"Cocked Wah"....that sound is a Maxon Envelope Filter that he has set to mimic the sound of a wah pedal set in a certain position. Check out his pedalboard setup.
Whilst he does use E/H and Maxon Envelope filters and that's likely what's going on there, just for future reference: *Interview excerpt* (Laughter) There's no whammy and there's no wah in any of that. I don't have a whammy bar and I don't have a wah pedal. Oh, man, what an idiot I am. That tells you how closely I listen. I'm sorry. That's just all your regular vibrato? Yeah; it's pretty much all in my fingers.
He definitely has an uberunique tone and as much as I've tried to mimic it, that's the closest I've came to nailing it. Still, no one can pull off that sound like Marty.
The intro of this song, is something really unique. Haven't heard such an intro for a long time, it has some weird feeling and hype. Also the melodic part at 1:50 is something instantly recognizable Friedman-style. Something small and simple but pretty. This song was just another great surprise like self pollution.
Always though he played salsa, o, what no stop that, o, few its metal agian, o , know don't go pop, oh what. Ah hell it sounds great and definitely not boring.
Marty; You need to find someone with whom you have a chemistry like you had with Jason Becker and start a band again. I know finding someone with those visions is hard, and it's nice to hear you play your things, but I miss you in a band setting. When you play as a solo project, you shine all the time, but you need the contrast of others to let you shine brighter when you do. You are amazing
One of the greatest guitar players ever to play the guitar! Marty Friedman! He can come up with any sound on the guitar and makes it into a awesome song!
this album is going to be lit but i know no critic or media would pay attention to this and only true megadeth fans and Marty's fan would remember this album forever.
That solo part starting at 1:51, I think he played that before! Quite sure I've heard it somewhere before, probably when he was jamming with Jason for Carvin guitars. Or it's from Namida.
I do not know if I shall dance, headbang or play airguitar ... I will do all of them! Amazing album Marty! A great fan of you. Greetings from Valencia, Spain.
Ivan Mendoza, marty friedman is way better than periphery IMO, but that opening lick is similar to some or periphery's stuff such as the way the news goes
Lol, this is song is like a combination of Guthrie Govan, some Djent, Kiko Loureiro and those great melodies and bendings of Marty Friedman. Some of the best tracks!
I mean I will say older bands/musicians can gain inspiration from younger ones but I think in this case it is very much Marty being a HEAVY influence on A7X especially, AaL less so.
Just like Marty Influenced A7X, A7X developed their own sound and it seems here Marty has really taken inspiration from their sound. It's a back and forth thing dude.
eres demasiado cerrado y ardido, pareces como esos tipos que siguen odiando a la exnovia luego de siglos de haber roto. Marty se fue de Megadeth hace casi dos decadas, superalo.
1:29 ... this is the signature bends of Marty Friedman; i call it the bend of the wailing samurai
Oh god yes. That sick ass sustained nasal ass cocked wah tone slays....
There's actually no wah on there. Marty says he doesn't even own a wah pedal. It's just his natural picking dynamics.

"I'm tired of metal, I want to make j-pop!"
_makes metal_
SovietMcStalin it is way different from megadeth project mate...
ilias takidis in other news, water is wet
why not?
this is more like progesive metal,, but metal at the end, he is not doing blues,, jazz or other genere more different then metal
Always though he played salsa, o, what no stop that, o, few its metal agian, o , know don't go pop, oh what. Ah hell it sounds great and definitely not boring.
Thank Marty God exists.
Praise be to Marty.
lmaooo, I'm just donnnne, its true tho
OMM!
That's right !1 OMMF haha
If you listen to this a couple times it's actually pretty heavy
That Intro!!
Marty;

You are amazing
He should do more collab with Dave Davidson of Revocation. "The Exaltation" on the last Revocation album is such a cool song.
He just did a banger with jason
3:06 im crying
The new album is great, and Whiteworm is one of the finest songs on it.
Oh Marty, no doubt you are my favorite musician, you always impress me. Please never die.
I believe he is the only guitar player in the world who can actually make a guitar cry
tosin abasi. Look him up from animals as leaders. Best guitarist in the world
I like alex skolnick too
Suvarna Chauhan intermezzo liberte ? Sounds familiar?
Gary moore
you dont know a lot of guitarists then
That salsa sudden change at 1:00 brought a new flavor to everything that Marty does! Amazing!
New Favorite I feel Marty's heart in this one.
Really cool stuff! Reminds of Kiko Loureiro's solo stuff (1:00->), yet with Martin's signature sound. Can't wait! :)
this fuker did it again goddammit ... fucking epic song
That whole Flamenco bit at 1:00 is insane. Love the lick at 1:20 - the pattern changes about 5 times during.
Except its not flamenco, i'd say some latin fusion or something
A bailar se ha dicho. 💃
Muy buena melodía. Gracias, Marty. 💕
1:51 part was made by the gods, Bend the knee
One of the greatest guitar players ever to play the guitar! Marty Friedman! He can come up with any sound on the guitar and makes it into a awesome song!
Sidney Eubanks I was thinking the same thing Sidney! Marty has such an interesting way of coming up with great sounds!
This is actually really good. I definitely didn't expect this, nor was I dissapointed with what I found.
