That PCB that Ryan did is pretty cool. As you pointed out, the trace lengths are not all equal, but if you make the longer traces wider than the shorter traces you can equalise the resistance of them so they will all be the same.
Also - "I don't do transitions like that because I'm not a fcuking bender!" - brilliant. 100% brilliant :)
