Fun fact: In the original version of this story the teddy bear was actually the villain and it was going to be a story about it luring the kid into his world. It your typical story about an obviously evil entity luring an innocent soul into its trap to be sacrificed which if memory serves he actually succeeded in doing in the original story, but yeah it sounds a lot more cliched than what the story we actually got so it’s good they took it in a better direction. Some of creepy aspects of his character were somewhat left in the game, but they adjusted his overall role and personality to make it clear this version isn’t bad.
There's even a theory that Teddy is a representation of the dad and the last monster is the mum taking the toy away because she was angry that the kid was playing with her ex husband's gift
@@JaeChanArtzI’m sorry to be this kind of guy, but the mom at the beginning chose to give Teddy to her son. So why would she start trying to take it away from her son?
@CatBreadOfficial She was hiding her true feelings when in front of her son. She's an alcoholic and had a very strained relationship with her ex-husband. When she's drunk, she becomes angry and aggressive. That's what the monsters the kid is seeing represent. The trench-coat monster taking Teddy away is the mother in a drunk state. That's why we see her with Teddy at the end of the game. She took it aanger and resentment since it's a gift from her ex-husband, and she wasn't happy that her son was enjoying playing with it.
Amen to that. I was in my early 30’s when this game came out, but loved the story and how the developers presented things the way a baby would see them.
This honestly almost made me cry… the memories and messages in this game Is just all so similar to my childhood and it kind of hurts me watching Ryan play this as it reminds me of my own childhood every time, atleast Ryan’s uploaded and it’s something for me to be happy about.

@theeverythingaccount1918 agree, its just.. what every horror game needs, but not every horror game, that's just my opinion. Its depressing and sad tho but it's my favorite either way.
This game breaks my heart. That’s why i think it’s so, so important to treat little children with extra gentleness, kindness and patience, especially when they act up or misbehave. We don’t know what’s going on in their heads, or how they are being raised/treated at home. I’m glad you got to the good ending, where dad comes back ❤
Always wanted a sequel to this game obviously not with the same kid cause that would be hard but the tension and the scares and story the developers put into this game is one of those games where everyone should experience once
Absolutely agree. This story is so good and it deserves to be remembered and remade or something. It's always the dad who is in purgatory and he's killed his family, but a grounded story like this that does an unbelievably good job of showing things that look scary in the dark just being normal things, better than most games I've seen ever do it, I just want more good stories like this that I think end well with dad taking his baby safely away.
MASSIVE SPOILERS!! (Info on lore) If the story still isn't really clear to anyone I'll put it simply: In the prologue the story tells of the issues the mother and father (the parents of the player) had to deal with. The father was a work addict and the mother felt unloved since all he would do is sit in an office all day, work and smoke a pipe. Soon enough the mother moved out after multiple argument with the father which leads on to the main story/game. The mother started relying on alcohol as a coping mechanism to help deal with the anger and sadness she had. Each monster seen in the game displays the mother when she's drunk or when she's angry. Each of the states also displays the house through a childs view. Also, the teddy sounds a lot like the father which can show that the toddler possibly looks at teddy as if he was a parental figure. Idk if I missed anything out since I haven't played this in a while but I suggest looking at Superhorrorbro's channel for a full review in the game lore. In short the game is about seeing the world through a toddlers perspective but it isn't all rainbows and sunshine.
there are also hints that the mom is also abusive towards the baby. it hurts to see that the baby still went to the mom for protection from the monster, like no matter how bad she was she was his safe space
I hope to be the best damn mom my son can have cause I know their are kids in this experiance currently. I wish I could help them all but sadly I am but 1 person and adoption agencies dont make it easy when it comes to the financial aspects of it. Overall though I love this game.
