On Shinji strangling Asuka:
The reason I did not explain in the video why Shinji strangled Asuka is because it is very much a personal interpretation.
The most "official" explanation is from the Bandai Evangelion Movie Series 2 Trading Card, which says,
"Shinji renounced the world where all hearts had melted into one and accepted each other unconditionally. His desire... to live with 'others' - other hearts that would sometimes reject him, even deny him. That is why the first thing he did after coming to his senses was to place his hands around Asuka's neck. To feel the existence of an 'other'. To confirm (make sure of) rejection and denial."
This is my personal theory, which incorporates the "official" theory:
Rei explains that giving back the AT fields and thus everyone's ability to be a human will also give people back fear --- fear of those who might hurt us. When the scene opens, Shinji reacts on the fears shown in the previous strangling scene with Asuka during Instrumentality. Asuka, at the time, only represented the way humans hurt and reject others. So to confirm if Asuka was still the same rejecting, hurtful person she was in Instrumentality (the kitchen scene), Shinji picks up where he left off and begins to strangle her once more. But her response to his attack is a caress, fulfilling Kaworu's promise that the hope of love also remains. This caress reminds Shinji of the caress from his mother (right before he rises from the LCL), when one of her last lines to him was that "You can find the chance to achieve happiness anywhere". He had replied that "he didn't know where to find happiness..." He now knows where his chance for happiness lies, and he nearly strangled her to death. He breaks down...
For another GREAT theory on why Shinji strangled Asuka, (I REALLY think this guy solved it!): forum.evageeks....
Lastly, the most official answer we have on why Asuka says "How disgusting", was revealed in a 2005 interview with Asuka's voice actress, Yuko Miyamura. Miyamura was not voicing the original line ("I'd never want to be killed by you of all men, absolutely not!") in the way Hideaki Anno wanted it expressed. When Miyamura asked Anno for more guidance, Anno asked her, "Miyamura, just imagine you are sleeping in your bed and a stranger sneaks into your room. He can rape you anytime as you are asleep but he doesn't. Instead, he masturbates looking at you, when you wake up and know what he did to you. What do you think you would say?"
So Miyamura told him that she thought "Disgusting". Anno agreed and the final line was changed.
During the Instrumentality scene, Asuka was able to look into Shinji's mind among others and it was then that she discovered he had masturbated to her in her hospital room. In the final scene, once Instrumentality had ended, she had formed again, and I'm sure disgust was among many other feelings on her mind at the sight of him.
FINAL NOTE: I forgot to mention the Dead Sea Scrolls, which Seele had in possession. These scrolls, written by the First Ancestral Race, showed them how to initiate Second and Third Impact, and eventually the Human Instrumentality Project. It's a somewhat minor detail, but its important to understand that Second Impact was PLANNED by Seele according to these Scrolls. It was only seen as an accident by the public.

Evangelion Analysis Project
>One week ago
holy shit you're not dead
I thought this channel was inactive for sure, glad to see you guys are actually still around!
***** Will do :) Sorry about the wait.
Evangelion Analysis Project are the angels send by the ancestral race to wipe out humanity (if thats even the point for their attacks) or did they decide for their own? if not, why didn´t the ancestors send another lilith and another adam to earth to cause a huge impact? i mean, those ancestor-guys where the ones sending eggs of lilths and adams into space to bring life to other planets, so they should be able to do so.
HeindoofLP Nah man, the FAR just made the seeds of life to spread life around, they had no knowledge of mankind as far as we know. With the information at hand, it appears to suggest the FAR no longer exist, having died out for some unknown reason.
The attacks by the angels were from specifically Adam's angels, as technically all life we get to see in the series is angelic in nature (we ourselves are angels of Lilith's brood). They attacked because a long time ago, Earth was theirs, but Lilith accidentally landed on Adam's planet. Because this is a no-go as far as seed of life programming is concerned, Lilith's security device, the Lance of Longinus, shut down Adam and his angel brood, allowing Lilith-based angels to proliferate on Earth.
After a while, a human touched Adam, woke it up, Adam started 2nd impact, and the rest of Adam's angels began reactivating, with the intention of getting Earth back from the Lilith-based angels, one way or another, thus starting the events of the show.
TYRANTARES well summarized :)

I wont go as far as to call the show dogshit like he did, but it DEFINITELY suffers from fedora-tipping '2deep4u' storytelling that leaves so much information out that there ends up being virtually no real context to scenes, making it the anime equivalent of flashy cgi shaky cam Michael bay shit.
