Thanks for the video. Of course, I broke the plastic clip that fits on the rod end. My local auto store had a Dorman blister pack with a small assortment of door latch rod clips for about $5.00. Two of them were the right fit for this application.
Here's a tip: Install the clip into the lock mechanism first then slip it onto the rod end.

Incredibly helpful video! I did need to watch it a few times before attempting to fix my own trunk, but finally got up the nerve and got it fixed! I just ordered the part off the internet for $30. It did take e a little longer than your video showed, but I was quite pleased with my accomplishment and the amount of money I believe I saved! Thanks!

To save anyone some time putting on that plastic clip, follow the rod to the other end where you can unhinge it from the white plastic piece. Once you take that end off, you can fish the rod out where you can put the purple piece on and then install the white part back on. Took me 2 seconds

Very helpful video. As an added suggestion though, unclip the rod that goes to the key latch mechanism over on the right side of the trunk and pull the latch mechanism over to the left and down a bit to make it easier to unclip and re-clip at the latch mechanism itself. Took all of 15 minutes to replace. Thanks!

One trick, when install the new part you can pull the whole metal stick which controls by keys out and clip the latch and then put it back. It's easier to install and you won't have problem when using your key to pen trunk.

My 2000 Honda Civic latch is faulty, i look online for the right one that will fit but they have latches that will fit 96-00 year models, but when i look at the 01-05 year model latches they look more similar to the one i took off my civic? But mines an 00? What latch do i get the 96-00 latches that dont look like the right fit or the 01-05 latch that looks more similar??

Can that small plastic clip be purchased separately? What is it's part number? Great video!

Awesome video. Does anything need to be aligned for the deck lid to latch? I need to replace mine, and I want to make sure I get it right. (I'm used to working on older GM cars, and trucks).

There isn't any alignment but if the trunk does not latch after replacing the new assembly look at the hook mounted to the body you can loosen and move that up or down to accommodate the new latch. That happen to ours.

I installed it. Closed my trunk now I can't get my trunk open. Had to get inside the trunk to use the release to open it. What am I doing wrong? When I use the trunk release I can't hear it working. My little blue line with the bulb on the end does not seem long enough. Can it be adjusted?

my uncle has the right back door latch not working by remote. is this a common problem in Honda and whats the probable cause?

    • @feralstreamer3761

The piece of plastic that makes contact with the metal at the base to initiate the latch causes wear on the plastic due to usage.

@@kx-_-21 I have a video on it. You have to unlatch it from the right side then run the wire down. Attach it to the clip and then re attach it on the right again 👍

How do you unhook the bar from the plastic? It doesn’t look like it pops out easy.
