  • Join me for our February garden tour in our backyard vegetable garden!
As our winter garden comes to and end we are looking forward to the spring ahead. We planted these starts out back in October (Zone 9B) and we are in harvest mode with our broccoli and cauliflower! Some of our kale has become victim to aphids and we are dealing with slugs on our artichokes and Brussel spouts, but all in all we have had a successful winter gardening season.

Our Liberty House is a gardening lifestyle channel. Lucas & Beth live in Zone 9b, Sacramento, CA, (with their dog, Liberty!) and garden in 6 raised beds in our backyard garden. Together, we garden year-round and share what we are growing and what we are learning along the way. Our gardening strategy is to create a garden full of diversity. We intermix vegetables, flowers, and herbs to create an ecosystem where beneficial insects thrive. We avoid all pesticides and instead plant things that will take care of pests for us. We compost and try to live a sustainable life where we can 'eat what we grow' from our backyard garden. Thanks for joining us on our journey!

The problem isn’t your tags it’s the marker. Get a garden marker. Our sun here in CA zaps sharpie right off the plastic. I had that problem with bulbs in pots I carefully labeled a few years ago so I could plant them when they were dormant. They were totally blank. So decided to try a garden marker and it has held up for over a year just as easy to read as the day I wrote on the labels. I found mine at a true value.

Glad the garlic succeeded! The broccoli looks fantastic! Hope the plants produce those smaller side shoots! Now I really want a few primrose flowers! They're adorable! I have seeds for Craspedia (drumstick flower). Can't wait! Your celery is impressive. Suggestion for passionfruit: replant with a cattle panel trellis, maybe arched, definitely not against the house. Never put a vining plant against a house or fence. In fact, to avoid water damage, or flooded basement, maybe don't plant anything along the side of the house. Some nice gravel and stone work maybe, that doesn't hold water to the house. I'm so jealous of your fruit trees! Looking forward to future videos and your plans! Best of luck! Hugs and kissies for Liberty!

Yes me too! Thanks. We are definitely not going to plant that on the house again haha. The drumstick flowers have taken forever to grow, so I’m hopeful for some flowers this year!

Thanks for sharing your garden. I live an hour south from you which gives me a good comparison for my garden. My peas took for ever to grow as did my garlic. My garlic is just starting to perk up bc we've had a little sun the last 3 days. I'm watcing my carrots carefuly bc I've never tried to grow them. I'm happy to see mine look like yours, as well! I watc for your posts to know what to expect in my own garden. I really appreciate all of the sharing you do.!

I am in your zone, Elk Grove. My shelling peas are coming up, the sugar daddy snap peas are not. I am thinking with the rains perhaps our seeds may have rotted as soil stays so wet. You seem to have a lot of empty spaces in your beds. Do you ever grow lettuces? You could definitely put in more carrots. Stick potatoes everywhere you have space. I seem to never have enough space! LOL Make sure what you have growing together are compatible with one another. You could stick some parsley and dill. How about some beets? I started with three raised beds and 5 gal food grade buckets. Have added stacking planters from Gardeners Supply, they currently have some on sale, almost $50 off. Nice as you can move them if needed to catch the sun. Nice to watch another gardener in my zone. Good luck!

Wow nice sounds like your garden is busting at the seams! We have definitely taken it slower this past season but are planning to fill her up for spring in another month or two. Yeah I’m not sure about the peas so that could have been the case! Oh well, I’m just letting the winter garden do it’s thing with minimal effort haha. This summer will be a much different story for us though. Thanks for watching and nice to have you!

You probably gets this a lot, but you sure do look a lot like that girl Anna from the hit show Downton Abbey.

Kind of a retro question: how are your Hisea boots holding up? When you showed yours, I went to the website and saw a pair I think I'd really like. My size is out of stock, but I'll check back in the beginning of April. My concerns are whether they make feet sweat excessively, and if the boots cause blisters (I can't wear Wellies for that reason. The pair I'm looking at are not in the Wellie style). Thank you, and thanks for the garden tour!

I haven’t worn them for long periods of time, mostly to go peek at the garden. So I’m not sure how they would hold up to rubbing. There isn’t much to the interiors of them, just a hole of rubber so basically just a rain boot. You could fit an insole in there for more support though. But overall they are holding up well and easy to slip on and off.

@@OurLibertyHouse Thanks for the honest review! My plan was to wear them for gardening also. Even though I have a comfy pair of waterproof shoes, I wanted something easy to rinse mud off of. Wellies are infamous for heel blisters, but the non-wellie types from this company supposedly don't have this problem. I have sissie feet. I get blisters very easily. Can't let that happen, especially since I became diabetic. I very much appreciate you taking the time to answer my question!

Where did you get that trellis? I’ve been looking to find something like that to connect two garden beds to make a arbor for my peas
