For me Renton dancing at the end instead of falling to the floor is a symbol of how he finally makes peace with his life, just as it is, instead of always wondering if there is something better or more intense elsewhere... that is what real freedom is about and to me, that's why the room ends up expanding forever... such a poetic ending.

This is possibly the first attempt I've seen at revisiting a classic whether through sequel/reboot/remake/prequel that is actually about nostalgia. The movie doesn't just make lame attempts at fan service like in other recent movies from classic series (rogue one, jurassic world, terminator genisys). It actually has a point to make about nostalgia. Its about learning from the past while simultaneously embracing and letting go of it. Renton, sick boy, and spud are all able to do this which is why their lives improve on some level by the end of the movie while Begbie isn't resulting in him going back to jail. Ian Levinson Begbie does go to jail but he does redeem himself in a major way, he redeems himself in the eyes of the only person who matters, his son and tells him he will be a good man regardless of his roots. Deepest scene of this film

I feel one of the underappreciated bits of symbolism is the dance at the end. Renton is back where he started physically, yes. He imitates the pose from Trainspotting with the long pull back. But with one major difference. In the past he fell to his knees. Now he picks back of and dances. He can experience these memories without being dragged down. Pretty decent (anti)hero's journey!
This ending is perfect. Simon is completely broken and is sad at where he is. There seems to be some hope for Spud as Gail is actually talking to him and letting him see his son. The glimpses to the past are so emotional to see, damn this movie was so sad and moving
Excellent sequel !didnt disappoint,.I am part off the trainspotting generation, myself and many off my friends still suffer from the consequences off long term opiate abuse,i find Rentons updated "choose life"scene painfully close to home.
Probably the greatest sequel I've seen to a film in recent years. And that ending DAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMNNNNN
in the end they chose television, chose job, chose family. Deep
Its the way she says i got a title and gives spud hope
Btw, the song is Silk - Wolf alice
The ending was best seen in any film ''whos gonna read them ''nobody that's the problem!!
This is nostalgia.
The best and only good sequel ever made... besides airplane 2...
this is actually strangely true
Both the endings, there is joy for Spud.
Just amazing. Simply amazing. I love when renton officially returns home. Music is perfect. The perfect example of how sequels can work. Choose life
Theres a fair few similarities
A sequel that is as good as the original. Fantastic film.
Little hidden thing there anyone else notice the wall paper was pictures of trains and has been every since the first trainspotting
well aren't you a genius
Lol not exactly a hidden little thing dumbass. Pretty obvious isn't it??
Blood. Mixing wi' pish
You've got hidden talents Murphy.
Chorei tanto ao final do filme. Fui a última a sair do cinema, não conseguia me levantar. Eu queria ficar ali quieta chorando. Foi um misto de dor e redenção. Final incrivelmente poético. Danny Boyle é Deus!