This is awesome! Some djent and proggy vibes here with hints of latino/fusion. Marty has a very unique sound, he never dissapoints.
Marty was smart enough to release a new album as heavy as the previous one called Inferno. And I'm glad for that! \m/
Love and respect from Turkey
Keep shredding Marty!!!
this album is going to be lit but i know no critic or media would pay attention to this and only true megadeth fans and Marty's fan would remember this album forever.
Sadly, your comment is very on point
That solo part starting at 1:51, I think he played that before! Quite sure I've heard it somewhere before, probably when he was jamming with Jason for Carvin guitars. Or it's from Namida.
So excited for this album! It's cool to see an artist with such a recognizable style/sound adapt to the changes in a genre.
u can really hear those Engles tone. brub brub brub. frik. live it
Just saw this show live in LA! Best live show I have ever heard! His skill is like no other!!!
Hi Marty, you are great guitar player. I'm your fan
nel perro XD
:>
#HailRKM ;v
Feeling some "djenty" vibes there... nice.
peko-x totally, and with an original feel as well . Haven't heard Marty in while . 👌
Heard it and freaked out. Hope he doesn't go djent.
just listen and enjoy it for what it is.
at least marty's vibes more dominant
yea, agree with you
some Salsa in there! Marty Pure!
I do not know if I shall dance, headbang or play airguitar ... I will do all of them! Amazing album Marty! A great fan of you. Greetings from Valencia, Spain.
¡Salsa djent! 1:00
Did not expect this, holy shit what a great song!
2:43 He pretty much nails the two-humbucker guitar middle position tone right here. Adding some wah didn't hurt either!
Awesome
Genius a Nice blend Of Style's "with in" Rock & Metal
Loved it... The intro is amazing and the signature mellow part!!!
So sick
The intro so eargasm
amazing marty.
awesome!
completely Friedman style.
thanks!!!
marty djents, and how beautifulle he does it!!!! sounds like animals as leaders..
This sounds Amazing! :)
Love it!...get to see him in concert next week!
Hey. How was it?
always marty's melody
cool stuff with caribbean vibe
get ready for goosebumps 1:20
Insane Stuff Marty Sensei.! 😍
This is what is called going Samurai on Guitars ❤
Very periphery-y to my ears in the early part
Ivan Mendoza, marty friedman is way better than periphery IMO, but that opening lick is similar to some or periphery's stuff such as the way the news goes
Adam Garon That's cool man, I was only kidding. Rock on \m/
Ivan Mendoza you too man \m/
nice man intro feel like cacophony
The man himself, Mr Marty friedman!
Cool cool cool cool, very cool.
1:00 joe arroyo is that you? xD
Really liking what he's doing with this album curious as to why the pic of Marty has him with his guitar upside down and left handed?
guitarguy935 i hadnt noticed that but if he switched i give up on guitar.
Jake Lee that'd be a whole other level of guitar mastery lol it'd be like Jason Becker when he'd play bach pieces with the guitar on his lap
guitarguy935 if anybody could do it it would be him and marty lol
Jake Lee very true haha
holy shit bro this is awesome
3:55
temun!!!!!
Marty mito!
Lol, this is song is like a combination of Guthrie Govan, some Djent, Kiko Loureiro and those great melodies and bendings of Marty Friedman. Some of the best tracks!
This is the shiznit man!
Instant like.
exelente..
Pero si está tocando salsa :v jajaja ste marty
And just when i thought i want to learn it , i imidiately refuse just from listening to the intro
This intro sounds very similar to the one on Horrors from his previous album Inferno.
marty friedman is actually djenting 😂
marty already djenting way before djent invented
first but not last yes
Bebars Hosnie djent is amazing
please make a record with Ron Jarzombek!!!
Holy fuck, Marty.
1:02 and then Hisoka appears
Is this Anup Sastry on drums?
Yes. Gregg Bissonette also played drums on Marty's new album, but it's definitely Anup on this song.
Mister marty.
Delicious
Intro reminds me of something Kiko Lourerio would come up with
I thought he said he didn't want to do this kind of music but whatever it's good
gives me an Avenge Sevenfold vibe
Amazing song but the very end part was cut instead of doing all the lick...felt wrong other than that excellent song
2:06 - 2:21 :)
prog + marty = win
Marty Djentman
This is tasty as fuck.
isnt this dude from megadeth?
like two decades ago..
Marty-senpai notice me
I'm hearing some Animals as Leaders sounds in the first half, and Avenged Sevenfold influences near the second half!
You mean Marty influenced THEM....
Avenged Sevenfold influences? You are kidding right?
I mean I will say older bands/musicians can gain inspiration from younger ones but I think in this case it is very much Marty being a HEAVY influence on A7X especially, AaL less so.
this is heavier than I remember his solo stuff. Would love to think Tosin has some influence.
Just like Marty Influenced A7X, A7X developed their own sound and it seems here Marty has really taken inspiration from their sound. It's a back and forth thing dude.
who n the hell cud thumbz down. when god handed out groove time they must have been late and didnt get any.
anyone else hear some chon in that intro?
FACE = MELTED
better than Inferno
sounds a bit like Loomis
loomis has been ripping off Marty and Jason Becker for decades now. he's a great player but it's definently the other way around.
