Friendly reminder that Namaari started all this mess (both when she betrayed Raya as a child, and again when she squeezed the crossbow trigger against Sisu), and only wants to try and take the moral high ground when she's beaten, laying on the ground and at sword point.
There is no magical power bullshit in this fight. Just two people fueled with rage trying to kill each other with bladed weapons. Such a rarity in Disney movies.
This scene is absolutely epic. I wish it could have been a little bit more. I feel like they should have made this a tv show instead and drawn it out. They met as kids and as a adults Namari betrayed Raya and her family. Maybe she was even torn about it after being pushed by her mother. And then this saga begins and each episode is her traveling from area to area finding the fragments where Raya slowly learns to trust a little bit more. Namiri would end up being the absolute test of her trust and she would fail for a good reason. But then Nimiri would come around. I feel like it would get compared to Avatar that way. But they already had a guardians of the galaxy infinity stone scene and a thanos snap type theme going and it would be a super good plot.
It's disney princess syndrome; you've got to look good, even during combat, so getting your hair sliced off by a sword or burned away in flames is forbidden. (I don't care that people will claim she's not a princess- she and Namaari are daughters of "chiefs." Since Pocahontas is *also* a daughter of a powerful Chief and is considered a "princess," Raya should be too by all rights and accounts.)
This is such a sad friendship story. They were enemies for six years and tried to kill each other at least twice. I would have loved it if they were sisters or cousins, that would have Namaari's "betrayal" at the beginning much more heartbreaking and both girls would've been more interesting. The great princess Namaari was about to hit Raya really hard at the end of their duel and she really looked like she enjoyed it. Still, had they been sisters or cousins, the trust in each other at the end would've made more sense and been more touching. As it is, it's really good, but had the girls been sisters or cousins and Namaari been a year or two older than Raya, it would've made me cry my eyes out of joy 😭💖 I really do hope we get to see a sequel, because I want to see a close female friendship between them. There aren't enough female only friendships in Disney movies. We have a lot of romance stories and while I love them, I wished we had more female friendships in their movies. I hope to see a sequel where the lovely princesses have become besties. I mean, "dep la" means "best friend". Come on, Disney, give me a strong female friendship between these princesses!

I can’t believe I’m saying this but raya killed sisu since she threw the sword but didn’t mean it since she said NO SISU! Not haha. She was crying and feeling shamed of her self!
I want to like the swordfighting in this scene. But it suffers from the exact problem most fight scenes have these days; way too many jump cuts. Fight scenes need to be able to breathe, let the audience take in the conflict. Jump cuts are IMHO cheap, lazy unfocused and just leave viewers nauseous.
Jump cuts give a sense of speed. This is a very quick-pace scene with lots of movement happening, so going shot-to-shot does exactly what it intends to do. This is not a breathe kind of fight, it's meant to leave you at the edge of your seat
You can do intense without having to rely on jump cuts every nanosecond. Look at the videos from Adorea or a short "lightsaber" film called To The Death. They're fast full of intensity and they don't jump cut every second before the eyes can even begin to refocus.
I love some parts of this movie, I just wish I could have been better. Not great but better. Plus, I do ship Raya and Namaari. I REALLY want a sequel where they are actually in love.

To be honest, l don’t like Namaari at all. She betrayed Raya after she trusted her and thought of her as a good friend. She and her mother, was the reason all of this happened, the reason why so many people suffered just like Raya. Raya had to watch her father turn into stone, be away from him from six whole years, remembering that she was the one that gave Namaari the chance to win. And also, l think it is the right thing, not trusting people easily. You first, got to understand if that person you met, can be trustful, and if it is good and kind. I really like Raya as a character, she is beautiful, skilled, fast and strong, and she is right. But even if l didn’t like Namaari as a character, l really enjoyed the movie, when l watched her two years ago when it came out. I may watch it again soon.

