Try using the steel cores from old windshield wipers next time, they sound good and are easy to reshape with pliers, so you can have rounded contact points for more comfortable plucking
My dad made me one in the late 1960's but it disappeared. His was not nearly as nicely made as this one but to me it was priceless. Thank you for posting.
