If you haven’t done so already, wouldn’t mind a video on the fundamentals of a proper set up with each club. With irons especially, I find that if my hands are too close, my body can’t rotate all the way through the shot and it results in a push. Too far away, I get on my toes in the downswing and it results in a steep swing/shank due to standing up off balance
Setup is the entire preback swing routine. There are well defined facets of the setup, distance from ball, ball position, grip, foot angle, club lie. You should search for each of those and you will piece it together. There really is no video on "the setup" because its a fairly long topic i imagine but I am certain the facets i mention are what needs to be considered during your setup routine Id also add a waggle in there but to get the feel for the tempo before you swing, most people waggle for no real reason, but it is for tempo and star of back swing "testing" for the jindividual shot in front of you
spine angle is covered by distance from ball and club lie, youll see what i mean once you get a solid routine under your belt (spine angle will work out to be apx 35 degrees)
Really appreciated this video. Used at the range yesterday and already noticed a difference. Let's just see if I can do it in an actual round. Appreciate MSG!
@@brysondiddles4027 loft doesn't have anything to do with his issue. The shorter shaft, that does. But the difference is not much so you must be doing something different in the swing with your 3wd and 7wd - likely it's subconscious. But a small thing Frank could try is to move the ball back slightly, maybe half a ball. You don't want it as far forward as driver simply because of what this video is about. You need it further back from driver.
Thank you! That’s just what I need to see as I have been inconsistent with my maverick woods but when I make good contact the ball really goes straight and far.
The idea of using the tee in the heal of the grip as a check point to staying in posture worked very well for me with my fairway club. Do you have check points with the tee in the heal of the club to stay in posture for irons, driver and lob wedge?
Your lead on hitting fairway Woods covers an important need for development in my game. About one month ago I played golf at Dyker Beach 🏖 golf course by the Verrazzano Bridge in Brooklyn NYC (notice how I spelled Verrazzano with two zz and not one z like the highway signs read since 1964. The golf course uses I was told, construction sand which I hit out of and have gotten pretty good at it. There’s also no water hazard. That’s as long as it hasn’t rained hard . The fairways are a little too close to each other than I would like. If you do pull the ball off the tee box on #7 it can go over the fence and into traffic. Passerby’s sometimes can be coaxed to get the wayward ball. But then Dyker is a very forgiving course. I digress.) I mistakenly assumed that an Englishman was an Aussie. He said that was a bad mistake. So there’s friction between the UK and Australia 🇦🇺. During the round I said just before hitting my three wood “ Danger danger boys and girls. Frank is going to hit his three wood 🪵. I miss Steve Irwin. I am going to take extensive notes on your instructions and god willing I will start hitting my three wood about 220-230 with a nice draw. My shot went around 215 pin high just four yards off the green to the left. Thanks
You should provide the link to your other past fairway tips including the ballet sequence drill with the hip music which helped dropped the arms... that was classic... thanks for sharing
love the videos! I was wondering if anyone in the comments knew the simulator he uses in his studio? I know he’s got the sky track sponsor and has done something’s on the mevo+ but i don’t see either of them in the studio. Thanks!
Which Callaway 5W do you use? The one you said was "THE EASIEST CLUB YOU EVER HIT" I have a Cleveland halo 3H at 19°, same as the Rouge 5W. Wondering if I can get a lil more distance with the Rouge 5, OR should I look into the 4W.
I have a major issue hooking my 3 wood and 4h (a lot more than other clubs including driver), so I switched over to a 2i and 3i (which helped a lot for accuracy and helps to not over draw). Eventually I want to add the 3w back to the bag with more confidence. Any thoughts Mr Shortgame?
Go to the range and practice hitting a fade by simply not flipping your hands over at impact, or setting up with the face open. You could also get a lesson if the problem is unexplainable
What impact screen do you have over your sportscreen? The one I used always comes down very wrinkled. Yours doesn’t seem to have that problem. Love your content, never miss a video.
Matt about the Gear 🤔 “Whitey Tightey’s” just kidding ! Great Video on the 3 wood, fortunately I hit mine well, just a little to much fade sometimes, but manageable. I believe “take back” is everything with this club. Question though, we’re are your eyeballs on using this club ? A. In front like an Iron? B. Behind like a Driver?
Personally I always find it easier and more accurate to take some practice swings and see where the club is contacting the ground and use that to determine the relationship between ball and club. Then I pick my target, visualize the shot I want to make and make sure the tempo and speed of my practice swing will get me the results I want. Move that up to the ball and repeat. So many golfers just take a practice swing with no real purpose then make a swing that is nothing like the practice swing. Practice with purpose I say. Just my two cents.
I do the same thing. It tells me a lot about where the ball should be in my stance. But when I put a ball in front of the club, everything changes. My major problem is inconsistency in my swing.
@@danburch9989 Yep I get that. I am no PGA professional but I do know from experience, if you can change your mindset and focus on swinging the club versus hitting the ball, you will gain some consistency....I am sure of it.
I really could not hit a 3 wood off the deck until I got an “old “ F9 and reshafted it with a Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue regular flex 60 gram. I know golf is a head game but I went from not being able to hit a 3 wood to having it be my favorite club in the bag.
May have to dust off the 3 wood and try it now lol. I got away from it the lowest club I hit besides driver has been my 4 hybrid. So I usually have nothing past 210 once I'm off the tee.
Like others watching this channel, just wanted to thank you for the KISS method of teaching us. I'm as thick as poo but your teaching method is just great. I'm actually learning a lot so keep doing what you do best.
public opinion always states the 3 wood should be up in stance, but I have found that the only way I can hit it straight is to keep it center of stance ... is this bad, what could I be doing wrong ?
This video basically tells you how to shallow the club, but at least you show what’s too flat as opposed to what everybody preach the “to steep” angle. Thanks
I wonder if this is why I absolutely can't hit a hybrid. Every damn time I top the thing, it goes maybe 10 yards, and theres a big ball shaped hole in the turf about 3" in front of where the ball was hit from.
Also, don't try to flip your hands with a 3wd. If you aren't getting flat and out of alignment, you might be trying to flip to "help" the ball up. Remember, a balls vertical height is mostly due to backspin, not the loft itself. If you hit down on the 3wd, you will get the ball up if you generate the spin.
I’ve tried everything humanly possible and I just can’t hit a fairway wood from the fairway. It’s so frustrating to see other players boom their 3 wood so effortlessly up in the air and far and mines just trickles down the fairway 3 feet from the ground.
Why are the BEST instructions always the simplest. Mr SG you nailed it. Keep them coming.
This video really really helped me to pure my fairway woods and 3 wood! The tee alignment reshaped my swing. Finally! Thanks a million!!!

