I live in Scotland, in a social housing flat (housing for the poor basically). My housing association sent out a very nice christmas message today. The message was that christmas is really only about celebrating with friends and family, and that their presence is enough. Any fancy food, gifts, decorations is "extra". Everything but your loved ones is extra, and it's nice but not at all necessary. I thought it was very anti-shopping, anti-excess. Its nice for all of us who are doing a declutter to remember that, this time of year. Mrs Heart is wonderful to getting stuff down to 7 boxes. I got mine down to 1 (but bear in mind I live in a flat not a house)... it feels great to have less weight of stuff. After xmas, it's spring cleaning time here !
I’m happy I’m not the only one that doesn’t put everything away until mid Jan. I begin with the obviously Christmas items just after New Year, but the wintry things, like the tree and white lights, stay up much longer. January can be so gray and empty. Having the hygge of Christmas helps so much.
One of my best friends has seasonal depression and bipolar disorder, we got him a Christmas tree a few years ago and ‘broke in’ to decorate his apartment for Christmas for like 3 years in a row, and the last time he just left the tree up all year. It’s a 4’ one and makes him happy. As far as I know, it’s the first thing he set up when he moved to another state this past summer. I’m all for people decorating however they want all the time on their timeline and not anyone else’s.
I would love to see your basement finished so you could have a huge craft station. At Christmas you could have your crafts out and separated making them more visible and easier to access making. It more likely to craft. You're doing great, so proud of you.
🎉 woohoo! Now all you have left for Christmas stuff is what you actually use (and will use in the basement in the future)! Very nicely done. This is a huge milestone! And 7 bins is nothing to scoff at. 👏👏👏
You have done amazingly well Ms Heart to declutter seven bins of Christmas stuff, especially because we all know just how much you love Christmas! So proud of the progress you have made. I think the final thing, would be to re-check the bins and anything not used/displayed should also be donate or removed from the house, because if you didn’t display those things then you don’t need them.
I'm with you on the season going too fast. I actually keep my interior Christmas (except for the live tree) up until the end of February. Winter is just too depressing without the warm, festive colors keeping the cozy, happy vibe in my home.
Next year go thru the bins of Xmas crafts with a Samaritan’s shoebox. Even though they say new stuff, if you find more unopened craft items it could make a child overseas very happy!
I declutterred & reduced my Christmas bins by 50% back in August. It made everything so easy come December 1st. I used everything I had except a few small packs of twinkle lights and 3 tiny , fake green trees. All the bins are empty right now because all the things are in the house making it look beautiful. You are doing a phenomenal job ❣️❣️🎄🎁🎅
I’m always impressed when I watch you! Keep going! I’m planning to review all my decorations when I take them down after Christmas! There are several things I didn’t put out, so I have really make hard choices. We are in an apartment now, and storage is tricky. We keep the totes in our master bedroom closet, but my daughter is living with us too ( 43- has faced some difficulties, but has a new job now). So her things are also in the closet! Keep inspiring us! Merry Christmas!🎄 ❣️☃️❄️🙏
Today is kind of gray and cold and I've been struggling with motivation to finish my decorating and get ready for guests. I treated myself to watching this video as inspiration and it worked! Now I'm ready to get busy making some progress around here. Thank you. As a suggestion, I would really like to see you do a video on what you're buying for your kids as gifts because you've done a lot of no spend challenges over the years and a lot of decluttering and you say you don't have a shopping addiction any longer which is great but I'm curious to see how much stuff is still coming in with each holiday. I know that that's what I struggle with and I would be interested to hear your thoughts on stopping the inflow of stuff in the way of gifts.
My dear freind..I am way beyond coffee at this time of day.I was shopping at a local thrift store ,Wal-Mart and our local grocery store .traffic is nuts and some people have been born grinches.lol. so I am finally home with my feet up and a bourbon and coke. To enjoy my videos!
I wonder if it might be a nice task to go throw all the random boxes/containers in the basement, to put them into storage bins with lids? You could declutter and organize them as well.
I can tell this season is so fun for you. You have made sooooo much progress on condensing your Christmas items. The basement is looking like it is almost done being decluttered. I hope it’s not overwhelming to plan for future basement decor.
In some countries it's normal to keep your Christmas decor up to February 2nd, so don't feel bad that you're keeping them up in January. 😊 To me it actually feels so wrong when people decorate super early and then get fed up with the decorations so they take them down on like December 27th. For me, January 6th is the earliest time they can go down.
In the European countries most of us dont finish with christmas until 6th jan, still feasting to be done! In fact some countries have another santa figure pop along in January. Feb 2nd sounds like a perfect time to take stuff down :)
