Battery Trolleybuses and Transit Priority in Zurich

- Zurich, Switzerland is aiming to have 100% electric buses by 2030, and already has many double articulated battery trolleybuses that can carry 180 people. Bus lanes and signal priority mean that transit riders are seldom delayed by traffic. Zurich's experience provides lessons that can be applied in any city's climate emergency response. My article in the National Observer www.nationalob... and a longer article in The Independent www.independen... have more information on electric buses and transit priority.
I also strongly recommend Streetfilms.org’s excellent video “Zurich a world class transit metropolis”. streetfilms.org/zurich-a-world-class-transit-metropolis

Thanks, this is very much interesting information. Zurich transport system is awesome.
wait they make trolleybuses with poles that can be moved without getting out of the bus??? That is rad bc in Seattle if the poles come off the wires or if the buses have to reroute, the driver has to stop the bus, get out, and manually put them back up
Yep. And the same company makes the equipment for both. Would be easy to upgrade the Seattle buses and add 'rooftops' to the wires at selected stops. (Seattle's battery trolleybuses have decent battery range for running off wire).
Thanks! It's a great video!
Modest size. As a Swiss citizen, I can say that Zürich is the biggest city and it's far from modest. :) Hopp Schwiiz! :)
Great place in so many ways. Would be great to see more immodest bragging about Swiss public transit. We need more Swiss people shouting 'That's not REAL transit signal priority, WE INVENTED transit signal priority - come see how it is supposed to work!'
We need those trolleys in London !
A long time ago we used to have a giant trolley bus network... Then we got rid of it

@@roboko6618 How is your opinion about this? Was this right decision or not?
Hello, I work in the field of driving a big bus. I travel long distances. I have enough experience in this field. I would like to work. Thank you

Imagine how hard it is to drive those double articulated trolleybus
My understanding is that the first generation were tricky to drive, but that the new ones track really well are not much harder than a standard bus.
