Thank you very much for the advice. I’ve recently started practicing kickboxing, and I’m doing everything to improve my flexibility. This is one of my most sought after yoga poses, and I figured that if I master this one, others should be much of a problem.
I'm familiar with kickboxing and the stretches they do and how it helps with kicks (and the entire practice). If pigeon is intense, try with a block of pillow under your body. Hang out in the pose for a few mins :)
Had to learn this the hard way... The first option felt great in my glutes, but it reactivated an old LCL injury I had... The latter option is what I do now that I've healed and figured things out over the years...
