I actually really like the sound on In the Nightside Eclipse, but it's definitely kinda hard to tell what's going on at times with all the reverb. Really sick atmosphere though! I think my favorite sound from them was actually on Wrath of the Tyrant cause they still downtuned their guitars and it all sounded really dark, but I like all their stuff, even Prometheus and IX! Those both had some cool Morbid Angel-ish stuff going on at points, probably Samoth sneaking it in. They're almost more like symphonic death metal albums at points.
Looking through what I bought and still listen to from 2023, 2022 was a better year for my taste in metal. I got Vargrav, Grieve, Gaffed, Goatmoon, Afterbirth, Bloody Cumshøt, Zemeth, Malokarpatan, Torsofuck, Mortuary Drape, Fourth Monarchy, Burshtyn, Grave Pilgrim, Onmyo-za, Lipoma, Wojnar, and Arghoslent. Also a lot of idol trash that only I like from Isiliel, Sari, and Jihyo (don't look those up).
Time to bookmark some Jiub-core to get into the christmas spirit.

Gotta do a background check on every band before I listen to 'em just in case they're involved in anything close to bigotry.

You need to tell all these young MoFos how'd its done. How the underground record labels work, with all the CD trading and how you get your inventory from other distros and so on. In my honest opi: Yes, they were actually one of my first fave 2nd wave BM bands of norway, they or he sings in their language which underlines the term "Norwegian Black Metal" at the core and stayed true to his/their sound to this day. Might sounding like a nerd lmao but look were other bands went throughout their journey like Mayhem, Gorgoroth, darkthrone etc even fvckin zum zum lol.

There hasn't been anything really "original " in Death Metal for over 20 years. 90% of these bands are rehashing the same thing , mostly Incantation for some reason. It's cool for new listeners, but if you've been around for awhile it's repetitive AF.

I like the guitar work on Emperor's Prometheus. Then again, I appreciate Grand Declaration of War's technical/experimental riffing.
Prometheus used to be my favorite Emperor album, because I was more into prog metal, but right now I like the debut the most by far.
Ruim - Black Royal Spiritism is my AOTY, Vargravs The Nighthold is a close second, cannot stop listening to that either.

Wanting to be further appraised on the "scarves" (hip or not), I popped in on Reddit and did some reading and I'm totally stoked to report that the mass-majority of Redditors (including Leave_The_Hall_69) are in complete agreeance that scarves are indeed a great functional fashion choice. Especially the scraves that were made in "fall colors" and woven tight in the herringbone pattern, a classy, timeless, feature that denotes quality old-world craftsmanship.
Also, thanks to Reddit, I have recently been informed that any trve scarf is at least 5 feet in length.

Leave_The_Hall_69 one of the leading voices in scarf wearing for men, agreed that the scarves on men should have a dark color to represent true toughness, and yet he still wears crocs in the summer, so the fellow redditors still call him a canoe.

I do like Emperor’s early stuff, and As the Shadows Rise and the self-titled EP’s are some of my favourite BM releases. They really start to suck with Anthems at Welkins at Dusk.

Tsjuder's chocolate chip cookies are better than moms, and have been around since '95 so you're also wrong on thinking they showed up "too late" for the second wave black metal scene from norway... they have 4 demos and an EP between 95 and 2000... and their debut alb in 2000 is nothing short of greatness in blackmetal... you might be surprised on a revisit.
I love every Emperor album. And love most albums by Dimmu and Cradle. The Dawg is more into obvious melody and catchiness over subtle atmosphere and epicness.

Okay let's bring up an underground band no one cares about, Church of Disgust, their album Weakest Is The Flesh was pretty damn killer, I only heard one song of it and immediately had to order a vinyl of it, and I heard it on this guy Drewcifer's stream, great channel for finding underground stuff that's pretty damn good if you need some.
He's a little more tolerable than the Dawg as well probably for some of you in the back who get your panties in a bunch over Dawg's rants.

The reason no one talks shit about Emperor is because they are one of the greatest metal bands ever. Never put out a bad album imo. In the Nightside Eclipse is in my top 3 black metal albums. The production is perfect imo. It’s meant to be atmospheric and dreamy. If you think the production “sounds like shit” you prolly don’t get black metal.
Got too big a back-log of new Metal (which excludes all Nu Metal) to sift through, so I'll pass on that for now.
Those last two albums are the ones I like.

The new Incantation, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy, Undergang, and Creeping Death albums were all solid releases in 2023.
I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only guys who ripped on Emperor, I just don't like how much of a vegan hippie the guy looks on stage, doesn't have to wear corpsepaint, but put on a damn show at least.
Not to mention their fanbase is deplorable. And I mean as much as they're called legends, I can't stand seeing a yoga instructor on stage.

If i had kids i would listen to metal but all of my friends kids that are grown up or older hate metal because they rebel against their parents. You have to find metal on your own.
I listen to less then 10-20 new albums every year. I did listen to the new Immolation, Incantation ect. The good old bands. But most of the new stuff you check out is a clone of a clone of a clone.

Decibel doesn't put "twinkcore" in their top 40 unless you think hipster metal is twinkcore but its really not the same thing IMO. Im pretty sure they dont cover deathcore and metalcore. They had Jesus Piece and Gel ranked high but thats more hipster hardcore to me, not twinkcore, plus they are only on the list because Im sure they felt they needed some women and POC on there. Of course they had Tomb Mold and Frozen Soul ranked high because those are the cool, hip DM bands.
Never heard Jesus Piece, their name is stupid. Should be Jesus Dead or Jesus Sodomized. Then I would check them out.

If you can't make a top 40 list of metal albums for the year than you don't listen to metal, maybe you listen to one or two sub-genres of metal and only listen to the bands you grew up with and in that case dont even comment on metal cause your not into it brah. I'm 44 and still into it as much as I was as a kid if not more and buy atleast around a 1,000 cd/vinyls a year easily. I could easily make a top 40.

I think I got recommended that chick from the UK's top 40 as well. She did it in 3-4 parts if thats indeed her. She had that Evile album at 40 and that album sucked balls and is basically a horrible imitation of the Black album (Metallica) without the good songwriting the Black album had.
