Personally I’ve really grown to like 2x1, despite it being confusing watching it for the first time
Here's some interesting background for WHY this episode was so strange.
Season 1 aired late at night. That's why it had more nudity and some of the massacres stretched what could be shown.
The show got popular and there was a long gap between season 1 and season 2.
When Code Geass was scheduled to return, it was going to be at primetime. That means a bigger audience and a younger audience. Some things would be toned down too. Notice that they panned away when all the soldiers k!lled themselves?
So the studio asked the writer to basically REINTRODUCE the characters and concepts of the show. The studio figured most of the people watching during the primetime slot would not have seen season 1. Amnesia forcrs you to explain things.
Also, the Code Geass toy line came out between season 1 and season 2. This will influence the season. You'll see more and more "special" mechs like Guren and Lancelot because special powerful knightmares sell better than generic footsoldier ones.
Alas, any mecha must always be sacrificed to the toy market.
I am so excited for y'alls S2 of this show. If you thought it was crazy before, buckle up.
