And this is the exact way thats detailed in the USG handbook on how to repair a blister but what do I know. Only taught this by old school tapers way back in the day, it’s a great fix. No mud, pull it back, add mud let it soften for a minute or two then wipe it down. All it’s doing is putting mud where there should have been in the first place, its quite simple.

    This works a solid 10% of the time. The other 90% of the time you just come back and there’s another damn bubble. Cut the tape and redo it. It’s worth the extra time

      I'm 18 and work in a separate business can you please explain the tape thing. Like is it mesh tape they use for drywall or something to hold it down? Sorry I'm just curious.

    • @SourdoughVideo
      @SourdoughVideo Год назад +1

      @@douglaspolischuk708 not a drywaller either but I drywalled my whole house. Mesh tape is mainly used for repairs as it reinforces the open spans you might have with a hole. It’s really only meant for quickset mud and doesn’t bond well to regular drywall mud. The tape he is using here is paper joint tape. It’s just a roll of paper with a pre creased line in the center for corners. You apply mud to the joint between each piece of drywall, then you apply the paper tape ( I usually wet my tape a little prior to applying). You press the tape into the mud flush with the wall and it spans the gap to give tensile strength to the joint. Drywall mud doesn’t have much tensile strength and the paper on the joint prevents cracking from natural movement in the house. The problem with the tape is that if you don’t apply it properly and it’s already wetted, you can get airbubbles underneath. It happens to even experienced drywallers on occasion, but it’s nearly impossible to get the air out once it’s dry and it’s best to just restart that tape joint. It’ll save you more head ache down the line.

    I'm going to tell you right now, if you have this scenario, get a sponge soak your paper then do it this guy did. That dry paper is going to suck out any moisture that's in your spackle, and immediately bubble by the next day. Keeping your paper wet allows surface tension to adhere the paper to the patch while it dries and then after it dries it actually sucks the paper into your patch as the water evaporates. Thank me later.

      So being an apprentice you should be learning that mud holds tape, especially paper tape. Not enough mud behind the tape causes air pockets but a very simple fix is to pull back the tape, add mud, let it sit to soften the tape and lie it back down. It’s incredibly simple like most of drywall taping. Works every single time and it’s something I learned back when I was an apprentice from veteran finishers.
