@Let Your LIGHT Forever Shine ❤️ I liked George's Superman. But sadly he didn't even want to play the part, and back then, the spirit of Superman wasn't quite understood yet totally. I will always love George Reeves Superman! That was like coming from a different time, in a different place.
Donner's direction and Christopher Reeve's portrayal of Superman made the movie believable. Had Donner finished Superman II, it would've been interesting to see what he would've done in Superman III.
+Johnson Waite Ilya Salkind's original version of "Superman III" dealt heavily with introducing Brainiac, the shrunken city of Kandor, and Supergirl. That's the version he personally wanted done, but his father Alexander overrode him.
Superman 2 basically is finished. I get that Donner didnt get to shoot rewrites but those rewrites were only necessary because they put the reversing the earth in 1. Pretend lois never dies in part 1 and Donner 2 is the true conclusion to SUPERMAN the movie.
Yea you kind of hated her harassing Clark to reveal his identity but at the sametime you want him too. I like how she played Lois as persistent also a reporter it worked well together.
Valerie is the friend who left the party early and had to be told about all the drama that happened afterwards. It’s incredibly endearing. Love all of these people.
Jack looks like the kinda guy that gets fed up with being disturbed on a Sunday morning to either fix stuff or borrow his power tools. But will read the same story over and over to his grandkids because they like it...."That guy"!"
I appreciate their honesty. Just because of the tragedies of both Reeve's accident & premature passing, they shouldn't gloss over the truth, & their thoughts & experiences. As an old school liberal, I'm certain that Chris would have felt the same way.
Got a little touched when Val got the full story on the drama behind part 2. When she said "That's why I never came back", you can tell how disappointed she is that she didn't finish the picture.
Sad to see Valerie so diminished and confused here. Someone should have brought her up to speed before this as she really seems out of the loop on her own films.
until this, i had never heard Jack O'Halloran actually speak since he had no lines in superman2. i was a little kid when i saw the first film in the theater and came away with a mega-crush on valerie perine. ms. tessmacher was such a killer babe. sad to see she obviously isn't doing so well as she had noticeable tremors and needed that dog to help her.
I honestly didn't realise he was American. I just figured he had no lines because he had a heavy Irish accent that they thought wouldn't work for the character. But then again, Ursa's voice was dubbed (That wasn't Sarah Douglas speaking-it was actually the girl who played the blonde villainess in Superman 3!)
Supposedly Jack was linked to being in the mafia in his early days and Chris heard about it and told other cast and crew, rumor spreading and Jack found out and went up to Chris and kinda threatened or some words of wisdom to watch his mouth of what he says about him and scared the shit out of Chris and Chris didn’t say anything else to him because he was pretty terrified.
There was so much of Donner's footage still in 2 that Lester's peppering in of comedy still made it work, by 3 it was all Lester and it was much more slapstick. 3 still had a lot of great moments. On a side note, Jack is one unattractive dude.
She honestly wasn't in it much. The first movie was hers more. I mean think about it, after the fortress scene, she basically disappeared from the movie. She probably didn't stay to watch the other actors, so she probably doesn't know much about it. One thing I think a lot of people don't realise is that for people working, it's a job. They're not really fans like spectators are
@@SJHFoto exactly, it's like teachers or those that work in education. Some parents will be obsessed with how their kids are performing in school and expect the teacher and headmaster to have the exact same enthusiasm in their child. But the teacher and head will be busy with 1000 other things and to them it's just a job.
People are so in love with Reeves performance at Superman I think they actually believe he was Superman. Jack didn't seem to get along with Chris cause at times Reeve was a bit aggrogant on set. Donner himself said in a interview that he said to Jack on set that if he was tempted to hit Chris then hit him to the body. Jack was a trained Heavyweight boxer so he was pretty lethal with his fists.
910AM Superstation Funnies I agree it’s great...just one issue, when Superman turns back time so basically none of the events happened ...so the getting revenge on Rocky in the diner scene at the end doesn’t make sense ...that scene was more effective in the Lester version
Does anyone have Superman II: The Richard Donner Version? I love to see Christopher Reeve with Margot Kidder again. I wish that someone would post a full movie here on RUclips online.
