She's a punk for having that killer voice. She's a punk for caring for the marginalized. She's a punk for being brave to speak her mind. She's waay more punk than any guy who thinks he's being a punk rock geek
There is nothing punk about her crap butt rock emo band, or her woke nonsense or her. She knows nothing about punk rock she is literally playing an emo fest which is not punk rock what so ever. She is name dropping fugazi and minor threat that have nothing to do with emo. Then she goes on to say punk is not safe if you were different which is what it was all about. Glad to know she categorized me as a "person of color" I have no interest in sharing a space with her. She plays butt rock emo. NO idea why she keeps bringing up punk rock which she is clueless about.
LOL!!! It's not like she'd know. It's not like there was anybody gay in punk rock from jump, right? Gary Floyd and Darby Crash don't count, right? Only Hayley Williams counts and she's going to tell you how it was whether she was there or not and anybody who disagrees is just a crusty old white man on the internet, LOL!!!
And that’s one of many. Going back to living colour and before that. And she’s talking about EMO - one of THE most accepting scenes that’s ever existed. She’s just trying to virtue signal. And she’s lying.
You both are goofy. Literally EVERY band with poc, queer people an woman ALL will tell you the homophobic, racist an sexist things they went through an had to deal with throughout their scenes coming up. You think because punk was started by black people it wasn't racist? Almost every genre is started by black people an their was still segregation, Jim crow an discrimination. Yall love to rewrite history you never cared to learn about. That's like saying black people were allowed to perform everywhere because Elvis performed everywhere. Bringing up bad brains like THEY weren't homophobic and gzy people didn't get jumped st their shows. Don't remember the big boys and Macomb incident? The scene was always accepting to woman? REALLY? Did yall forget warped tour literally had to end because half the damn band roster was sexually assaulting women? Come on...yall REALLY THINK the scenes were more accepting in the 80s, 90s an 00s compared to today's? Actually delusional.
I don’t mind Paramore but not really a punk band but punk has included the type of people she’s talking about since it’s inception and before such as Death, proto punk, Darby Crash, Bad Brains, Exene Cervenka, Poly Styrene, The Slits, Wayne County to name just a few.
@Jared Completely agree and I saw Rancid when they weren’t much heard of, and I think there are clips on YT too, and they are talking about their concerts being for everybody.
What is she talking about? I have been listening to punk since the 90s and at that point it was one of the safest scenes around. It was bad in the 70s and 80s with the violence and hate more so.
There’s been plenty of women and people of color and queer in bands and audiences since the very beginning of punk. The scene has always been welcoming to people that were different in whatever ways. There are, and always will be, sexist and bigoted people everywhere but in the world of punk scenes those kind of shitty people have always been loudly, brutally called out and passionately criticized when they are revealed. Always been that way and that’s always been one of the best things about punk. What you’re hearing in this video is someone taking credit for things that were very solidly in place way way way before they “came on the scene”.
Thank you. She has done NOTHING for punk. She doesn't even play in a punk band. The fact that she seemingly things her emo band from 2005 somehow did anything for punk rock is just a demonstration of her ignorance.
Emo is nothing to do with punk rock, emo is a derivative of power pop. Emo is closer to music like Deep Blue Something and Fountains of Wayne. I love Fountains of Wayne but it's nothing to do with punk.
What was known as emo started as sub genre of hardcore. What is known as emo in the 2000s and up is nothing like that sub genre of hardcore sound wise or vibe.
Well, whatever the case, Hayley got the microphone and she's standing in the bully pulpit and now she's going to re-write history into whatever suits her.
Revolution Summer, 1985... not Revelation Summer... she has a wrong history in mind... Minor Threat/Fugazi same but different. Big Boys, The Dicks, MDC, Husker Du, Bad Brains, Beefeater... You can tell she was not there, if this is punk/hardcore she can keep it...
Queercore was literally a niche that dealt with homophobic people, fans an even other bands all the time...them existing isn't the point she's making, them not being as accepted as they scene is today in the space is the point.
I think she should talk about her “pretty privilege” and how she used those same “hoowyte mennn” she despises so much to climb to the top of the charts. The mean girls found her to be acceptable and the bros thought she was hot. If she didn’t meet those beauty standards, paramore is just another band and most of the doors that they waltzed through would have slammed shut in their faces. She is a benefactor of the same exclusionary standards she claims to dislike so much. Instead of being grateful she lashes out, it’s transparent projection because of her guilt. I love paramore but when hayley touches on these topics she’s insufferable.
Love how she claims she's " anti-establishment" and " punk " but only talks about woke points that's easy to do. She should come out and speak up against Israel since THAT is anti-establishment. What a pathetic woke virtue signaling loser. She's too worried about her bag being threatened by Zionists.
Hayley is such a treasure and role model. I always looked up to her and I always will
I love her so much

i still defend my comment about her punk views i am up for friendly debate

Descendents kind of started the "emo" genre.

Yes

Has no clue! Revelation Summer😂

This is some self-aggrandising nonsense.
she needs a lesson in punk lol
u need a lesson in life babe, go touch some grass
She's playing an emo concert and lecturing about punk rock which was around 10 years before she was born. She doesn't know squat about anything.
I love her but this speech is kinda corny
... wtf is she talking about
yep 👍
doesn't know history of punk rock punk rock has always been anti establishment. she is pop punk band
This is the corniest speech I’ve ever heard lol
Well she literally came up with it on the spot as she was only talking because they were having tech issues.

Half those bands were racist, sexist homophobic or all 3 😂
Clearly you weren't there either.
FFS she doesn't know Post Punk from emo, and she obviously has no clue about Pansy Division or queercore. SMFH

lol 😂
she mean Chad ;P
the interrupters are more punk then paramore and ska punk then Paramore
