Shops cannot turn down cash but problem is they probably don't have the exact change for you. Best to activate QR payment - either WeChat or Alipay. They are accepted almost everywhere. We visited Litang as well, one of the highest township above 4,000 meters
Depends on individuals. We were ok, but we did come across a youngster succumb to AMS. Sold him my cannister of oxygen since he needed it. Advice to walk slow and do not exert oneself.

Generally, we bought our own air ticket and arranged a private ground tour package from a tour agency from China on this 15 days trip. There was 7 of us.