Throwing orchestra music on a still image for 5 minutes or rapidly flashing a bunch of images while a teenager screams isnt story telling.
@@shadow7988 First its not pretentious. The anime was not about the mechas it was about the chacacter. It really messed with me in ep 26 when it showed a reality where everything was basically ok
that’s the ending inside shinjis mind when he comes to terms with himself after everything that’s happened, while EoE is the ending that happens in real life
Yep, basically that was Shinji's "dream" but the show itself lays out dreams are for escaping harsh reality which is in fact not so pretty.
@@SeeASquaRE I'm a Netflix watcher but based on what I've seen/read isn't episode 25 & 26 meant to be Shinji's reasoning for why he decides to reject instrumentality? Well, based on EoE being incorporated into the mix.
Episode 25 and 26 is shinji accepting instrumentality and the end of evangellion is him rejecting it and deciding to face the reality of the third impact

If all this or at least half of the things were explained in the anime. then I could give it more praise but the story is all over the place. It doesn't know how to be vague in its hidden storytelling. I don't know if I can compare anime to a video game but if this game could be more like dark souls and have more understandable clues, I probably could call it a masterpiece.
this anime made me realize how dumb and how bad i am at understanding things

+Aneesa Delpachitra don't get me wrong I enjoyed the series. And every reason I've heard for calling this show a masterpiece has been justified in my opinion. I just don't think the show was long enough to fit such an expansive story.

"Yes, I know you miss your dead wife very much, but trying to bring her back from the dead will never end well" should be an anime trope. (If it isn't one already).
Fma but instead of wife its mom
Such a trope that even a Batman villain follows it
In Shaman King, Faust 8 tried to bring his wife back from death.
Spider man into the spider verse - kingpin tries to bring back his wife and son
The exact motivation of Wenwu from Shang chi
I think to a degree the members of Seele were just afraid to die.
When the one Seele guy turns to LCL you can see that he was already only a Cyborg.
They hoped to achieve immortality.
Omg so true
Finally a talk nobody talking about
I was wondering about that Cable looking guy
Yeah, this makes sense.
For those of you mindfucked, the point of evangelion isnt about the origin and backstory of the earth. Up until the final stretch of EoE, Shinji has no involvement with this adam and lilith plot whatsoever. The real story is about dealing with personal anxieties, fears, and the basis of human interaction. Its about the characters finding their own ways to escape reality, and it is only at the end where Shinjis decision to either escape reality or embrace it influences the plot and world as a whole. So if theres anything you should get out of watching evangelion, it shouldnt be about this confusing alien shit, but more so how you handle your biggest fears and choose to embrace all the emotions of reality rather than the fake emotions in escapism.
THANK YOU
I guess it's kinda about both. I mean one could say lord of the rings is a story about friendship and loyalty, about what "the small man" can achieve with nothing but his will, about not everybody needing to be a crazy ass special person and all. But you were wrong if you would deduce from that, that it's not also a story bout some dude throwing a ring in some other dudes volcano to safe the world.
I mean considering 90% of the show is the mechs and the buildup to all the alien origin backstory stuff and 10% of it most of which came at the very end of the anime and first movie it’s not crazy to think people care more about the story of the world over a story about people dealing with their various mental states, that was also portrayed kinda poorly it was just rapidly getting assaulted by pictures of their fears while they screamed and said the same things over and over again for minutes at a time. I liked Eva but it definitely suffers from trying to be infinitely deeper than it is, adding like an extra 5 minutes anywhere in the anime or movie to explain things they left out intentionally to be that way could’ve easily improved the storytelling instead of things just happening with no explanation.
Lol it's not that deep. Nge is just overrated. It's assumed to be genius because there's a lot of abstract, meaningless concepts dumped into a one-dimensional show by a literally depressed creator, and wannabe avant-garde enthusiasts love flexing their idiot muscles to explain to everyone just how profound the anime is
@@pffa9675I think ur over exaggerating it, it’s just a mech anime with themes of not being a pussy

King crimson is actually pretty simple its just bad translations that make him seem complicated
King Crimson is a video editing software. He can preview what's to come and cut out things. If an action is cut out, the video will continue to play but the effect of what has happened in the time that was cut will cease to exist.
Imagine getting shot, but King Crimson cutting out the part of the bullet entering and leaving your body. When that happens, the bullet would look like it passed straight through you and keep on going until it hits something else.

