18yr old me at living at home going to college, wants mk1 GTI.. Spends bursary on MK1 GTI (£600 btw) against Dad’s will! Car looked superb, no way my Dad could be mad, pull up at home thinking I could talk him round, turn off car, keys in my hand... car still happily running with no keys and just a light flickering on the dash! Fuck what have I done!

Its a really raw experience which i could tell you both massively enjoyed! 👍🏼 alot of younger people today would turn there nose up at any hatch back with less than 350bhp. But as you’ve demonstrated you dont need power to have fun! Look forward to the next one 😎

Should try get Peugeot 1.9 GTI and Clio Williams or even a Renault 5turbo you won’t be disappointed. Keep up the good work👍👍👍

Fair play to Lee for trying something classic rather than some dull modern soulless turbo woosh bang pop turd.
As for not knowing what Dellorto carbs are or Schrick cams, the guy can't be expected to know everything like nobody can. However if Lee wants to try a really fast atmo MK1 he's welcome to come try one of ours one day....we'll even give you an old school education on how real engines make power Lee rather than cramming in more boost!
Oh and you didn't need to worry about breaking the engine Lee...we run them to over 7000 with no issues and 9k still with some std parts....who needs vtec!

When you say fully rebuilt 2000ccc. I take it its a Abf interested to know how it's 200hp as to extract that from a abf it's a lot of work

Twin 40s are the carburettors they aren't a VW thing it's what people used to do before they started putting turbo's on in the 70/80/90s trumpets are what go on the end of the carbs and the air filters go on them

0 % that that golf has 196 HP , to get that even out of a 2.0 16v is pretty hard, and seeing its idling at about 750, so not a really big cams, sounds pretty stock if i am being honest, and the 16v head is pretty fkcin bad on the exhaust port flow. i am thinking this one has around 150 HP
