The Gold Watch chapter is significant because Butch ended up escaping what was effectively a P.O.W. camp, then going to war to save a higher-ranking soldier. It mirrors the conversation Captain Koontz had with him as a child (including things going in a**es 😂). The Captain referred to Hanoi P.O.W. camp as a "pit of hell". Both Butch and Marcellus found themselves underground, in a basement of t*rt*re. There's even the tiny cage where Maynard and Zed kept "The G*mp" locked up, which those camps were known for. Butch even used a legitimate weapon of war: the Samuri sword. Butch earned his watch. 😊
I wish I could see a video of my face watching this in the theater when it was released. From the opening diner scene and ripping into the opening credits, you could feel that this was going to be something special. Then it never let up, ever erred from perfection in writing, filming, and performances. By the end it had taken you on a journey, several journeys. It’s one of the best films, ever. And repeat viewings make it ever deeper and richer. I always pull something new out of it.
No one ever mentions the Kangaroo he always keeps his watch on it. They mention it at the motel, when he gets home there it is “on the little Kangaroo”. When he’s driving away the song “Flowers on the Wall” is on the radio and he’s singing the line. “and watching Captain Kangaroo” before he gets to the stoplight. Great reaction.
Tarantino is a master of film making. The dialog drives his movies and he is brilliant at writing it. Love this movie and your reaction. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 5 thumbs up! 😅😅😅😅
@@tony020480 I don't count Jackie Brown as QT's masterpiece because the story was written by Elmore Leonard from the novel Rum Punch. QT basically changed several character's race from white to african-american, added a few pop culture QT bars, removed the part about the neo-nazi gangsters, and overall tightened up and whittled down the plot to it's bare bones form. It was adequately shot by the DP/Cinematographer but I prefer the DP/Cinematographer of Pulp Fiction and even more so I prefer the DP Quentin stole from Oliver Stone after publicly panning Stone's film of QT's script Mickey & Mallory which ultimately was rewritten multiple times by Stone and renamed Natural Born Killers(I always think It's absolutely despicable of QT that he sht all over Stone's film when I hold it to be the single greatest film of it's particular decade. Apropos, timely, culturally tuned-in, and most importantly shocking, violent, and transgressive. I think it's mighty odd that QT proclaimed that he despised NBK and then went on to five finger discount Stone's DP who was used to sh00t NBK for QT's two part film which originally was one very long single film, KIll Bill, because if you really observe the techniques Stone's and subsequently QT's Kill Bill DP utilized for the two movies there are MYRIADS of examples of Kill Bill cribbing techniques and aesthetics and outright in-camera effects shots and especially both film's approach regarding film set lighting, with the DP choosing to shower down diffuse extremely bright xenon light pots down from overhead so that it creates multitudes of shadows and highlights upon the film's actors and actresses while on a traditional old hollywood sound stage film set). #Thoughts? #PulpFIctionIsHisMasterpieceURWrongMyGuy!
So the Pilot Mia(Uma Thurman) was in, in this movie after a few twists and turns and development became Kill Bill... So now that you've watched this, you should watch Kill Bill 1 & 2.
Mia snorted the heroin thinking it was cocaine, that´s the detoning to had the overdose (heroin can be snorted as well, but the most common way it´s like Vincent did, using a needle. Also Mia was quite drugged in that moment). And Vincent goes a lot to the bath, due to he´s an heroin addict, and that provokes you, sometimes, constipation. Even the shot to Marvin´s face, it´s due to heroin, that also provokes you spasms (in this case pulling the trigger).
Also you wouldn't normally be given a baggie of heroin but the drug dealer didn't have any balloons left. So it is normal to see a baggie of white powder and assume it is cocaine.
they took off their shoes because the the dance music’s from also is known for the school “sock hop” dances. the schools did Sock Hops especially during basketball season because the school dances were held in gymnasiums snd they didn’t want the shoes to scuff the gymnasium floors
Tarantino's entire catalog is a must watch. His first big break was the script for "True Romance", directed by Tony Scott. It's a brilliantly offbeat crime thriller loaded with big stars and full of Tarantino's trademark dialogue and situational craziness.
Vincent is completely incompetent. Jules wasn't sure how many young men would be in the apartment in addition to Marvin but Vincent assumed no one was in the bathroom and didn't check.
if you haven't seen Death Proof, I highly suggest that film as well. All of the Tarantino films are really good, the other big ones are Django and Inglorious Basterds.
You should watch the movies Tarantino directed, in release order, so you can follow his development. He's just a young kid when he makes Reservoir Dogs and a grizzled veteran by the time he makes Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Watching them in random order is a wasted opportunity
Great reaction Carol. Such a pleasure to watch you experience this great movie for the first time. I don't think I've ever seen you so enjoy a film so much, you were totally invested throughout. Very quick on the uptake throughout. Plus a good appreciation of the dialogue, shocking violence and the humour. 👏
It was a twist contest they danced in - mid-late '50's there was a song by Chubby Checker and a fad that made "The Twist" a big deal. This was a '50's diner.
As mentioned, if you like this you will love Inglourious Basterds! Yes, the mixed timeline keeps you wondering, but Tarantino weaves everything back together perfectly. Fun to watch, and see you understood and caught pretty much everything as it all came together.
About the dialog having some racial slurs in it, The story is set in the early 90's and written in a style that is supposed to simulate the natural conversational languages and slang used during that time so obviously the dialog wouldn't be as PC as a natural conversation would be these days but it definately fits that era very accurately. Thats why movies made in the 80's and 90's were so good,... No ideals thrown in regardless of the story just the story and setting was the only thing that mattered. All of Tarrantino's movies are fantastic as well as Kevin Smith movies ^_^
The Jackrabbit Slims restaurant has a '50s aesthetic. 1950's high school dances were held in high school gymnasiums with polished hardwood floors. No one would go to a dance in sneakers, they would go in dress shoes; but dress shoes are forbidden on gym floors because the shoes would scuff the surface. So, they would take off their dress shoes and dance in their socks (i.e., "a "sock hop.")
Being non-chalant about slurs. If gangsters kill each other without a second thought I can’t imagine politeness is at the top of their list of concerns.
One of my all time favs. When I saw you were going to watch it I knew I had to come and see it through your eyes... LOL Glad you didn't have any problem with the timeline of the film. The caliber of the actors keeps that from being a problem. If the cast was crappy, they wouldn't be able to pull off the dialogue without it sounding like they were reading from the script. Everyone in Pulp pulled it off.