To everyone complaing "why isn't this answered in the show", it's because the main focus of the story are the characters and their tragedy...NOT THE ALIENS!
You can have both. Don't make excuses for it. scheduling issues. One episode having to be scrapped and such, probably led to most of this being left on the cutting floor. Destiny shouldn't get away with having its lore outside the game, neither should Eva
Everything but the existence of an ancestrial race, which I think this guy just pulled out of his ass, was mentioned in the show. SEELE talks about how humans come from Lilith and angels come from Adam and the egg stuff in Kaworus episode and the truth of 2nd impact was covered when they show the past of Gendo/Fuyutski/Misato/Ritsuko etc
true. Tho the ancestral race is in fact canon, Just only mention in media outside the original work, which is a big issue. Seele needed expanding on, why personally they wished for instrumentality. Kaworu also need more than one episode for the twist of him being a angel to have any impact
Yeah Kaworu was weak as was was Shinji caring about his death so much. He probably needed like 5 episodes to matter to the audience. SEELE always made me thinkof antisemitic conspiracy theories, because a lot of them have hooked noses and tell me the the human instrumentality project doesn't sound like some sort of post marxist plot...
Imagine if like he helped take out some Angels in order to seem less untrust worthy, with the eva pilots. man then the twist would have had wight and been a big deal

One thing I still don’t get is why Shinji’s father neglected him
@@zayk7095 he never succeed to open to anyone else other than his wife. Just like Shinji, he hated himself so much that he thought he was not worthy of love. Therefore, he was a jerk to everyone, because he did not want people to like him. He could not love anyone or accept anyone because he could not love himself. Being aware of that, he pushed Shinji away to avoid making him suffer, but also because he was scared of Shinji who was capable of love.
What is interesting is that Shinji who was capable of love (thanks to his mother) then became very close and awful to anyone because he started to be just like his father. His hate for his father and his abandonment issues made him become a copy of him.
However, Shinji who became aware of that still choose to live and try to learn to love, to accept himself, to work through depression and let other people love him (which can be understood by the end of the anime and the end of the movie where he stops strangling Asuka).
We could also argue that when his father died, he was the only one who suffered (unlike other people who were hugged by the people they love) because he was the only one who was never able to love someone, not once.
Please don’t be mad at me if I was wrong on anything and I would really love to know everyone’s opinions on that! Also one other question that I have is: since all humans have the capacity to separate from the LCL when they have the will to live, could the other characters still be back and alive (just later than asuka since her will is stronger..)? This would mean that the end of the anime which occurs in Shinji’s mind could possibly happen irl, just a little bit more ugly since they are still vulnerable humans who have to learn to let other people in.
Thanks for your future answers!!!

Thanks, man! The fun part of this anime is putting pieces togheter and solving the puzzle, you did it!
Man its disappointing that he hasn’t posted in 7 years, hope hes doing well
First minute and a half or so: "Okay, I'm following you so far..."
Rest of the video: "Uh, what...?"
My interpretation is that Gendo’s Human Instrumentality did not come out of the blue after “losing” Yui, rather it was all part of their original plan. After proving that a human soul could be contained in an lilith-based Eva (although probably the original plan was to get in and out of the Eva at will, maybe that was a “mistake” from Gendo and Yui), the HIP was announced and Gehirn turned to NERV. So back before the second impact, SEELE concluded with the prophecy (dead sea scrolls) that Adam-based Angels will come to try take over Earth and wipe humans, but if they managed to control their power and protect against them, they could avoid a Angels claiming earth and wiping Lilith-based beings through anti AT fields. Once this was achieved, SEELE would start the third impact (instead of alternatively, continuing life as always after destroying all Adam beings), and set their souls into Eva-01, becoming a God-like being. And since Yui was part of SEELE’s team, she got access to this information and planned another alternative outcome, one where Gendo, Shinji and she would end up in that Eva-01. For me its clear from Fuyutsuki’s flashback scenes, discussing why Yui had to be the experiment subject and talking about how that was the future for Shinji. Yui was the brilliant one, and Gendo changes his last name I guess because it probably was her idea to this “alternative” plan, screwing Seele’s just because Yui and co. were the ones actually doing all of the science, and didn’t want humanity to be wipe just for these old guys to become a god-like being. In a way, Gendo’s ambition crossed Yui’s acknowledgment of SEELE’s plan, and decided to detour it for the benefit of their future and child. I’m pretty sure the plan was to take all lilith-based beings into the Eva01 and be like the Noe Ark symbolism. I think one of the stuff that wasn’t plan was Yui getting absorbed for ever in eva01, and that made Gendo more ruthless and just strive for reuniting himself with Yui, rather than worrying for Shinji. :)
I wish to know what happens after The End Of Evangelion..