Glad to see people not forgetting this awesome game because the story line and ending was stuck in my head for a while when youtubers was playing this game
1:21:49 I like this ending. The kid saw his mom as a monster when she drank, the teddy who guided him through, helped him cope, was his dad, who he made into the teddy he got for him. Maybe the Mom and Dad argued, the dad left but wanted to go on good terms, and decided to give his kid a gift, and the mom didn’t want to see the dad. The mom still gives the kid the gift, and the kid knows it’s from his dad, so he makes his dad the teddy bear. Yeah nothing more I can say. Great story, get metaphorical story or whatnot. And yeah Ryan, I think the Mom gets help, cause in the DLC kr whatever, we get picked up and taken away by the mom, seemingly maybe from the dad. Maybe the dad started drinking, and the mom went to rehab and got better? Good game about the average divorce but from the kids perspective. Love it. And I love you Ryan.
Originally watched Delirious play this about 7-8 years ago. This really triggered some nostalgia and old memories from the past. Thanks for replaying this ryan.
as soon as I saw the thumbnail, I genuinely was shocked since its been a looong time that I've watched people play this game. This game is absolutely beautiful and yet, sad knowing the story behind it
I watched the first playthrough as it was being posted. Rewatched it a few months back, and I am excited to watch it again now! Great game! Thanks for coming back to it, Ryan!
An absolute amazing story imo, I love games that spread awareness of childhood traumas and the struggle of developing like anxiety from it. This one I will never forget!
I LOVE when Ryan posts more unedited videos and longer ones too. They just have this vibe where I’m actually in the room with him and watching him play horror as we both literally scream at the scary parts. Another great video, good job Ryan!
This is such an underrated and forgotten game.. I love this game so much, especially the lore. I love the fact that you don’t really have to figure out the lore that much, the game just shows you it
Wow. Seeing this on my feed brought back lots of old memories, I haven’t heard anything about this game in years. I remember watching several full play-throughs of this game and it makes me happy seeing Ryan give this game a go.
Thank you so much ryan, ive been searching for this game for at least 4-5 years now, i saw another youtuber play it when i was younger, and for the last few years i could remember what the game was called and the only thing i remembered was the place u are at 24:20. Finally found this goddamn game after so long
1:21:23 when Ryan said, "..it was making my eyes well up..", my eyes that were already welled up and was absolute brimming with tears just spilled and I let out the most wet ahh sob that has ever sobbed (I was sick and had phlegm not fun). As a family that had been broken up because of an abusive, alcoholic and drug-addicted man, this game never failed to soak me with my own tears. Edit: Trigger warnings (abuse, domestic abuse, violence, descriptions of abuse aftermath, etc.) and also a very emotionally-intense and trauma-riddled vent. You have been warned. Whenever I massaged my mom, I always had to see the amount of scars he had put upon my mother. Old yet nasty-looking, bumpy and pale bites and scars spread unevenly across her back, arms, legs, torso and he didn't even have the phucking decency to spare the chest. My mother had spent years being insecure about wearing revealing clothing and every single thing about that situation saddens yet fuels my determination to never associate myself with that man or or other similar human of his caliber ever. Even if she said he was a good father but a bad husband and he loves me so, I would never forgive the fact that he had hurt our chances of being a happy family and hurt my mom just because he ""wasn't himself"" and that he would change and that he would never hurt her again. And I hope to everything in me that my drinking problem never gets to that point either to the point that my inebriated self lays a hand or spits out venom at my own loved ones. That I will never turn out like him. For anyone who has gotten this far, I thank you and I commend you for taking the time to even read all of that. This game just does something to me mentally man, but it is healing in a way for me to see my and other's situations in such a 3rd perspective. No one really truly understands or sees that the people who are close to those people who are coping, struggling, or dealing with mental strain are also heavily affected too. Not unless, they have experienced it for themselves though I do not wish that for anyone. Then again, that, "no one understands until they have it" thing is applicable to other situations too in a broader sense so eh- Writing this really made me feel lighter. I hope other people have the luxury of feeling the same too. Sending love from someone who is willing to listen.
49:15 I bet you the tripple thumping is the father knocking on the door, either the front door or maybe a bedroom door maybe while the mother was drinking or something and he was trying to convince her to stop.
It’s unfortunate there were some things ya missed out on. One namely being consoling mom at the end of the game. After she pushes you away, if you go back to her, it gives the option to console her. You still get the same ending as it’s just a little extra option.
