Stephen King once wrote a story about the invention of teleportation, called The Jaunt. It worked perfectly, except that when they test it on mice, they come out the other side catatonic and/or crazed. They learn that living things can only survive going through if they're unconscious. Many years later, a young boy wants to learn what it's like to go through awake, so he fakes taking the sedative. It turns out that while teleportation seems instant to everyone on the outside, for anyone going through the portal awake, it seems like eternity. Their mind is awake in a featureless void for thousands of years, driving them insane.
    Now that's horror. :)

If anyone is wondering what happened to the second baboon it was explained in a deleted reel of the film. After learning he and the fly were bonded at the molecular-genetic level, he wanted to see what would happen if he repeated the process with two other living creatures. He put the other baboon and a housecat in one telepod and merged them in the other. The result was a wild baboon-cat hybrid that instantly attacked him. He then proceeded to beat it to death with a crowbar. Test audiences hated this scene and lost all sympathy for the character, so it was removed. It's unfortunate because Goldblum's make-up was great; he still looked human, but you could clearly see the fly DNA starting to take hold. The scene was included on special edition DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

The Simpsons episode references the original _The Fly_ from 1958. In that one the scientist comes out of the machine with a giant fly head, and the fly comes out with a tiny human head. It's a classic of 1950s Sci-Fi horror. The 1986 remake is superior, partly because of the higher special effects budget but mostly because of a superior script.
During filming of _The Fly_ Goldblum and Davis became romantically involved. They married in 1987, and divorced in 1991.

"Flies are dicks" - you're too much - LMAO. One of the 3 greatest '80s remakes of a '50s sci-fi horror film including THE BLOB & THE THING. Goldblum s/gotten an Oscar nod. He & Davis fell in love and was married (briefly) after their 2nd time co-starring in a film (they previously met in the sci-fi comedy EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY). The original is so worth seeing too. David Cronenberg (who cameos as the doctor in the nightmare sequence) directed this while his mom was dying of cancer so this was truly a personal endeavor for him (and arguably his best film - and best body horror venture too). The film is also a parable for the AIDS epidemic that was in full swing during the production in the '80s (seeing someone slowly dying of an incurable disease and eventually being unrecognizable physically; truly tragic). The amazing and truly jaw-droppingly disgusting make-up f/x won Chris Walas (who also did GREMLINS) an Oscar for his outstanding work. Produced by Mel Brooks too. BTW John Getz who plays the sleazy ex/editor and redemptive hero just had a birthday (his 78th) on the 15th :D

This is one of many big 80s horror remakes of 50s movies. Theres also a 90s movie called "Matinee" with John Goodman that spoofs the original Fly in a movie-within-a-movie called "MANT!"

Earth Girls are Easy was also a Davis/ Goldblum pairing. They were married for a while there.
Independence Day, Jurassic Park 2, Vibes, opposite Cyndi Lauper, Into the Night, ( or new noir and the insomniac), the list goes on and on.
For most of his career he's done mostly projects he enjoys. One stylized classic noir gang film Mad Dog Time was with Richard Dreyfuss playing a gangster head just released from confinement, reasserting his dominance. Just a lot of good stuff.

You are correct. Even when photons or small bits of matter are teleported today, the original is destroyed and a quantum copy is created.
The matter doesn’t move, but the information does.

the Fly 2 is a pretty worthy sequel. super gory and lots of fun. your also pretty spot on about throwing the other guy in the telapod to dilute the fly.

Yes, there's a sequel where you can find out what happened to the baby. Nobody ever does a reaction to it but it's definitely worth a watch.

It is a great movie IMO. The special effects still hold up. He is horrifying at the end. Goldblum and Davis do such a good job in it as well.