That was never specified, since the final scene was intentionally left to interpretation.
Seppuku%Carnival Apparently they made spinoffs called 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 but I’ve never seen them so idk what exactly happens
@@donkeldoothedapperdog They're remakes.
@ColdColor u sure?
well they made the rebuilds which i am currently watching and while the first one might seem like a remake, they all seem to point that they are reliving the events but everything goes down differently starting with 2.0
When I first saw this as a kid back in 2007 or 9 I was completely Traumatized just by watching the entire neon Genesis franchise.
I just noticed something wrong. If Yui was planning to merge with Eva unit 1 doesn't that make her the fucking worst mother on Earth? She willingly abandoned and traumatized her son for some stupid fucking science experiment for her own personal goals, she indirectly caused her son to be abandoned by her asshole husband because of this.
Also Shinji is seriously right when he says hes fucked up, he built an obsession (love?) over a clone of his mother and his father willingly let this happen. Can their just be a version of evangelion where Gendo dies horribly, I seriously want to see that.
I dont think he got a weird obsession with Rei tbh. They just really cared about each other and I think shinji was interested in her because she wasn't like other people as well. And because gendo gave her attention and not him
Abbandoneer yeah, both his parents were crap.
But, if I remember correctly without her sacrifice Eva 01 wouldn't work and thus kinda screw the world.
LIES!
No one could possibly explain Evangelion in only 7 minutes!
not to mention this video is 7 minutes and 35 seconds!
Yep!, it was 7minutes 35second
HOLY SHIT NOT 7 MINUTES AND 35 SECONDS!!!!!!
I can do it in a few words... Stuff happens, people lose their minds (literally). The end
The video did indeed explain whats going on in Evangelion. He did it.
Had to rewatch the vid a second time immediately after finishing it just to grasp everything.
Man this explained the plot way better than crunchy roll
Why are german words like
Seele=Soul
Gehirn=Brain and
Wille=wil
used for organisation names?
bc Japanese people are obsessed with Germany
Lmao good to know but...
why?
I don't know... but many Anime have German references (Elfen Lied, Attack On Titan even Studio Ghibli films), I once talked to a student from Korea, and he said while the people of Korea idolise the USA the Japanese people idolise Germany :)
don't forget Nerv = Nerve
Also it's appropriate to mention there's an order: The supralegal organization that follows religiously the Dead Sea Scrolls is called Seele (Soul), and created the group Gehirn (Brain) to come up with the scientific and technological means to move their agenda. Once the research with the eva protoypes was done and the central computer (MAGI) was ready, Gehirn was dissolved, and Nerv (Nerve) was founded, as the organization that would actually put Seele's plan into action. Pretty cool, huh?
Oh, of course, Wille (Will) is Misato's resulting Nerv, whose goal is to survive the apocalytic world and prove man's will can outlast anything... which is so Misato!
The internal explanation could be that Germany is the most powerful country post-second impact, or that Seele, the organization that rules the world, has German roots. Its leader, Keel Lorenz, has a pretty German sounding name. Also, Germany is the only country that possesses two MAGI of the 5-6 that are in the world. Japan is the country where most of the action takes place, because it's where the Black Moon was found.
The external explanation is that they though Germany was cool, and they wanted mechas fighting in Japan.
I didn't think I'd find something more difficult to follow than Homestuck
***** First time viewer: Suicide and computers...ok kinda wierd, what suddenly drugs I don't understand, so does Lain have a clone or what, WTF ALIENS?!
Homestuck is only easier to understand if you're on the spectrum.

How is this video 9 years old yet easily the best video clearly and concisely explaining the entire series in 7 and a half minutes. My hat is tipped to you good sirs
I’ve read a lot of deep books and watched a lot of deep shows/movies. After an amazing book I’m stuck in the mindset of the book for a couple of days, as if it shakes my paradigm. This was the only show/movie to do so... and it wasn’t for a few days it was probably a couple of weeks. My entire perspective of life was questioned merely by the imaginative possibilities posed by the show. This helps encapsulate this into a (close-to) understate chain of events I can wrap my head around. Thank you.
I watched the whole anime and i got nothing from the things this guy is saying.
