Yes, I liked it. Especially because I was curious about some of the things showed here. Nice edit by the way. No words needed, because the edit is simple and elegant.
Didn't even notice, the shipyard that we have now where you buy a ship tells you more about speed, cargo, modules, hangars etc In odyssey when you purchase a ship they removed those??
I very much doubt that UI designers would be designing gameplay mechanics. As it goes, there seem to be a reasonable amount of mechanics being added in Odyssey.
Small improvements in the graphics here and there. Settlements are really well made. UIs are completely inconsistent and all over the place. The galaxy map must have been designed by an intern who never played the game.
Thanks for letting me make a video for your channel. I had a lot of fun editing and recording this! If you want to see a comparison of the station interiors that I made go here: ruclips.net/video/kFCh-qyzqN0/видео.html
One request for the future: keep the comparisons on the same side. When you have a static comparison, you have current on the left, alpha on the right. When you do a sliding transition, you have alpha on the left, current on the right.
Very much impressed by the work that went into this video. Massive compliments! I generally am of the opinion that the lighting is much too dark in the new Odyssey, rendering so much almost pitch black that one might as well remove the textures since they are invisible unless in the light. Even shadows on day time planets with an atmosphere are pitch black and are missing any sort of atmospheric scattering. Ask any astronaut that’s been to space. They will describe to you the shear brightness of the galaxy and the countless stars visible. We’ve got even darker “skybox” now than we already had in Horizons. Fingers crossed this gets at least a black point adjustment so blacks don’t get so crunched.
Please, if you do comparisons, make sure the same things are always on the same sides, it was very confusing when it gets switched up, in the beginning.. Thank you. Cool video! Thank you!
My feelings are mixed on this one, it's not all bad but I feel like the design team spoke with the art team and chose to say "more detail, less readability" which is a shame. TLDR: I like it.. somewhat. I like to be able to see what I'm supposed to see. Station light intensity: Light is a good thing + The hangers have gotten a nice makeover with the lights improving the ability to really see the geometric designs within the hangar. - It's not too bad but the intensity makes it harder to know if you're at the front unless you have played for a while, the "ads" at the front of the mailslot are there to guide players in. Second, the Holographic landing displays are quite a bit dimmer than expected, which makes it hard to glance around the inside and find your parking spot without the use of the compass. Hyperspace Jump: Nice, although + The entrance into hyperspace has gotten a massive improvement in looks as the abrupt change between loading and game has been minimized. - The jump between loading to gameplay is even more visible because of the smooth transition between game to load. Shields: Pretty, but impractical + The detail in the ripples of energy that makes the shield are incredibly pretty. - The shields are no longer a hit indicator for when you hit the ship, and you will therefore have to go by the sounds when it comes to hits. Starport Services - Base: A large change, but necessarily unwelcome + The new window strips most unneeded information while keeping the most important. - I don't expect that it will go over smoothly with the ones who have developed muscle memory within that screen. CG, Board, Cartographics, Adv. Maintenance: Cleanup and split-up + The screen has been cleaned up, which it very much needed. Compartmentalization allows the screen to be more accessible. - Compartmentalization is a dangerous tool, as it takes small things and spreads them out, making click-rate skyrocket and time-effectiveness fall. Contacts: Why? - All that was done was to put the window in a smaller one, which doesn't make sense to me unless you wanted to rehaul "everything" to make sure that no vestige of the old UI was left. Buy / Manage ships: Redesign + Complete change-up from the old one where you now see the ship instead of a wireframe. This should help new players find ships they like faster. - Doesn't fit the rest of the UI. Some colors carry over but the design language is completely different from the rest. Outfitting: More clicks is not more better + Splitting it into 3 categories has made the outfitting of ships a bit more intuitive, the different colors allowing you to easier see what you need to go for. Storage has been massively improved as it is now easier to find the piece you are looking for. - Splitting it up like it is done makes it slower to go from a stock ship to a kitted one unless you use outside resources. Holo-me: Confusing - This is where I would expect everything to do with the pilot would be stored, instead, it is a kitted down version of the old screen for pilot's license photos. System panel: Not much to add + They added the new reputation collections as expected. Roles panel: Follow-up on Holo-me - This is where I would expect there would be everything about the vehicle and nothing more. Instead, they pushed the loadout of the pilot here as well, making it more confusing to look at. System- & Galaxy-map: Modernized and uncluttered + The maps are cleaner than they were before, with a much better idea about what each planet is from said screen.
@@FlecheDeFer For a newb the old brightness for the landing bay numbers is important until one gets used to using the radar for "in station" nav. I think they should have not dulled that lighting so much - it's supposed to be a hologram to help people find there bay after all.
Excellent video. Good comparisons are surprisingly hard to find. A little nitpick though. It would've been nice to see how shields going down/back up/SCBs look in Odyssey, if there's any change.
Great video! As all changes in gfx are a matter of personal taste and therefore debatable, I pretty much like the new hyperspace jump effect. I kinda looks like the warp tunnel effect in the last Star Trek movies (Kelvin timeline).
I didn't think the old ui was a problem to use or less functional. I hate the carrier ui and I saw it is making its way into other areas of elite too, damn.
Great video, as always. Thanks! The music, at one point, got a little melancholy. But it picked up from there. LOL I'm fairly new to the game, and appreciate all of your videos. Is it just me though, or does the 'Holo-Me' system make everyone look weird? I rarely see an avatar that looks like just about any human being I've ever encountered.
Excellent video. I’ve actually been switching between the two games to check the differences so this saves me a lot of time lol. I like the new lighting system overall. However, I do prefer planetary settlement lighting in 3.3 over odyssey. The street lights/outdoor lights just seem too dim in odyssey. The new Galmap is awful and I don’t see a point to the new station services menu. To me it just seems that they changed things around without any additional benefits. As the old saying goes, if it isn’t broke then don’t fix it.
I personally like the UI changes. I always like how the FC UI looks like and now we are getting something similar for the rest of UI elements. Also the shipyard screen is good because You finally see what are You buying, not only hologram of it 😅
Looks good, though I really hope they'll give the Main Menus an overhaul too, so there's something pleasant to look at the other half of the time while relog farming.
Some of these changes seem to be appearing outside the Alpha but seem account specific. I guess there are probably more...
I actually like most, if not all, the graphical changes in Odyssey, at least without having used them yet. The landing pads in the stations look a bit darker and pad numbers lighter which ain't so good. I look forward to the planetary graphics update, I just hope my old 1050ti will handle it!