Absolutely. Hitting up on the turf is deadly. Top it every time
I'm looking for a retractable simulator screen like the one you have. Would you share the brand/model or any recommendations, please?
Really appreciated this video. Used at the range yesterday and already noticed a difference. Let's just see if I can do it in an actual round. Appreciate MSG!
It would be an honor and a lot of fun to golf with this guy. My game has improved tremendously!!
Good stuff, my issue is I consistently “ground” my 3 wood ie hit behind the ball. Rarely have issue with my 7 wood though
Cuz there’s more loft on your 7 wood and the shaft is shorter
@@brysondiddles4027 loft doesn't have anything to do with his issue. The shorter shaft, that does.

I do the same. Just sold my new 3wood because I can't hit it. Hit my 5 wood and 4 hybrid fine.
Thank you! That’s just what I need to see as I have been inconsistent with my maverick woods but when I make good contact the ball really goes straight and far.
Your other fairway swing video helped me the most so here I am taking in more tips!
Great video and now I have position in front of the ball and a swing plane that I can try to adjust...great work
Great video. Where do you recommend getting that retractable screen? Thx
The idea of using the tee in the heal of the grip as a check point to staying in posture worked very well for me with my fairway club. Do you have check points with the tee in the heal of the club to stay in posture for irons, driver and lob wedge?
Great advice! Thanks so much. Practice...Practice...Practice!
Hey Matt! I actually play off the tee with my 3wood. Just can't seem to get a good swing on my driver. The 3wood is working great for the time being.

I played yesterday for the first time in 2 months and had this exact problem for a few holes. Glad to see it brought to attention
Liked a lot how you with tee enlighted the swing movement needed✌️. Thank you sir sharing your knowledge.
HiMatt, Played on Sunday and I did struggle a little with my 3 wood. Shots stayed low with distance but not alot of carry
Your video delivery has really improved in the last year or so. Way to keep it interesting without being annoying.
I very seldom hit my 3 wood because I have trouble with it can't wait to give this a shot thanks

It's from Par to Pro.
great video! out of curiosity what impact screen and automatic screen mount you using?
nevermind found it on your other vid. awesome setup. subbed
Can you tell me about your retractable impact screen setup?
Super helpful tip - can still full swing - and an easy thing to identify and key on - thank you
I like this tip and can't wait to try it.
Where did you get remote screen and projector from?
Cheers to you brother and all your success! It’s been fun to watch! Thank you!
Matt, if you were using a 3 or 5 wood off the tee, would you still hit down on the ball or would you hit it more like a driver?
I would like to know too.
Good lesson on the mechanics of hitting fairway clubs. Thank you.

Several years ago, I heard Lee Trevino say the same thing. Wise information from one of the best fairway wood hitters. George in Montana
Quick gear question. What shoes are those? The Jordan MA2?
Yes MA2
You always have great advice! Thanks
Nice drill! So not just the Daddy of the short game.
P.s my pitching has improved since taking a second look at your advice on pitching and chipping.
Great tip. However, what would you recommend to those of us who use the Accros sensors? There is no place for the tee.
Try an upside down tee with a bit of blu-tack
They make a laser pointer that you can use instead of the tee. My memory isn't what it used to be but I think it came with a Butch Harmon video.