If Chris Reeve boycotted and demanded for Donner to finish the movie, the Salkinds would have hired a new Superman upon seeing the success of the first one they would think that the people were after Superman and not Chris Reeve. And nobody knows what would have been the outcome if that scenario happened, we may not have very fond memories of Chris Reeve now....
personal comment There were more unwritten laws followed back then with respect to the film industry. Back then you didn't replace actors in sequels or leave them unfinished and unexplained if there was more to tell. If you did the critics would bash you brutally. As for Superman to date Christopher Reeve still carries the torch. Christopher Reeve should've walked out.
Margot kidder was right when she said Lester was wrong for the material. I don't know his other work but Superman 3 was a complete mess and so lacked the brilliance of 1 and 2.
Maybe Christopher Reeve didn't seem sexual to Margot because he wasn't attracted to her hahahaha He probably rejected her first. And Jack whatever his name is seems like he's jealous of Christopher Reeve. How can he blame Chris for what happened to Donner ? He was an actor in the movie also with pivotal scenes. Why didnt he stand up and boycott it ?
I actually enjoyed listening to Jack and Kidder trash Reeves that was hysterical. Especially when he said he had the brain of a 16 year old, which I 100% believe and agree with. Reeve was a little prick and I commend them for telling the truth about it.
I think it was kind of cold of Jack to dis Chris, I mean he shouldn't have said he should have boycotted and walked away, what gives him the right to say that! Really heartless.
Moviefan2k4 sadly she has Parkinson’s. Many people with Parkinson’s can still remember and think (so not quite like dementia) but the way they speak is often slowed down and the involuntary muscle twitches
Bullshit you did. Donner and Kidder really need to shut the fuck up about this Donner cut vs. the Theatrical "Lester cut". The Donner cut was absolute shit no matter how you spin it, so what they are saying about it is a lie. Kidder really needs to stfu, you can see the way the crowd apathetically reacted to her notion"the Donner cut was better". How embarrassing. Time has not been kind to the Chris Reeve Superman series anyhow. The effects are dated and total shit by late 1980's standards. Let just bury this miserable bitch of a film serious and call it a day. Just my 2 cents.
YouGotJEWD You are obviously a troll because no-one with the intelligence of a common dog would EVER think that the Lester theatrical release version is better than the Richard Donner cut. Since part 2 was supposed to be a continuation of the story from part 1, the Donner cut follows thru with it. The Lester cut is shit and an embarrassment to the film series. (More so than parts 3 and 4) And for your info, the Richard Donner Superman is the gold standard that even the modern films look to for inspiration. Here's your two cents back.
@@brendancaldwell7755 If two principal actors got into it, both would be wrote up and fined by the production manager because anything that jeopardizes production like that would not be tolerated and they know it. The on set union steward would be right there. Thats why they ALMOST came to blows.
Richard Lester was much more of a comedic director! I guess maybe so many years of watching the Lester version made me a little ambivalent to the Donner cut when it came out! For instance I loved the Eiffel Tower bomb threat scene but yeah maybe it would have been better if Chris Reeve would have stood up and demanded Donner to be rehired! Well never know!

Thank you. It was at PopConLA / ITVFest at the LA Convention Center.
When was this shot?
Although I'll say it's kinda funny how the actor who had no actual lines in the film does the majority of the talking here lol.

Very cool thankyou for posting this

Ursa (Sarah Douglas) is still the hottest villain EVER!

Got That Right!!!!
Definitely!🔥😍
It all movie history now....as we are witnessing now.
Non can talk?
One of the effects of being in the molecule chamber is Non developed the ability to speak.
Funny thing is Jack O' Halloran reminds me of Michael Shannon!
I see it.never would've if you didn't mention it

I agree with Jack, and also Sarah, that Christopher WAS superman and so far, the best one in any incarnation of it. :)
It's amazing that brain can generate enough power to keep those legs moving

Good post!
Such a shame about Valerie.... I thought she was real hot in Superman.
She was great as Lenny Bruce's wife in Lenny.

Not the worst thing he's ever said about him.
Who is the crazy lady with the dog!?
But didnt Jack O hollaran come back to 2 with Lester?
I agree with him it's tragic
Why didn't he decide not to come back? Why put all the pressure on Christopher Reeve? Sounds like a hypocrite.
