- The financial hits from the migrant crisis keep on coming.
New York City has likely surpassed $5 billion in spending on services for migrants - including nearly $2 billion alone on housing the scores of new arrivals flooding into the Big Apple, according to city data.
The eye-popping figures, listed on the city’s online asylum-seeker funding tracker, shows the city overall spent $4.88 billion combined through fiscal years 2023 and ‘24. Based on the rate of spending, the city likely exceeded more than $112 million since the start of the new fiscal year beginning July 1, or will soon, cracking $5 billion.
Mayor Eric Adams’ administration has even projected the cost could double, hitting $10 billion over the three year period ending June 30, 2025.
The NYPD alone has spent $21 million on public safety and security costs amid mayhem breaking out in and around the city-funded migrant shelters. The cost of the crisis equals nearly the entire NYPD budget of $5.75 billion.

Actually immigrants and homelessness in Canada treated differently as well. The shortages off housing is a growing concern to the first world nations as population growth increases and the price increases off housing results to homelessness. With the incoming displacements off economical and refugee migrants adds up to the overpopulation increase in the urban areas. What some provinces do under the municipalities they have lands in the cities unused therefore building affordable housing on those lands is a plus and buying the many hotels old and new to turn them into immediate housing does help in short term as the cities locate more needed to lands to build more affordable housing. Some off the hotels single room bachelor's and one bedroom and two bedrooms when renovated to accomodate single occupancy and families turn out to be the needed housing for immediate use to house many that needs housing. The many homeless in the city tents do have support in the first world nations it varies as who is willing to take advantage of those services knowing that many are faced with drug addictions and mental illness making it hard to house this kinda clients. When they drug addicts do get housed those rooms ends up looking like hell inside damaged and variety of smells due to rooms not cleaned by tenants on drugs and face with mental illness. The solutions on housing drug addicts and mental illness folks on medication they are better under supportive housing have fully trained staff to monitor the rooms, inspect and checking up on tenants everyday to check if the tenants are still alive from overdoses and checking if Rooms needs to be cleaned up. The housing crises is world wide drama it's not only US or Canada or Europe it's a world wide pandemic. Shortages off housing as Population increases, movement of displaced and other migration that ends up Increasing the value off houses where when paid minimal wage jobs even when working u just can't afford to buy a house. Affordable housing Geared to income for a single parent or married family not paid enough on both yearly income.

I’m a New Yorker also born & raised & this woman is telling the truth. All those building were built during the Bloomberg era when he started the rejuvenation process in New York. I lived in a New York shelter for four years & the same buildings were always empty. It is sinful the way Americans in general are treated especially in New York where we have two politicians like governor Houchl & mayor Adams whom we voted into office. We New Yorkers must remember all of this when it’s time to go to the polls to elect a new governor & mayor again.

To survive in my apartment now I have to use credit cards to buy food with & that is a sin & shame before god almighty !

I had read a story about a black family who had a house fire and they were saying that their 4 kids and them had to sleep in their car for a few days until they could get into a hotel because most were filled with migrants.

I can. My family still owns land in Clarendon county. It was my great grandfather's land. His daughter is my grandma and great aunt. They are in their early 80's and still have stories of picking cotton as a child. That just shows you slavery ended not even 100 years ago. Homeless people and addicts sleep on the steps of the church in front of the building. I was told we were building a hotel/apartment. Turns out it's a hotel/ada shelter..
Most of the carpenters and Masons were "middle eastern" barely spoke English. None of the American tradesmen know what's going on. I just happened to catch a glimpse of a passing clip board of what seemed to be an assistant to the owner of the building, who is also middle eastern.