I got introduced to this channel because of Among the Sleep: I was so enthralled by the story because it hit home for me, so I found every video I could on it, and that's how I stumbled onto Ryan's channel thankfully in all this time, I can say my mom has gotten better ❤
Man it's been 8 years since this game got me as a mother and scared the hell out of me. No one ever talks about this game it's nice to see it recently played. The screen shaking when the parents are arguing at the door and the dad then being the teddy's voice. This game really did something different and deep, it needs a remaster or something. I bought it for the ps4 years ago and crawling made me fall through the floor and get stuck so we couldn't play it 😢 I remember how scared I was when they go into the closet and teddy said "I hope there's nothing else in here" or something to that effect and I'm like WHY WOULD YOU SAY That! It's nice to see a baby being taken safely home with his dad and mom being the one troubled instead of the constant alcoholic dad in purgatory who can't remember killing his wife and/or kids. This story is heartbreaking but it makes me happy that dad steps in and mom finally let's him.
YOOOOO the nostalgia is insaneeee. I remember I used to watch game play on this game as a kid and I was obsessed with it. Didn't except to see Ryan play it (after so many years too)
I'm not here to tell anyone how to run their successful youtube channels, and I know views and likes are a factor, but I always wonder why more youtubers don't do this. Replaying old games seems like easy content that gets fresh eyes on some of our favorite games on our favorite channels. Too often have I looked at Ryan's channel for example and watched him play Alien Isolation or something he played like 10 years ago and wished to see him bring it back and show it to new viewers with better knowledge on editing and his sense of self. I don't know about other people, but I watch let's plays for games I otherwise wouldn't even pick up cause they aren't my cup of tea. It reminds me of hanging with at your friends house when you were a kid. Where you could experience new games and stories without having to spend your own money right away and decide if you want to give them a try yourself, but also just having fun seeing their reactions and experiencing that story together.
I kinda see the game as a mirror of real life when kids that don't have developed minds that are not understanding the problems of life like alcoholic parents they might see the time when there drunk as monsters replacing the moment by a nightmare.....
Among the sleep is such a beautifull and nostalgic MASTERPIECE. The atmosphere and the colors are just ***like a dream*** and shows us how the protagonist sees the world as a dream and A NIGHTMARE. The creatures in David's mind shows us that he sees his abusive mother as A MONSTER (which she is) which is so GOOD written. Speaking of writting, the characters are so well written. I hope Krillbite Studios might make a sequel or a sequel-prequel (which may take before or after DLC) to this spectacular game. edit 1.: I recommend you to play DLC of this game to complete the lore.
What’s funny is that I LITERALLY just watched Ryan’s old play through of this game, then I watched Cory’s. It’s so awesome to see him come back to it! This was such an incredible experience.
this feels like an early release version of the game. I thought Teddy's arm was for a button press. Also this kid's head going through walls the whole time 😂
I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed this! I remember watching Markiplier's playthrough and he used Teddy's arm to push a tiny button under the door.
Omg I loveee this game. The meaning is so deep and real and the pov the game makes you play shows how terrifying it looks to children but in an artistic way 💜
since you revisited this game which was a amazing game i remembered as a kid is there any chance of you coming back to games like frann bow which is another old amazing horror game? if not that game id love to see you revisit a lot of the old horor games in this same longer less edited fashion. anyways hope you have an amazing day ryan!
I was six years old when the game releases, I watched many youtubers played it but I was half clueless about what the story is about. Now, I get to watch 8 bit ryan play this game again after 8 more years, and I understand everything now
It’s weird to hear Ryan talk about “Teddy” because I have a teddy bear that i still have and call teddy because I guess I just heard Teddy as a baby instead of Teddy BEAR..

I loved this game so much back so long ago. Seeing Ryan play this is very nostalgic for me. Thanks Ryan!
YOOOOO the nostalgia is insaneeee.
I remember I used to watch game play on this game as a kid and I was obsessed with it.
Didn't except to see Ryan play it (after so many years too)
Only real fans watched Ryan’s original series
Yup I did XD I guess he forgot
I read this as Real Onlyfans
Ryan the Ryan is real!!!