I havent seen a single episode of evangelion and my head hurts trying to process what this guy just told, i did not understand shit i guess i have to watch it after all.
you still wont understand shit
so why r u here ??? go watch the anime man
If all this or at least half of the things were explained in the anime. then I could give it more praise but the story is all over the place. It doesn't know how to be vague in its hidden storytelling. I don't know if I can compare anime to a video game but if this game could be more like dark souls and have more understandable clues, I probably could call it a masterpiece.
I got a whole lot more from the manga
First time it's ever made 100% sense to me. Thank you!!!
Are u crazy? This fill just some questions... There are a lot more that even the producer don't know how to answer
+sguitas
If not even the producer knows how to answer them then those questions don't exist
I could tell the creator of this show was on mushrooms or something, he had to have tripped, especially considering all the times the characters tripped balls
Crippling depression.
It's awesome, right! I love hallucination and dream sequences.
He was depressed in the making of the show. Then I heard fans sent death threats to the creator asking for a better ending
@@PonderingPebble lowkey that's actually the unethical yet most logically sound action. Clinical depression made it great so make him even more depressed 🙃
@@PonderingPebble i dont think he was depressed while making the show, he made the show reflecting on the depression he expuierenced when he was 14 years old so basically shinji is the creator when he was a kid?
I still dont understand why Sinji tryin to kill Asuka
Because he's a lil bitch
Asuka always blame shinji . He snap after killing a God
Shinji decided a world where he would hurt people and be hurt himself was better than the limbo of instrumentality. So the first thing he does is hurt Asuka. Asuka takes pity on him and he cries. This is the world Shinji has chosen and, as Asuka says, it's a bit disgusting.
If I understood right, it's because right after everything, he kind of became like his old self again because he didnt know what to do. He rejected other people before and so he did it again until asuka takes pity on him.
I read another analysis that was in so many words: at the start of the third impact Shinji is choking the Asuka in his mind that is yelling at him and judging him (watch the third impact again it is when the song starts he’s choking her). So then, at the end, he sees Asuka and begins choking her thinking it’s the same Asuka. But when she reaches her hand up and he feels that it’s real, he stops because he realizes holy shit they got their bodies back. Anyway that explanation really makes sense to me
The new people may be asking too many questions, but they’ll never know what getting tang’d means
Something to do with LCL I guess
Im sure a lot of people would disagree with me but i think evangelion would have been much better if they came up with this explanation in the series or the movie...
yeah it's very loose, but that's the beauty of it, making the viewers reflect and find the answers themselves.
The explanation was there, you just have to think, that's the beauty of it.
Of course, with all the anime shows "try not to think and enjoy" bullshit for someone who doesn't see anime to think can be more complicated.
Mr Leprechaun
You cant tell me there was an explanation because it wasnt XD Yeah you can think about it, but there is not only one possibility. Furthermorer for a series whose single episodes are finished stories, it is very hard to find the linear story. I also like to watch anime and think but you cant tell me that everyone who watched Evangelion with their brain on completely understood it and also came up with the exact same theory as in this video.
You see it as a beauty and i know the most Evangelion fans do so but i just dont like it, its my personal taste and that doesnt instantly mean that i'm too dump for this show or something, does it?
I mean I fully understand the appeal of it, but i think there are other shows that have a better implementation....
NamenloserX28
Okay I will try to explain myself with the english i know.
No, I'm not an evangelion fan, in fact I don't like it much, but I value it a lot, objectively, I mean.
And, I don't think the main objective of a series should be undertanding it's story, lore, whatever. I don't know if you've seen FLCL, or Paranoia Agent, or even the movie Perfect Blue but if you did I think you could understand more that the main point of a series/movie is, or make you feel what the creator feels, or give you some mesages, creator's opinions,...
Hideaki Anno (Evangelion director) was going through an identity depression while doing NGE, and in the series it's pretty much what it expresses. Fear, isolation, confusion, you name it. That's why NGE is so good, and also, beautiful. It understands it's author.
Well, hope you understood with my potato english.
Mr Leprechaun
Dont know if youve noticed but i speak only potato English as well XD
So ya, i think the characters are beautyful and the atmosphere is great but in the end the show was disappointing for me because its story leads into nothing. THIS Theory in the video would have made the show much more enjoyable. What really counts is the show as a whole so what should i do with a great atmosphere and great characters when the story doesnt use its potential in terms of story? FLCL on the other hand doesnt need to explane itself because there it brings a lot of humor elements to the show. It is funny that nobody knows what the fuck is happening in the course of the series. NGE sadly is nothing one should laugh about...
