I used to work for Peruto and remember him telling me about what he was looking to do as him and his guys were building his car for SSC. He passed away a few years ago, unfortunately, but I still tell stories about hearing as his car was coming together and how much he wanted to compete against Big Red.
My brother passed away and I inherited his 69. It's been sitting in my dad's building for about 2 decades. Needs a lot of work. I want to get that car back on the road. ....needless to say 69 camaros been my favorite muscle car. Remember Big Red in the car magazines when he won the Silver State Classic.
The longer you wait, the more expensive it will get, and the less likely it will be that you start the process. You gotta just dive in. I truly miss our red 69. Financial problems forced the sale of it. We'll never get another, that is about certain.
@@toddburgess6792 Hate to hear you had to part ways with the 69. Especially against your will. I've got headwinds as far as time. Aging parents and my son's wife just passed of cancer as well leaving my son with 3 little ones. But my son loves that car too. I think it will make a damn good father/son project. Just have to make some time somehow. ...not to mention the 2 old John Deeres that have to move to get to the Camaro. lol!
@@nobodynothing9950 My son and I together have built three 1990s turbocharged Toyotas, our particular favorite era, and you can’t beat it for father/son bonding. The guy above was right, just jump in there and start doing it! Sanding rust and repainting the undercarriage costs almost nothing and will give you the motivation you need to start restoring the braking system next and so on… Good luck to you, sir, a 1969 Camaro is too fine an automobile to waste another two decades in storage.
Reading about Big Red setting the record decades ago made me want to do the SSCC. I eventually ran it 4 times with a modified 911, coming in 3rd in my class the last time. Thanks Big Red for introducing me to the sport. Running the challenge was some of the happiest days of my life. BTW, the NASCAR car that holds the record now should be disqualified. It's supposed to modified street cars, not a NASCAR car with a fake body on it. As far as I'm concerned, Big Red still holds the record.
very nice. Big Red is the King of Camaros in my opinion

This video was made prob 20 years ago, but got me started in ORR!
One beautiful, well engineered monster!!!
the last year of beautiful body styling
72 Cuda
You can’t win the argument the second Gen isn’t really great looking too!
I wish that there were more states where you could do that!
What was the smoke we saw in the video?
Jimmy was on a tear that day and would have set a new record that day. Red flag was called just as Big Red Camaro was in sight of the finish line.
220 in a brick!
well. who wrecked
All hail the big red #1