Maybe working towards one container for all the sentimental-only Christmas things is a good goal, the stuff you're not using and don't put up but aren't ready to part with. Having one bin of just mementos seems reasonable. If you feel like the season goes too fast, I wonder if having less stuff would give you more time? When you really put it in perspective, every hour you spend decorating, unpacking bins, re-packing bins, etc. is an hour you don't have to spend with friends and family. If you only had 5 items of decor, would you really have a worse Christmas than if you put out 200 items of decor?
You made so much progress today! 🥰🥰🥰 The way you stacked the Christmas bins in the Christmas cave is what we all were suggesting for you to do. 😊 That way, you can easily see all the bins without them being stacked behind each other. ✨️
You are so good at organizing. Especially as an ADHD person. I know that spaces become recluttered or need to hit again because of life but you really are doing so amazing. I struggle a lot with maintaining and often don't finish areas when I do work in them and they get re cluttered before I get back to it. You really are so great at making categories and it looks so orderly!!!! I just have junk. 😂 And it is not orderly at all!!! I really want to do sections in my basement like how you did it basically became a storage area that stuff gets shifted to or mixed up periodically. I need a good system down there. And there is plenty I know I can let go of or actual trash and today today stuff down there. I just don't get to it as often as I would like or if I do the rest of the house gets behind. I wish I could find a good balance so everything was tidy at once. Rooms basically take turns around here and the bedrooms and basement get put off more than the other main traffic areas. Anyhow. All that to say I think you are doing great! And your Christmas stuff has really become a very organized thing and it looks amazing. Well done love! ❤🎉
I love keeping my Christmas decorations up into January too. They brighten things up at a dark & cold time of year where I live. Even after removing the tree ornaments, I leave the lights on a bit longer before dismantling my tree 😊
I emptied one super sized tote to donation as I was hauling out my Xmas things. My basement is now decorated. The bathtub stall down there isn’t usable and is filled with the non Xmas decor but that’s ok. The progress is good. Keep inspiring.
This is Nina n I've gotten back in getting rid of stuff. All thanks to you. It has been a healing process n it has taken time n still will take more time. Thank you so much
What if you used your pink tree to hang your sentimental ornaments in your room and a small tree for hubby with his sentimental ornaments. That way it doesn't rot in a bag and is used and loved.
Congratulations on your 7 bins of Christmas decluttering! That’s a huge achievement!! I really love your idea to put the ceramic Christmas tree in the window!! I’m absolutely going to copy that! It looks so sparkly and colourful and it’s just perfectly framed there - love it! I have to ask, because my compulsion to label everything is nagging at me: did you label the sentiment Christmas bins? Also, was there a label on the Christmas servingware bin?
I agree. Everything I didn’t use this year I donated. It wasn’t much, because I do this every year. All my Christmas decor is on display and I have a lot, about 20 storage boxes which are all empty currently
It is completely up to her what she can manage in one session. What she needs to do to keep her nervoussystem in check. She has done an amazing job and is getting better and better but it's still a mental disorder that will not heal itself suddenly. Your comment is not helpful nor nice.
Your comment is not helpful nor nice. Melanie has done an amazing job decluttering her home and keeping her hoarding disorder in check. She knows how much she can do in one session and what needs to be done or not be done to keep her nervoussystem in check. Hoarding disorder won't heal itself miraculously. So stop telling her what to do.
I am a more detailed organizer, I would want smaller containers in the broader categories. I would want all the ribbon, picks, etc. in a smaller container in the larger container. Wrapping station with bags, tissue, bows, wrap, tags, pen, tape. Christmas baking in a smaller container. This maybe something you consider in the future or you are ladybug and it does bother you.
It’s to bad you couldn’t build shelves in the Christmas cave, so you can organize everything to see what you have and what doesn’t get used that you could donate or sell
ASK yourself if you need to keep all your newly empty containers. They could go out with the tossie tosses. So that you won't be tempted to refill them. Make some of them "donate-able donate boxes" as Dana K. White says. 😂 You did good consolidation of your containers.
I don't need to declutter Xmas stuff... My dog is doing it by eating my outdoor decorations, toys, furniture... If it is chewable and in reach, he chews😔🫤
This is a lie I have been watching this woman for over 5 years. This garage would literally been completely clean gone or organized. Her inside at one time was very clean and organized it's all cluttered nasty and not clean.Who the hell has seasonal depression .People have donated many things she put it all in that garage.Lies Lies lies lies .I'm never supporting a deceiving liar.Keep watching I promise you after 5 years of counsel or therapy bullshit
I love the idea of Christmas "action bins"! Having bins dedicated to things you know you'll use but don't need to get out yet is a great idea!