Didn't explain the penguin 🐧
Pen pen shall not be forgotten
This is the best Description of the shell out of all of RUclips Thank you you made it so dumb people can understand the author made this so confusing
Misato should watch this instead before quitting NERV and become school teacher at Shinji school
Exactly my problem with Evangelion. I love the action and the idea of the series, but this is just too complicated. I know some people may praise the complex plot, or some may just call me dumb and ignorant for not wanting to follow the story line. But the fact that I've had to find a explanation for not just one storyline of the show, but the whole show just annoys me. I can completely see why some people would adore the show however.
Claire Mak This is true to a certain extent, but I would not dismiss all Christian/Jewish symbolism as mere visual decorations, since some of them do play an important role. The womb and mother imagery + Lilith allusion, for example, are some of the most important and recurring symbols/imagery in the series.
Claire Mak Remember, Anno's words should always be taken with a pinch of salt
Claire Mak I think he just meant the name.
The show requiers you to watch it patiently to understand it to some extent. But since its masterpiece, you just can not understand it from the first glance, you need answers you need to do a research. You need to use brain and think about it DEEPLY
But I shouldn't have to look up soooooo many things on a wiki to get even a vague understanding. Hell the person in this video didn't even get everything he got from the anime.
I like how this video is not only reliable, but you know it is because its from 10 years ago. No Nord VPN or Advertising so no reason to pad this video out unnecessarily.
*ATTENTION!*
Watch Evangelion *AGAIN*!
You will truly watch Evangelion only on a second viewing.
You are going to see and realize things you didn't the first time around
You are going to basically watch a difference anime on the second viewing.

*THIS GUYS BRAIN IS TOO POWERFUL TO EXIST*
This is THE most depressing thing ever I've heard
Silly S.E.E.L.E, trying to be God by making a man-made heaven.
I bet God was all like. "Wtf?!"
No, God wasn't like "WTF" when SEELE was being stupid. He was wondering what was going on when everybody was being turned into marmalade. That's definitely not how he made us... right?
God: "Did I make everybody from orange juice? Hm, I can't recall since it's been so very long."
It's like when God made the snake for the first time. He took some clay, rolled it real thin and long and thought to himself... "Well these are a cinch." Oh but wait... that'd be wrong. That snake was marmalade too and... oh boy now I;m getting a headache. :P
Man is ALWAYS trying to "overcome nature" or "play God"... and when they do... it is always a HUGE disaster... hahahah. one example: The Titanic. Man: this ship is 'unsinkable' it is impossible to harm this ship enough to sink it HAHA Man trumps nature!!! Iceberg(nature/God): Say What?
go home humanity, you drunk
No, he was like
"No, no, no! This is all wrong! Your not supposed to be tang, your supposed to be wine! Take the hint!"
this man should be awarded with something price full for explaining this weird ass story
On the last 4 episodes of evangelion i had no clue what was going on I was like what the hell is going on why am I watching this thanks for helping me understand
watched entire series 23 times movies 5 times each never fully understood until this and duuuuuuude u explained it so easy in less than 10mins THANK YOUUU
Can't wait until they make this into an anime!
I love the lore of evangelion. Too bad it's not in the anime so it's probably not canon. From what I got watching the anime and the movies, I'm pretty sure Evangelion is all about screaming and not understaning what's going on.
It's canon, the backstory with the ancestral race isn't explained in the anime because it isn't that important, so they put it in supplementary material.
@@mattf.868 my coment is a joke-ish. That said, while I understand it's not the focus of the anime, I don't agree that all this backstory is not important. The first time I watched the show I got what the ending(s) were going for but I was super confused to what exacly was happening. Maybe I didn't need to get it exacly, as evangelion is not that kind of show, but at least a little more explanation was necessary (the very minimum would be how the second impact happened and what the heck was that adam embrio; those two would greatly help understanding the third impact), for me the show failed on that regard. And Anno himself could call me and say he left all of that out of the og show on purpose and I woudn't belive him haha.
Good for the youtubers I guess. So many adsense money was made because of this lack of explanation haha
But just imagine being them in that situation, someone like shinji or asuka, they have so much pressure on them because they are literally in charge of the world, they literally put a 14 year old boy in charge of humanity. And we’re even lucky he rejected instrumentality because he was literally holding on to himself by a paper clip, or even less. You can basically say Shinji and Asuka are the new Adam and Lilith if you want to
I have a few quick questions, if anybody can help it would be much appreciated.
