  • Arthur Miller's classic tragedy A View From The Bridge, which explores forbidden love and moral codes, is given a new touring production by Headlong theatre company. Paul Seven Lewis caught up with it at Chichester.
He is critical of some of director Holly Race Roughan's decisions but finds much to like about a tense production that exults in the dialogue. He praises the quality of acting from Jonathan Slinger, Kirsty Bushell, Rachelle Diedricks, Nancy Crane, Luke Newberry and Tommy Sim'aan.
The set is by Moi Tran with soundscape by Max Perryment.
Headlong's A View from The Bridge was co-porduced by The Octagon Bolton, Chichester Festival Theatre and the Rose Theatre.
A View From The Bridge can be seen at Chichester Festival Theatre until 28 October and at Rose Theatre from 31 October to 11 November 2023.
Production photos used in this review are by The Other Richard.
Paul was given a review ticket by Chichester Festival Theatre.

I saw the Young Vic's production of this play with Mark Strong a few years back, which was extremely minimalist with basically no sets or props. Was very good, but would be interesting to see a different take on it as well

I loved the Young Vic production. This too was fairly minimalist but not as totally lacking in distractions nor as confined as the former. Some good acting in both productions, and the slight differences in interpretation are interesting.

I liked it more than you, though the set was disappointing.

I think I’ve been spoiled by Ivo Von Hove’s production at the Young Vic, but I did think the Headlong actors were good.
