Growing up I never understood why the Columbia gorge looks so different from most the rest of the landscape. As you drive up river it gets more extreme. Giant cliffs and huge rocks just randomly placed.

I grew up in Soap Lake. I now, over 50 years later, live only five miles from there. When I was a kid, I would just wander around out on the prairie enjoying nature. As an adult, working on the coast I had so many people telling me there was nothing "over there" but rocks and grasshoppers. I knew better and told them they had no idea what they were talking about. I've always, even 'till now, marveled at the beautiful landscape here.

It's so cool to see two of my greatest heroes talking to each other. = D Randall's work on physical stuff and Graham's work with the ancient stories. Two sides of the same coin of Catastrophism. The two most important parts of the puzzle to unlock the history of humanity's existence on this incredible planet.

As a child of the sixties I grew up very near Wallula Gap and our group of misfits would make occasional nighttime pilgrimages to the hillside you see directly behind the twin sisters to which we fondly referred to as Mt. Mescallito, where we would enjoy the stars along with the nearby lights of the Tri-Cities.

Surprised that it doesn't show The Grand Coulee. It's the biggest formation in the Scablands. The Grand Coulee is what remains where the 900 ft waterfall was. It eroded the entire monocline out right back to the Columbia River. That's why the waterfall isn't there now.I spent a week there after much research, and Randall is right. You would need two weeks to try to see everything if that's even possible. Enjoy your work Randall. Cheers from Ontario Canada.

I loved Louis Lamour books as a youngster...
-don't laugh, although somewhat formulaic, they are rammed with accurate history, frontier knowledge, and common sense
I learned what arroyos were, mesas, saddles(geologically speaking) but never understood hanging valleys
