Thank you Ralfy for all that you do. Almost a year since I started my whiskey adventures and I have you to thank for it. Cheers!
Another wonderful review. Thanks Ralfy!
Excellent Review Ralfy.
Thank you.
Peace
As a micro-distiller I have come to really appreciate a well made whisky, it is not an easy thing to do! I personally like sugar maple casks, they impart a maple flavor without the sickly sweet nature of some products that just add syrup.
Hello Ralfy!
I was watching this review as I tasted my bottle of Glenfiddich 15 Distillery Edition and I must say that while at first I totally agreed with your take on it, I started to notice something really pleasant as the fill level went down. After 1/3 of the bottle, it started to change significantly, I immediately reminded your recent revisit on the Glen Allachie 15, some whiskies do need a lot more time.
The second half of the bottle is so much better, it gets juicier and fresher, that high alcohol burn gets replaced with strong vanilla notes, barley sugar and pepper, I even find myself adding much less water now than before. This one really rewards your perseverance.
If you can, go back to it Ralfy and wait until you get the fill level to 2/3 - 1/2. I will tell you this, lately I’ve been tasting this one and Glen Scotia 15, and while my preference was really clear at first, now the strength and character of this whisky is making me rethink ;)
I respect the hell out of you.
Hi ralfy
I agree whole hearted, I only buy bottles of scotch that say non chile filtered and natural color, I do have a large collection of whiskeys, but in the last 12 months I have only bought the above bottles 🍼 I want mist in my glass, I don't know why people don't get it, bring on the mist in my glass, cheers brother ralfy, and keep up the good work, love your reviews !!!
Thanks Ralfy , very good review. Have a bottle of 15 year old Sollera Vatt Glenfiddich, but just keeping in it in the collection(not a great fan of Glenfiddich). As always very informative, thanks once more.
Hi Ralfy,
great re-review ;)
Malt mention: Malty modest mudguard
Sadly they added caramel. Here in Germany they have to write it on the bottle ;)
Thank you for the review
Great review, Ralfy! Maybe they've sorted out the cask issue? Wish I had tried it a year ago when it came out. Great 1 litre bottle at duty free, though.
This is pure comedy. According to the review this whisky tastes of just about everything from cocoa and chocolate to pickled ginger and stale tea bags. LOLZ!
You put a lot of sweat into this one. Appreciate it.
Great review, Ralfy!
Malt Mention: Mighty Malty Micturators
I feel the wine vinegar, green apple and dark chocolate in my bottle. If only I had a palate as colourful as yours :)
Fantastic review, Ralfy - deep thoughts on the business as well. Bought Cardhu 15yo & 18yo recently - my mate was soon to be married, so we sort of celebrated for a week lol. Anyway, I liked the 15yo better and my mate thought I was mad, but I really did. The nose was just outstanding - miles away from the 12yo imho. But there was some heat in the 18yo that left me sort of less satisfied. Ever tried them or plan to review them maybe? Cheers :)
Hi Ralfy.
I agree with your estimation of this GDE. we had it about a year or so ago and personally at the same 15yo I fully expected a sort of "Solara plus" w/that big whack of alcohol that its bottled at. Not even close and could never get the H2O to really compliment the spirit.
It was just such a different animal... with something not correct about it.
we were a wee disappointed.(83/100)
We will however continue keeping the Gf15 Solara on the Maltbar galley.
cheers
This is not a higher proof version of the Solera Reserve. It's more like an older and stronger version of the 12 since it's a blending of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
Ralfy , in on of your reviews , where you showed as what you bought on the auction, was a bottle of Glenesk 26 years old , from Duncan Tailor .Are you planning to review it some time? The reason I asked , I had exectly the same bottle, may be different cask ,( my was distiled in 1981 and was 56.7% Alc, I think ) , and that was ,by far , the best whisky I had, ever ...I just wanted to hear your apinion about this one, thanks. I remember you was exited about this bottle too. Thanks in advance..
Thanks, but seems not to be available in the USA. Will you be reviewing the new Mortlach offerings? Was able to snag a Mortlach 1990 20 Year Old Signatory Cask #6069, which I remember you enjoyed. Hope I do too.
o yes, please more NCF , and Ralfy should do the marketing for the malty misty marvells!
Ralfy, I purchased a liter of this at Glasgow airport as I was returning to the US from my 1st trip to Scotland in August of '02. The bottle is green glass and the tube is also dark green, however same proof, same age. Would you suspect the major difference between the version you re-reviewed (I noticed someone else mentioned you reviewed this in 357, and this must be a replacement bottle since the level of liquid is a touch higher that the bottle in the earlier review ; ) ) and mine might be the wood management/quality of the casks?
This scotch gets a whole new taste and sweet once you let it rest for 30-45 minutes! It becomes beautiful!! (No water added)
This is not a general rule. In tropical countries like Brazil the rest time should be half of temperate countries.
Love you and videos.... take care from Rio de Janeiro...BRAZIL.
This is like getting a range of a distillery, we get a range of a reviewer. Two reviews of the same malt rather close together. Tasting notes are very similar even the amount of water that is add is eventually the same. Ralfy, this really shows your consistency, was already a fan but this give me more reason to have a little faith. Slainte.
I had forgotten all about that review ooops !
Hi Ralfy, thanks for another great review. Glenfiddich was my first single malt many years ago.
I'm going to be visiting Scotland in September and was wondering if you had any advice about distilleries to visit that would be good for a photographer -- either ones that are particularly beautiful and/or ones that are especially friendly to folks who want to take pictures during a tour.
Thanks!
best to e-mail Distilleries direct about photos as some are restrictive.
There is a whisky festival in Dufftown, at the end of September.
Go to the Whiskyshop Dufftown and to the Dufftown local website for details.