When Namaari shot Sisu, Raya’s levels to defeat Namaari went through the roof. Like 1000%.
Say what you want about the movie but this scene is so epic.
I love this scene so much, i gets so piped up to see Raya beat the crap out of Namaari until she is defeated.
I always start to cry when Namaari cries out her regrets. She is by far the most interesting character in the entire movie.
All Raya wanted was to get her dad back.
Friendly reminder that Namaari started all this mess (both when she betrayed Raya as a child, and again when she squeezed the crossbow trigger against Sisu), and only wants to try and take the moral high ground when she's beaten, laying on the ground and at sword point.
There is no magical power bullshit in this fight. Just two people fueled with rage trying to kill each other with bladed weapons.
Such a rarity in Disney movies.

This scene is absolutely epic. I wish it could have been a little bit more. I feel like they should have made this a tv show instead and drawn it out. They met as kids and as a adults Namari betrayed Raya and her family. Maybe she was even torn about it after being pushed by her mother. And then this saga begins and each episode is her traveling from area to area finding the fragments where Raya slowly learns to trust a little bit more. Namiri would end up being the absolute test of her trust and she would fail for a good reason. But then Nimiri would come around. I feel like it would get compared to Avatar that way. But they already had a guardians of the galaxy infinity stone scene and a thanos snap type theme going and it would be a super good plot.
As a show it would worked better than it did lmao
The fact that Raya is able to do all of that with her hair down is impressive.
It's disney princess syndrome; you've got to look good, even during combat, so getting your hair sliced off by a sword or burned away in flames is forbidden.
(I don't care that people will claim she's not a princess- she and Namaari are daughters of "chiefs." Since Pocahontas is *also* a daughter of a powerful Chief and is considered a "princess," Raya should be too by all rights and accounts.)

This is such a sad friendship story. They were enemies for six years and tried to kill each other at least twice. I would have loved it if they were sisters or cousins, that would have Namaari's "betrayal" at the beginning much more heartbreaking and both girls would've been more interesting. The great princess Namaari was about to hit Raya really hard at the end of their duel and she really looked like she enjoyed it. Still, had they been sisters or cousins, the trust in each other at the end would've made more sense and been more touching. As it is, it's really good, but had the girls been sisters or cousins and Namaari been a year or two older than Raya, it would've made me cry my eyes out of joy 😭💖 I really do hope we get to see a sequel, because I want to see a close female friendship between them. There aren't enough female only friendships in Disney movies. We have a lot of romance stories and while I love them, I wished we had more female friendships in their movies. I hope to see a sequel where the lovely princesses have become besties. I mean, "dep la" means "best friend". Come on, Disney, give me a strong female friendship between these princesses!

The fact that they made this fight scene too violent was kinda legit for a Disney movie
I want to like the swordfighting in this scene. But it suffers from the exact problem most fight scenes have these days; way too many jump cuts. Fight scenes need to be able to breathe, let the audience take in the conflict. Jump cuts are IMHO cheap, lazy unfocused and just leave viewers nauseous.
Jump cuts give a sense of speed. This is a very quick-pace scene with lots of movement happening, so going shot-to-shot does exactly what it intends to do. This is not a breathe kind of fight, it's meant to leave you at the edge of your seat
You can do intense without having to rely on jump cuts every nanosecond. Look at the videos from Adorea or a short "lightsaber" film called To The Death. They're fast full of intensity and they don't jump cut every second before the eyes can even begin to refocus.
I love some parts of this movie, I just wish I could have been better. Not great but better. Plus, I do ship Raya and Namaari. I REALLY want a sequel where they are actually in love.

To be honest, l don’t like Namaari at all. She betrayed Raya after she trusted her and thought of her as a good friend. She and her mother, was the reason all of this happened, the reason why so many people suffered just like Raya. Raya had to watch her father turn into stone, be away from him from six whole years, remembering that she was the one that gave Namaari the chance to win. And also, l think it is the right thing, not trusting people easily. You first, got to understand if that person you met, can be trustful, and if it is good and kind. I really like Raya as a character, she is beautiful, skilled, fast and strong, and she is right. But even if l didn’t like Namaari as a character, l really enjoyed the movie, when l watched her two years ago when it came out. I may watch it again soon.