1. The spear of Longinus prevents the joining of the two. What does that mean?
2. Why did the angels suddenly start attacking? What made them choose this time?
3. How did Adam and Lilith's soul get separated from their bodies?
4. Why did Gendo stab Lilith with the spear? what happens if Lilith becomes too powerful?
5. Seele's goal was the instrumentation project, but they sent Kaworu to Nerv. And if Kaworu reached Adam, humanity would die and Seele won't obtain their goal. Why did Seele send Kaworu?
6.When Kaworu died, did Adam's soul die for good too? Did this affect the project at all?
7. I thought Gendo wanted the Human Instrumentation Project too, so why did he go against Seele? Why didn't he just obey Seele if they shared the same goal?
8. Why did god Rei go along with the instrumentation project? Did god Rei need Eva 01 to proceed? If all it took was to put adam's body with Lilith's soul and body together to create the instrumentation project, why didn't gendo do this from the second he had Adam's body?
9. So does this mean anyone can be restored now? Even those who died before the impact like Misato and Ritsuko? If so, can Kaji come back too?
+John Titor Great questions :)
1. The Spear puts a Seed (Adam or Lilith) in suspended animation ("freezes" it) so it can't come into contact with the other. Otherwise, something as powerful as themselves could result.
2. No clear or definitive answer was ever given. The appearance of Sandalphon in a pupal state inside a volcano is the only major clue given, and this would seem to support the (shaky) theory that the "embryos/seeds" of the Angels were scattered across the globe in the explosion of Second Impact, lay unnoticed in isolated parts of the world while they matured through pupal stages, and upon maturing, proceeded to advance to Tokyo-3 to try to reunite with Adam.
Another possibility is revealed in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Proposal. Angels were originally meant to be creations of the First Ancestral Race, lying dormant in various secluded locations on Earth and the Moon. Rather than being scattered all over the world by Second Impact, they may have been purposefully hidden deep underground or underwater, escaping detection until they matured and began on their way.
3. Adam's soul separated because of Second Impact. Lilith's soul was extracted from Gendo/Fuyutsuki for the creation of Rei.
4. "*For the purpose of opening the Path to God* (joining of Adam and Lilith), Gendo and Seele brought Lilith's growth to a point just before the final stage, and to temporarily delay this they are having Nerv transport the Spear of Longinus that was paired with Adam." (Classified Information, Hideaki Anno)
5. Kaworu only *thought* that the giant Adam would be in Terminal Dogma. Seele tricked him into thinking he was heading for Adam until he discovered the giant was actually Lilith. The dialogue suggests Seele sent Kaworu to be killed by Unit 01 in order to move their schedule forward, while also allowing Kaworu to interfere with Gendo's own plans until he was killed.
6. It's also possible that Gendo infused Adam's soul back into Adam, since Kaworu appears throughout in End of Evangelion.
7. Rei simply didn't want *Gendo* to be in control, since he mainly saw her as a pawn. Since she cared about Shinji (he recognized her individuality) she decided to give the choice to him.
8. Rei contains Lilith's soul and she wanted to return to Lilith in the first place (She says "I'm home" to Lilith). She then decides to move forward with everything in order to aid Shinji. (Rei tells Gendo as she rejects him, "Shinji is calling me.") She doesn't necessarily need Eva Unit 01 to cause Third Impact, it was mainly because Shinji was in there. Gendo waited to initiate Third Impact because he still needed Eva Unit 01 to have an S2 engine (Fruit of Life) in order to activate on her own accord without cables. He needed to be able to use Unit 01 as an "ark", a vessel to contain humanity (LCL) temporarily and release it after Third Impact. Notice in End of Evangelion that he waits to merge Adam with Rei, until he hears that Eva Unit 01 has awakened. ("Gendo: Has EVA-01 finally awakened?" He then proceeds.) *Also*, like Seele, he was also waiting until all Angels were defeated so they would not be able to interfere with his plan.
9. There is a chance that Misato and the others could reform because a) Rei was already with them when they died and may have collected their souls even before Instrumentality began (the ghostly images of Rei that hover above Misato and Ritsuko's as they die). During Instrumentality, Rei appears over all the dead bodies in NERV and they also turn into LCL. Also, Asuka was able to eventually reform from the LCL after being mutilated by the Mass Production Evas. Kaji died too long before Instrumentality began, I'm afraid.