7 totes is impressive! Give yourself a HUGE pat on the back!

I think miss pepper is a wonderful support girl. Some great results. So much tossy, tossy.
She was so, so cute in this video!!! She was reaching for that nasty candy cane!! 😂
🎉 woohoo! Now all you have left for Christmas stuff is what you actually use (and will use in the basement in the future)! Very nicely done. This is a huge milestone! And 7 bins is nothing to scoff at. 👏👏👏
Your videos bring me so much joy! Thank you for talking so openly about hoarding disorder!
You are doing so much to help not only your family, but many others as well. I like how you share your thought process. That is very helpful.

I love your channel. It helps me know that it's okay for decluttering to take a long time. ❤
I'm with you on the season going too fast. I actually keep my interior Christmas (except for the live tree) up until the end of February. Winter is just too depressing without the warm, festive colors keeping the cozy, happy vibe in my home.
The bay window looks beautiful!
Impressive results!
I hope you have a good time until the new year!
Now let those empty bins go!!😂 Well done!!

Set up separate bins for the boys so they can keep the Christmas stuff they want to save
Thank you for being so open and trusting, sharing your struggles + inspiring SO many others :) 💜💜💜 So impressive!!

Wow! What an amazing progress you have made this year- 7 tubs!!

I know it's hard but I feel like if you empty out for example 4 bins you should consider donating 2 bins so you don't refill them. Just a suggestion.
December 2024. All my ribbon fits in one small plastic shoebox. I use yarn on packages- I have 3 skeins. Tina, Al's wife
I love that you are at the point that you can start to curate the Christmas collection.
You are doing a great job. Have wonderful Christmas! 🩷
Bravo Ms Heart!🥳👏👏👏👏👏 🦄It’s fantastic that you’re at the point when you can begin to organize!🎄🎁🔔
U and pepper did a great job organizeing. And 7 totes emptyed is awesome! ❤❤❤

When you are on the other side of this process I hope you’ll compile a supercut of all the food items you found in your basement! 😁
This is Nina n I've gotten back in getting rid of stuff. All thanks to you. It has been a healing process n it has taken time n still will take more time. Thank you so much

Hurray for the organization!
What if you used your pink tree to hang your sentimental ornaments in your room and a small tree for hubby with his sentimental ornaments. That way it doesn't rot in a bag and is used and loved.

Hello from Germany, hi miss heart and miow pepper. 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Amazing! Awesome job!
I love your tree topper and how it shines on the ceiling! Can you tell me the brand?
🩷I’m desperate to get into your ribbon bin to stack neatly by colour🧑🏽🎄🧚🏼♀️ I make your Christmas ribbons look small.
Great job.
Great job!
I keep up christmas decor until spring.
Great job
You are amazing! I love watching conquer all the stuff! You got this😃
You are doing so well! Thank you for the motivation.❤❤❤
Always inspiring! Thanks, Ms. Heart! 🥰🎄

Oh you have to show your outside decorations please
I keep my Christmas kitchen stuff in my kitchen all the time like that it can't overflow 😅
I feel like you should have gone through all the bins again, now everything is out. If it's not out, do you need it?
I agree. Everything I didn’t use this year I donated. It wasn’t much, because I do this every year. All my Christmas decor is on display and I have a lot, about 20 storage boxes which are all empty currently

And when mid-January rolls around, you could always bring in fresh tissue paper and newspapers for wrapping things.
