- The paddy field that is close to our house is my Aunty’s & this season also by looking at the bountiful harvest with light green rice plants with the eye catching golden paddy kernels swaying to their own free Rythem of the breeze is a pleasurable sight! Brother was given the task of looking after the bountiful paddy field by our aunt because it’s close to our house! When the harvest becoming closer to reap, its an ancient tradition that every farmer makes a scarecrow & erect it in the middle of the paddy field. My brother, who has being given the field protector task plus to erect the scarecrow in the field as well!
There are various stories about erecting a scarecrow in the middle of a lush bountiful harvest. I’ve heard that people say that since the scarecrow is resembling to a man, the birds are scared to come to eat the rice kernels. But I remember grandfather use to tell me a different story about the scarecrow! since not every farmer gets a bountiful paddy harvest due to many reasons, by erecting a scarecrow, gets rid of the people’s evil eyes & bad mouths from the lush harvest it seems. But I’ll tell you, rather than getting rid of the evil eyes, people will laugh their heads off by looking at our brother’s scarecrow! Finally two nails and a bottle was hung to scare the birds away because of the sounds! After all our dear Mr scarecrow cannot even shout at the birds!
I felt a bit sorry for brother as he is being working very hard to build his friend, Mr. Scarecrow, so I decided to make a simple snack for tea. Since brother didn’t specify whether he likes savory or sweet, I made one savory dish & one sweet dish with what ever I had at home. Didn’t spend time to buy anything extra at all. There was some spinach which I cut and brought home to make dinner. I took the spinach juice and color and made soursop flower shaped snack which is very famous in Sri Lanka. All I wanted to do was to highlight the natural light green color of the soursop flowers in this sweet dish.
I always get excited when ever I get these unplanned sudden urges to make dishes. There were boiled potatoes to make a potato white curry for dinner, I added two more boiled potatoes and made these spinach rolls, though the name sounds funny! I’ll tell you! both these dishes are very easy to make and ideal snacks for tea time. Whether it’s savory or sweet You can indulge your self with this snack with an ideal cup of cinnamon flavored milk tea. As always here is my tip for my friends for a flavoursome cup of fresh cinnamon milk tea. While boiling fresh milk, add Ceylon Tea along with a piece of fresh ginger & few pieces of cinnamon. To taste an exclusive cup of cinnamon milk tea, slightly burn the cinnamon sticks in flame to infuse the natural cinnamon oil with the tea! Yum.... you will love it!
I suddenly felt a bit guilty when I saw my grandmother coming to the kitchen as there was a delay in serving tea but then again I am sure that she enjoyed munching this tasty & delectable snack while having her delayed cup of Ceylon Cinnamon Milk Tea! Not bad at all for all the efforts! Don’t you think my dear friends?

මල්ලි මහන්සි වෙලා පඹයා හදන නිසා පොඩියට රස කැවිල්ලක් හදල දෙන්න හිතුණා. ඒත් ඉතින් මල්ලි කැමති සැරටද පැණි රසටද කියලා හරියටම කිව්වෙ නැති නිසා සැරටයි පැණිරසටයි දෙකටම හරියන්න කෑම ජාති දෙකක්ම හැදුවා. ගෙදරම තිබුණ දේවල් මිසක් රසකැවිලි හදන්න කියලා අමුතු ජාති ගෙනාවෙ නෑ. රෑ කෑමට හදන්න කියලා හිතාගෙන කපාගෙන ආපු නිවිති වලින යුෂ අරගෙන ලස්සන පාටට තියෙන්න අනෝදා මල් හැදුවා. එතකොට ඇත්ත අනෝදා මල් වල තියෙන ලා කොල පාට මේ රසකැවිල්ලේ ඒ විදියටම දකින්න පුළුවන්.
රෑ කෑමට අල කිරිහොද්දක් හදන්න තම්බාගත්ත අල වලටම වැඩිපුර අලගෙඩි දෙකක් එකතු කරලා තම්බගෙන ඒකෙන් තමයි නිවිති සුරුට්ටු හැදුවේ. මේ කෑම දෙකම ඉක්මනටම හදාගන්න පුළුවන්, තේ වෙලාවට හොඳටම ගැලපෙන සරල කෑම දෙකක්. සැරට තිබුණත් පැණි රසට තිබුණත් මේ ඕන එකක් එක්ක කුරුඳු රසට හදපු කිරි තේ එකත් හොඳට ගැලපෙනවා. නැවුම් එළකිරි නටවා ගනිද්දී ceylon tea එකතු කරගෙන අමු ඉඟුරු කෑල්ලකුත්‍ එක්ක කුරුඳු කෑලි ටිකත් දාලා තම්බාගත්තම ඒ කිරි තේ එක අමුතුම රසයි. හැබැයි මම කුරුඳු එකතු කලේ ලා ගින්දරට අල්ලලා. එතකොට කුරුඳු කෑල්ල burn වුණාම කුරුඳු වල තියෙන තෙල් රසය තරමක් ඉස්මතු වෙනවා.
කෑම ජාතිත් දෙකක්ම හදන්න පොඩ්ඩක් වෙලා ගිය නිසා හවස තේ එක පරක්කු වෙන්න ඇති. මං හිතන්නෙ ඒකයි අත්තම්මා කුස්සියටම ආවේ. තේ එක පරක්කු වුණත් හවස තේ එකත් එක්ක හපන්න දේකුත් තියෙන නිසා අත්තම්මට සතුටු හිතෙන්න ඇති.

Hi there from the U.S. I found your video a while back just browsing around for different cooking videos from all over the world because I love trying different food and traditional recipes. I have been a fan of yours since and I just liked but never comment. Today, however I felt the need to because not very many videos have a detailed description of what a video is about. I want to say "Thank you". Aside from the obvious beautiful, peaceful lush surroundings, I sometimes end up with more questions than answers when I am watching a video . Such as the name of the ingredients you are cooking with during each video, or is all those crops/land belongs to one family, etc. The descriptions leaves out the guess work and more time to enjoy the videos. Your home, country and it's natural beauty along with your food is so breathtaking . I love the relationship , the closeness you have with your brother and the care you give grandmother. I love everything about your videos. The subtle sound of the cooking utensils scraping against each other. The puttering of mustard seeds in oil. The birds singing in the yard. The sound of the running water where you wash your vegetables. The rustle of the leaves. The chopping sounds of fruits n vegetables. The scraping sound of the coconut. We also like how you holler at your brother.....Maalliiiii. Its cute.

Dear Nadee, I feel so peaceful to watch you and brother pick up fruits and vegetables from your farm, cook in clay pots and baskets etc for carrying and storing stuff and create different dishes and juices. Nadee, I appreciate your creative mind. The outdoor oven you cook in is very neat. My favorite part is when you go wash your vegetables under the flowing water. I wonder where does that water come from. I also love the peaceful background music. 🙏😊💗

It is called alugbati in the Philippines.. malabar or ceylon spinach ... high in vit a and c.. iron .. and i think in phosporus magnesium, phosporous, potassium and calcium... it is a bit slimy like in okra .. soluble and good for digestion 😀 your ceylon spinach is huge 🤩