Evangelion Analysis Project
Whoaa, you answered! Thank you so much good sir. ^_^ Your answers were very precise and clear. I think everything has been cleared up now. Thanks for your time, I really do appreciate it.
Oh and about the last point, I heard somewhere that Rei, being a god, had the power to transcend time. Hence why we see a ghost Rei at the start in episode 1 and we also see her after God Rei's death. Rei can travel back in time and also in the future. So there might be a possibility that she could have gathered anybody's soul. (or maybe I'm just making stuff up haha)
Anyways, I couldn't have known this much about NGE without your help. I Love your work, please make more videos hehe.
John Titor You're absolutely right on the Rei point :)
Some more evidence if you're interested:
The Episode Commentary for #01 that comes with Platinum Vol.01 (which is translated from the original that was included with Renewal) said this about that scene with Rei:
"When Shinji comes to New Tokyo 3, he sees a girl that seems to be Rei Ayanami for just an instant. Considering how she is injured and wrapped up in bandages, when he later meets her in NERV Headquarters, the natural assumption would be that this was a phantom vision. But in Episode 26', 'My True Heart For You,' a different possibility is suggested. The girl that appeared for just one cut in this scene may be the *Rei Ayanami who is 'the existence that gazes upon man*.'"

Thank you for watching :) and more videos coming soon, hopefully as soon as November.
Evangelion Analysis Project Best of luck, I look forward to it :^)
+Evangelion Analysis Project I always thought that Rei/ Lilith became a God meaning that she can transcend time. She appears at the start of Shiji's journey before he even meets her and the same image appears at the end of evangelion. It's not backed up by much but I always theorized that she gathered all the souls of every human throughout space and time since she could easily send her copies to do so so Kaji could very likely be a part of instrumentality.
This video needs to be fully remastered on a blu ray
I didn't realize that Shinji REJECTED the mass instrumentality, I was under the assumption that somehow Shinji and Asuka were the only ones alive because they were in the Evas somehow. I know understand why Shinji had the inner monologue about dreams and then talking about always being able to transform into a human.

'Mind Raped'
I have some questions from the End of Evangelion movie that were bothering me, and I hoped you would know the answers.
We know that Gendo was using Rei to start human instrumentality, but what was SEELE trying to do with EVA-01 and the mass produced EVAs? Was that an alternative version that would bring about the same results? And if it would bring the same result, then why didn't they just let Gendo do what he was going to do anyway? Was there some hidden underlying rule that "whoever starts instrumentality gets to control the collective mind"? Was that why SEELE and NERVE were basically racing to start the process first? Was that why Rei got to be in control of it, and why Shinji was able to break free from it... because they were both involved in different versions of the ritual at the same time? This is the one part of the 'End of Evangelion" that I don't understand.
Also, thank you for making this video. It's good to see an Eva explanation video that doesn't do one of the two things that usually happens when people talk about the series:
1. They dive so deep into personally invented fan-theories that it veers away from any content that's actually in the series. This one usually ends in fighting with others to try to defend those fan-theories.
2. They shrug shoulders and say "it's just a mind fuck! LOL!" and try to make a crappy joke out of it.
So once again, thank *you* for actually being useful and explaining things in an easily understood manner.
+jack squatt Seele wanted Instrumentality to be permanent, Gendo wanted Instrumentality to only be a temporary refuge from Third Impact, using Eva Unit 01 as the temporary vessel for all souls.
(Quotes from End of Evangelion):
Gendo: "Humans should evolve into a new world. That is the purpose of the Eva series."
SEELE: "We have no intention of giving up our human forms simply to enter the Ark called Eva."
Thank you for your comment, very humbled by your words. Have a great week!
Thank you for your reply. This *does* clear up a few things. I'm always surprised when I miss dialogue like this. I'm the type to pause the subtitles and/or rewind to make sure I understand everything being said, but this *still* happens.
Again, thank you.
"Was there some hidden underlying rule that "whoever starts instrumentality gets to control the collective mind"? Was that why SEELE and NERVE were basically racing to start the process first? To add to what EAP posted (3 years ago), I also saw it as adults wanting to control the end goal of life while using children as the means to their ends (akin to fathers living through sons they push into sports). In the end, both Rei and Shinji reject the control adults hold over them and pick their own path for their own goals.
That is what is so nice about NGE: you can watch it for the surface story (as explained in this video) or the underlying theme of how adults manipulate children for better or worse in their attempts to teach them about becoming an adult or how to be a willing tool.
im glad that 1.3 million other people were also confused
