This video will go over the first time I received a complaint as a Professional pooper scooper. I under bid a job that was too much work and decided to stop scooping after 5 hours. The customer was not happy so I had to give her a refund and this situation is why I changed to charging by the bag for Initial and One Time appointments.

Oh no! I learned this the hard way as well. Went to a backyard that every square inch was COVERED in feces. Told them I'd need more money and they refused, didn't end up taking the job but now I'll be more prepared.
Good on you for standing your ground! I just laugh when someone wants their yard scooped for almost free. Not here with my business 😂💩
seems like we all have this experience our first year scooping. mine was a lady who had 6 chihuahas and at least 3 months of poop in the backyard

With the "by the bag" structure, have you ever had a customer claim the bags werent filled 100%. Obviously you dont fill the whole bag. Just the bag inside the scooper.
Nope, and I don't claim to fill up the bags 100%. I tell them each bag will hold 4-5 gallons
Why do you charge by the bag? 100 piles of Chihuahua poo is a lot less than 100 piles of a St. Bernard poo but it’s still about the same amount of effort.
Great question! My first year I severely undercharged for my services when I did flat rates and I got tired of not getting paid what my services are worth. Doing by bag has a tangible output of work that a customer can see and it's been working out for me. More poop = more money. I tend to make the first bag at a higher price if I know the initial cleaning will be for small dogs to account for the extra time and effort to find smaller poops.
How much do you charge for 1st and subsequent bags? I'm just about to get started soon.
