I was 12 in 1974. I am from the Netherlands. Didn't know what Errol was singing about, but you could feel lt it was a sad story even before he screams.

It’s wonderful something that twisted should ever have been considered chart fodder.
In the U.S., it flopped ignominously when first issued in 1974 on Bell Records (yes, picture Bell issuing something harrowing as this, given what they usually put out) . . . took Mickie Most taking his "'marbles" to Big Tree the next year for this to finally make the Top 10 in the States.