I do have a minor complaint about the mission board from a console perspective. It's going to take longer to navigate now. Earlier, you could go from anywhere in a mission list back to faction with one left dpad click, but now you'll have to go all the way back up the list to beck to the factions. My poor dpad.
Many native English speakers have terrible spelling unfortunately. In the UK they started to use a "system" for English called 'phonics' where you spell things the way you 'think' the word sounds when you say it. Even official documents are being produced with terrible spelling and layouts now !
Inside the station you can hardly see the bay number in Odyssey. That is terrible for new players - I remember "finding the bay" is one of the hard bits when learning. I love the change in layout for stored modules.
I think people just want more sandbox utilities! Like maybe some flag limpets to help map your mining route or slf with mining lasers for them big ships
I'm worried about my PC being able to handle this. It surely cannot in the alpha. So yeah, I'm going to hope for an updated odyssey GFX settings video.
Can't say I am a fan of the new station UI, feels very oversimplified and confusing, I understand they want to make fcs and stations more consistent but why they did it this way around is beyond me.. It would be nice if they left some option in the settings to switch between "Classic" and "Modern" but that will never happen.
I Think the Main Page of the Starpoint Service is better, but every other change in the menus is just odd and don't fit very well,. In addition to that, the menus show less information in nearly every segment. I don't know about the menus... hope they change some of them
I find the new outfitting screen kinda nonintuitive as it feels like we’ve gone back to the season 1 screen where it’s just a big collection of items that you select from to fit to your ship, and not the well-organised and categorised system from Horizons.
So far the interface is the only major change for me. The graphics over all have not really been updated. It looks like a pre 2016 game to me. Not a home run.
I feel it's time they added a real manual / set of documentation that covered the use of things, rather than some half-arsed "you can buy this" with no information on how to actually use it...
If Frointier does not return BGS gameplay, this will fail. It is not just lighting, they have reworked most of the ship textures on the exterior and the interior as it seems. Really good. Might be a hint for ship-legs coming too.
The UI is still poor. Animation of changing modules still takes a lot of time. Even if you need this animation for immersion, it can be done after the player quickly throws a fit. The same goes for fit presets.

This new UI makes me sad. They totally ruined the UX. Don't know why they have a Windows fetish and trying to force us to use tiles, windows and icons and granting us less information than before. You can argue like: ofc but now we can see the progression of the factions easily. Well, you get a message from them every time you improve the rank, you can even memorize your standing. Usually it doesn't even matter at all because to archive allied status it's enough to just complete a few quests. Not to speak about Outfitting and Galaxy map, they are utter garbage. For me, even the galaxy map would cause less frustration than the new starport services/mission that we all now how broken is. The new rank design looks horrible too, but that can be fixed by removing the glowing borders. Praying to Frontier to revert these changes.
I would say that easily half those changes are much worse than present formats. Example - The mission tables and such, awful and even worse for being user friendly.
Sorry but the UI for Odyssey is garbage. Someone honestly needs to be fired. Too much breaking up the menu into too many sections, too many vague symbols, and too many sub-menus. The Holo-Me and ship management screens are a perfect example of how NOT to do a menu screen. That horrendous blue-background gives a strong "amateur" vibe. You had a perfectly good Holo-me screen where your CMDR is standing in the background they are in, why scrap that for a terrible looking greenscreen? And lighting definitely got borked. Too much dark contrast and "flattened" lighting which has killed the bloom/flare of lighting.
One thing that needs to be fixed in Odyssey is the intensity of the landing pad numbers . whenever you go into a station you can barely see them
If that's the case we'll be relying on the compass a lot more.
Absolutely agree. 3k+ years... But we still need to seek landing pad by our own eyes. It so barbarian...)

Example - The mission tables and such, awful and even worse for being user friendly.
yh the mission board, system and galaxy map don't really need a change imo