At Glenfiddich, you can fill your own and there are many available tours. Sister distillery Balvenie can be toured by appointment.
There are many others in the surrounding area.
Cheers ralfy
Ralfy, I just received the new Bruichladdich classic laddie as a gift, apparently it is at a lower price point and without the age statement, but bottled at 50%! (wasn't it 46 before?) I was wondering if you had any thoughts or intentions to do a new review.
I hope it's tasty ! 'classic' remains rather young stuff .
Ralfy, are Glenfiddich's all pot stills direct fired? If not, do you have an idea what percentage of them are direct fired and which whiskies in the range are produced with them?
not all ! . . . but best to check with Distillery direct.
Hey ralfy, would you rather have this one or a Speyburn 15?
Hello Ralfy. An American here. Wondering if you have ever had Basil Hayden's? It's small batch bourbon. Small U.K. connection ... in one Bond novel it is mentioned as being 007's bourbon of choice. I know in some reviews you enjoy when they have a nice presentation and packaging to help entice a drinker and help tell the maker's story. I really love how they've handled this one. A nice heavy paper held on by a ring of metal and wood. Really unique.
good stuff and one I intend to review later on.
Ralfy, Hapy holidayz maltm8!
Ralfy hav u tried th G15Solera as of L8?
jus checkn!
cheersz
What do you think if this one compared to your last review of the 15 DE of Glenfiddich?
cask influence a little rougher.
Hey ralfy! I recently acquired a bottle of glenfiddich 21 gran reserva for a very very reasonable price. Do you think it will increase in price or will it stay the same? I can't wait to taste it!
mr greenguy half a decade has passed and the price here in Aus is substantially cheaper now than it was back then. Often see it on sale.
It sounds like you're not missing Bonnie Scotland Ralfy!! I wouldn't change it for the world for all its faults! :D
no dijon ketchup notes??
Hey Ralfy. gud job.
Luv tht Glenfdch zip - tht U-neek tang!
Its aparent G12 n 15 hav th qualty wud!
MayB not so much w/th DE as u so adeptly demonst8.
here's a Q.
wud u hav NE intrist (if givn the chanz)
n a field trp 2 th forests wher these cask wuds (trees) r loc8d n feld?
u kno, sumpin akin 2 th peat bog vlogs!
jus a thght. but cud b intristin!
L8r M8.
Ralfy, you and Jason Pyle made me pay attention to whiskey spirits that I drink. Great review, at times we don't appreciate venerable old brand like Glenfiddich and Glenlivet. By the way, are the Manx Cats wild or domestic? Just curious.
domestic !
I miss the great old blend White Horse!!!
I want a peaty blend with Lagavulin in it, but i will propably never see it again.
A cask strength, unchillfiltered, uncoloured blend that can compete with the single malts in terms of the overall quality and experiense.
Please start making it again, or a similar blend.
Thank you for another enjoyable review, Ralfy.
Malt Mention, if I may: Malty Miami Hurricanes (us college football fans in the US will love it!).
I think we are handling these big companies with kid gloves - ooh you have a cask strength non- chilled version available bravo! The shop from where I buy my whiskies has Glenfarclas 105 1L bottle 10€ cheaper than this mediocre liquid and those other Grants put some serious flavor into their spirit.
sir i have a doubt but not about this whisky. sir is the black label a better one or a jack daniel no 7.
I just hope your t-shirt says "Keep calm, have a dram".
Re-Review? Seems like you tackled this one in #357!
How 'bout that, same rating 116 reviews apart.
forgot all about that review !
Yeah, that's right! Same score and everything. We certainly can't say you're inconsistent!
You Know Ralfy some times thank god you really can take the MIST. Well said
Distillery Edition, Ralfy.
shuboy05
Yea we all know that "now" however at the time (yr+ ago) 15yo would = 15 yo and not a 12er, supercharged or not, misleading at best.
Malt mention: Malty Musketeers!
been mentioned !
Hi where's blog 473
ooops ! getting ahead of myself, thanks for pointing the mistake out to me, now corrected !
No problem thanks for enlightening me into the world of whisky , heading off to my local distillery next week Glen Garioch , and if I get some interest here in the northeast may try and start a wee whisky tasting group
Regards
sorry I'm still learning my apologies
you reviewed this before 357 or something wtf
Ralfy,
Ralfy just surfin about stumbling upon an NAS site (or should I say Age Statement apologist site) and the latest crock is that distillerys want to appeal to a younger demographic.
okay...How many young folks do you know Ralfy, that have enough disposable income to drop £69 plus on an unknown product to begin with. call me sheltered but I don't know any.
They certainly do not give the younger folks much credit with this mindset.
They also said they've painted themselves into a corner with this whole "Age Statement Thing"
Wow does this guy ever got it backwards. ahhhhgh.
Peace mate
your seeing through their flannel ! they think younger 'consumers' are more impressionable.
Looks like this

Malt Mention: Malty Malt Mentioners
Malty american pappy van winkles
Thanks for the review ralfy. Never been a fan of Glenfiddich. So I shall not be seeking out a wee dram of this one.
Malt Mention. Malty Motherfuckers.
just not suitable as a M-mention.
lol
***** How about.......Malty Mo-fo's ?
Towards the end of it, at 19:03 when he starts getting into his imagination I'm like is this guy high? Or am I just too high for this right now?
Is the or... part ( on your side)
First?!
. . . verified !
This alcohol volume can be dangerous. I mean, can cause throat or mouth cancer.
It's one good reason we add water to cask spirits !
Malty mental health workers.
Mustard? Cumin? Almond flake? Turmeric? Rice wine? Leather? Sour ginger? Lime oil? Stale teabag? Nope. None of that. Sorry mate your expertise far exceeds mine but I honestly think some of these ingredients you say are done for a laugh.
