It's been said so many times, but it can never be repeated enough. Losing Billy Mackenzie left a void that can never be filled. His charm and his talent made him one of the most compelling and magical singers one could ever hope to hear. Imagine if he was still with us, how wonderful his songs would be today. His voice more rich and wonderful than ever. We miss you Billy.
This is my favourite song of all time by any artist. I was just 14 when it was released and I cried the first time I heard it. I had the cassette version of Perhaps and I have only ever heard the radio edit since. It was always Billy's vocal at the start that gave me goosebumps and it's so good to hear it again. RIP Billy Mac. Loved always xxx
A Time Machine - Its 2021 & this song was a favourite of my first real Girlfriend & I when I was 20, 1984. It's as though we are together in this moment right now, in that blissful naivete of young Love, the sharp edge of emotions felt. What a beautiful version, his voice haunting, wherever you are Donna Wright, I hope you are Happy & Grateful ...
So you think you can sing do you ? This is how it’s done, Billy’s range is incredible, his phrasing, his breathing, his timing, it’s all effortless, Billy & Roy Orbison, the greatest male vocalists in my humble opinion 👍😎💪
I never knew this version existed absolutely brilliant.has there ever been a better song written about the subject? the voice of an angel R.I.P Billy you legend.
My god… this takes me back to the summer of 1984. I never understood how this version isn't on every possible posthumous "hits" configuration, let alone on the actual fucking Perhaps CD. Also had this on the WEA Canada K7. Sure hope you're dancing with your whippets in heaven laddie.
My time. The flavour of my youth. I would not of missed a second of it. We miss you Billy and all those we have had to leave behind. No matter one day we will all be together for the party!
Yeah I had to watch a John Barnes video last night (long story) but he was "Joe Cockering" the vocals out (in American for some reason)and I was thinking of the effortless way BM poured it out
Sorry a'body for the rubbish, digi-artefacted mp3 uploaded here. Shall endeavour to get a better-sounding version online, but meanwhile, thanks for your comments. Bloody hell, it really is a neglected classic, eh?
Listening to it now on a mint 12" vinyl extended version thanks to Covid-19. Been locked-in too long - time to dig out the vinyl collection after all these years. This, my friend, is a masterpiece...😥
Played this as my husbands funeral just recently Bawled my eyes out. This was his and my song
I feel for you.

So odd that this hasn't appeared on any reissues or comps. I wonder if they've lost the master?
