Zoe has always dreamed of being on Cali SMOED! So much so that when she met Coaches Eddie and Orby when she was a little girl, she got a photo with them and told her mom one day she would be on the team! This wasn't an easy task for Zoe. She deals with a sensory disorder which makes listening to loud cheer music difficult. It also affects her ability to make friends. However, since she's fallen in love with cheerleading it has helped her both socially and mentally. Zoe works hard to stay in cheerleading, working with her mom at her hair salon braiding hair to help pay for her cheer passion. She's a unique and special girl whose love of cheerleading is going to help take her far!

My son was similar as a baby. He had a blanket for comfort. He didn't like to be held a lot. He wanted to be in his crib with his blanket. He wouldn't sleep anywhere else. He also has a sensory disorder and is extremely socially awkward, and has a lot of anxiety. He is 19 now and has grown into a young man who knows that he marches to the beat of his own drum and is secure and unapologetic about it. He doesn't have a wide circle of friends, but he has definitely found his tribe. As a mom I sometimes feel sad that he chose not to participate in high school dances, didn't go to prom, had no desire to go. His older sister was in competitive cheer but he didn't want to do that either. His dad tells me to leave him alone because that's just his way. I try lol. We also don't have alot of resources but whenever he found an activity that he loved I did whatever was necessary to make it happen. I love to see a kid who's like him living her best life with a strong mama to love and guide her. And I love that y'all wanted to share her story openly because there are other young people out there who have similar struggles and representation is so important.
