I've had a bunch of great classics- a 61 Porsche 356B, a 62 fuelie Vette, a 63 Avanti, a 55 Austin-Healey 100... but this is my dream car.
3:24 - don't need to worry about the car overheating. . . . .yeah, see what happens when the fan belt comes off the idler pulley at high rpms. Not a knock, just a vulnerability. We had a yellow 65 Corvair convertible - 140HP Monza - in our family for over 17 years. My dad and I rebuilt the engine and dropped in a 4 speed to replace the slushy powerglide auto trans. I knew the car from front to back
I know and thanks for knowing the truth. I posted that for somebody bashing the Vair on that ridiculous book, so I left a question and waited for a response. I was ready to take them to school. I have had several Corvairs, autcrossed, raced, been well over a hundred many times and they are fabulous cars!! Restoring a 66 Corsa 140 right now!
I had a 66 Corsa convertible, 140hp (the 4 carbs take patience, the right tool and a good ear to synchronize). ;-)
In a auto magazine there was a 2nd gen (yr?) Coupe with a Tornado engine/transaxle mounted "behind" the rear seat.
After seeing that I thought, instead of the Tornado drivetrain mount a transverse V6 behind the rear seat of a 1966
convertible and make it look as stock as possible except it would have two trunks and a custom roll bar (phase one). ;-)
Not to mention the window vents as well as the floor vents (if I remember correctly). These are feature that, if you ever drove a car with them you would miss in a newer car without them. I believe that there is also a rear heater vent also.
Yeah, I just rescued a 1965 Corvair Convertable from going to 'scrap'. The body is intact, some aftermarket seats and hacked dashboard, but I'm looking forward to having a cool car to drive in the "Woodward Dream Cruise" and the occasional trip.

An incredibly cool event held every August in Detroit. I was there this year.
I had one just like this one and had it up to 110 MPH on a new section of Interstate highway - no shakes, no shimmy, just rock solid ride. I also suprised a few Nova Super Sports with how quick my car was. If I could afford it, I be there tomorrow to bring it home.
The Cylinder head temperature gauge will buzz loudly if it does overheat. The only time mine buzzed was near the top of Pikes Peak. Mine was a 1964 Turbo Spyder.
This was the color paint I had on my first Corvair Daddy and Debbie had a turquoise
My dad was the corvair mechanic in Pensacola...
Got to do your research ... The car and its motor was out 'BEFORE' the Porsche 911. In fact Porsche bought 3 of these back in the day to study the motor. If you ever see the two motors out side by side, like we do in our shop, and they look like brothers. Corvair engines got a bad rap because the push rod seals would fail and leak if the owner didn't maintain the oil. Dirty oil plugged the oil cooler which in turn cooked the seals. Check it out on RUclips...these engines have been a favorite for private planes for years. Fly Corvair...60 years later they are flying!

O rings would split due to the high engine temp. New ones from Clark’s is an easy fix.
to clear things up alittle the corvair was made in three series, the 700, monza, and corsa. the corsa came standard with a 4 speed transmission and a 140 hp motor. a 180 hp turbocharged motor was optional. this corvair has the telescoping steering wheel wich is pretty rare, and sell for about a grand by themselfs. 1965 was one of the biggest years for corvair, wich makes this car not so rare. hovever this is still a nice car in lemonwood yellow and should sell for between 13,000 and 17,000thanks
Car sounds great! don't forget the corvette Telescopic steering!
Remember that the Camaro's suspension was basaed on the Chevy II, and it handled pretty much the same. The Vair had 4 wheel independent suspension, Corvette rear suspension, Chevelle brakes, all contributing to handling that had no peer in the US in the Sixties. This car has the rare telescopic steering column. Corvairs are THE bargain collectible of the Sixties.
Very Impressive restoration Tony! And a great price you have it at. Someone spent a lot more money to have this car restored not including labor which I know is love. Well worth $15K
Wish I had bought it back in '12
My first car was a 65 turbo Corsa 180hp. 4 speed.
That it was written by a lawyer, who went on to make a career out of half truths If he knew anything about cars he never would have written the book. A subsequent study proved that the Corvair was very safe at every speed!

The fact that recommended tire pressure that varied from front to rear did cause handling problems in early model years. So many owners were completely unaware of this difference.
every time i see a corvair i regret not keeping my 65 corsa covert. dark green, white top, black interior, four speed. 100 mph was easy for that car. cornered like a snake in a rat hole. she was my baby...wish there was some way i could track her down.
Very Nice Corvair , but there was No " Race " or " Sports " Version ! The Turbo was what I'd personally call a " Sports " version
I need to get my 65 Corsa Convertible on the road
What a beauty.
Actually the cheapest model from 1965 on was the 500, not the 700. The 700 was made from 1960-64.
wish I had the telescoping steering and wheel...

Mine had one. My favorite car ever totaled in a terrible wreck in Ohio.
I wonder how much my unrestored 1966 Corvair Corsa 180 Turbo vert is worth. They only made 585 of them, and I am the second owner...
dzappss1 quite a lot, im sure !!
A turbo convertible is pretty rare !!
$4,000
A lot more than it was 4 years ago when you posted..nice examples are pushing $30K now if you can even find one.
It's a keeper.
The tires look one size too big.......??? Like they r 195/65/14 instead of 185/70/14??????
Run the VIN at the dmv. I tracked my trans am down that way.
No worth discussions? What do different CV's sell for? Neat car to drive...
Oooops... you tried to unlock the rear HOOD with the trunk key... and the lite in back is for the license plate... and headlamp access is NOT from the FRONT TRUNK, they're accessed from the exterior. Still a nice car... That's the most important. How're the rockers and door hinge pillars? A BAD rust area for late converts...Thx fer sharing -:)))
very interested, if still available!
Soooo, how much is it? $$$$
I love the Corvair. Such a cool car. But Ralph Nater didn't like it?......
david carroll
Ralph was actually the guest speaker one year when the national convention was in Washington, D.C.
ok the base eng was the 140 ..cost more for the 180 in the corsa that how it was
Base engine was 110 hp, corsa engine was 140 hp, turbo engine was 180 hp.
What do you know about unsafe at any speed?
Noel I know Ralph didn't include the 65 and newer as the dangerous ones. Read the book.
shouldn't it have the 180 turbocharger to be a corsa?
No
Resurrect the 65' Corvair
Are these small 8s or sixes?
Flat 6.
love all my corvairs easy to keep going
I love my corvairs. Terrific cars. Nader can SUCK IT. He was WRONG.
Je voudrais voir une vidéo du steering wheel
Are you related to Ralph Nader naysayer?
140 HP? Maybe it's the Corvair "Hellcat" LOL!
Doesn't anyone have a 4bbl conversion with a "spider" manifold, as was available in the '70s? Not having to balance four individual carbs would seem to be reason enough.
a company called IECO made such a conversion kit. we tried it on our Corvair. performance was great but mileage suffered.
If tou are serious about selling cars with video buy 0r even rent some lights and make it look good. The dashboard in the dark doesn't do anything for me.
New westerns
Dude sounds like a used car salesman.
