  • Recently moving to PA, I now rely on the SEPTA Media Trolley to get around my area and one of the nearby station is only within walking distance from my front door. I got out there and filmed trolleys all day long when I had nothing else better to do honestly.
The 101 Media Trolley has interurban roots, hence why the line resembles more of Regional Rail line than a trolley line. Make no mistake though, every 20-30 Minutes, a big white trolley pulls into Drexelbrook station puting regional rail to shame in frequency. This was part of the infamous Red Arrow Lines interurban empire which included this line, the Sharon Hill Trolley, the now-defunct Ardmore & West Chester Trolleys, and the Norristown High-Speed Line (aka the P&W). Red Arrow Y Bus (Now the SEPTA 111 Bus) also runs hourly nearby offering a second way to 69th Street. However if you want Media, you have to transfer for the 110 Bus at Marple Crossroads.

Nice video! Visit the New South Ferry station when you get the chance. It just reopened today.

As built, Drexelbrook's original name was "Golf Estates", and was a PASSING SIDING on a single track stretch that ran from just 'Timetable South' of School Lane to behind the Post office at Springfield Rd.

Prior to WWII, double track was extended to the Waverly.

Nice video. Nice scenic area too, reminds me of the St Kilda Light Rail, before the low floors came along and invaded it.

In a ways, it's EXACTLY like the St. Kilda Light Rail. Prior to 1970, the Red Arrow Lines owned this track and even though they ran streetcar-like vehicles, Red Arrow was considered an interurban railroad. SEPTA's "upgrades" to the line turned it into a true streetcar line and killed the railroad aspect of the time. It's kind of annoys me because trolleys have to slow down before each road crossing because Delaware County don't want level crossing gates and the warning signals don't activate unless the car slows down before the crossing :/ Dumb stupid dumb.

Nicholette Casey Similar to the M Ocean View line in San Francisco between Junipero Serra/Sloat and Stonestown on the private right-of-way. The M has to stop before crossing at Ocean Ave. and Eucalyptus Dr. before proceeding. No gates. Just a stop sign. And a traffic signal when it crosses 19th Ave to go into the median at the mall and SF State.

Drexeline Station went in in '68 or '69. The area was single track at that time (the inbound).