@@zepplinkiwigamer8217you aren't alone
Yes I do
I'm not here to tell anyone how to run their successful youtube channels, and I know views and likes are a factor, but I always wonder why more youtubers don't do this.
This game came out like 6-7 years ago but I still never saw the whole game, nothing better than watching my favorite RUclipsr play it
I remember liking this game so much even tho it terrified me when I was younger tbh
This game brings me back so many memories and hearing about something of a lore too. But, this game is honestly my favorite Horror game and still is.
ah yes, the best experience ever. a sunday night watching 8-bit Ryan with a hot chocolate and my bonnie plush. perfection!
I kinda see the game as a mirror of real life when kids that don't have developed minds that are not understanding the problems of life like alcoholic parents they might see the time when there drunk as monsters replacing the moment by a nightmare.....
BROOO I remember messyourself playing this, thank you for bringing attention to this masterpiece mate
oh my days havent heard that name in a WHILE
i’m getting so much nostalgia from this gameplay. This is one of the best horror games i’ve ever played
I forgot about this game! Such a classic
What’s funny is that I LITERALLY just watched Ryan’s old play through of this game, then I watched Cory’s. It’s so awesome to see him come back to it! This was such an incredible experience.
YESSS! i saw tdm play this game years ago and always thought it was forgotten. Glad to see it still has fans and players to this day
YO THIS GAME.
I loved it when it first came out
Man I remember when Mark played this many years ago. The nostalgia is crazy.
DanTDM also did a playthrough of this I remember.
this feels like an early release version of the game. I thought Teddy's arm was for a button press. Also this kid's head going through walls the whole time 😂
I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed this! I remember watching Markiplier's playthrough and he used Teddy's arm to push a tiny button under the door.
Just opened the floodgates of my memory sir. Goosebumps. Thank you sir
Ive had a FAINT memory of this game and ryan brought it to light. Thank you for bringing this memory back, genuinely this is unreal
Omg I loveee this game. The meaning is so deep and real and the pov the game makes you play shows how terrifying it looks to children but in an artistic way 💜
Blud is playing my childhood
OH MY GOD THE MEMORIES. I remember watching ryan play this game. I rewatched his series over 4 times T-T
This brings me back. I remember watching Ryan play this back a few years ago. I'm happy to watch the new view on the story.
I never played the game, but I have a core memory of watching your playthrough 6 years ago
this is such a good memory seeing ryan play this game again
i'm glad Ryan played this game again! has always been one of my favorites. glad that it's just as psychologically terrifying as it was back then. 💙💫
God, I remember watching cory play this YEARS ago, good lord.
Cant watch this tonight because im so tired its 1:35 but i will watch it tomorrow :)
since you revisited this game which was a amazing game i remembered as a kid is there any chance of you coming back to games like frann bow which is another old amazing horror game? if not that game id love to see you revisit a lot of the old horor games in this same longer less edited fashion. anyways hope you have an amazing day ryan!
*Oh my god.*
*This is SO much nostalgia!*
Also who else wants Ryan to replay a bunch of classic horror
that's crazy that it's been 6 YEARS since you first played this... that means i was 16 watching you and now i'm 22 😅 time has really flown by
22:19 OMG THIS REMINDS ME OF A MOVIE
What movie
I was six years old when the game releases, I watched many youtubers played it but I was half clueless about what the story is about. Now, I get to watch 8 bit ryan play this game again after 8 more years, and I understand everything now
0:29 100% agree, I stand by this statement. When I was a kid I had a nightmare abt a deer in my room and I haven't forgotten it SINCE
This right brings back memories
Glad he went back to our childhood game that we all got scared watching, it brings me back to the amazing journey from 2014-2019
this was such a beautiful game, i almost forgot about it. thank you for playing it again ryan!
21:39 💀 The baby is too dummy thicc
It’s weird to hear Ryan talk about “Teddy” because I have a teddy bear that i still have and call teddy because I guess I just heard Teddy as a baby instead of Teddy BEAR..
