This scene always gets me … from an emotional scene before knowing Mel is gonna pass away soon but his team is still behind him … then the squeeze play to take the lead with the music in the background… CHILLS AND TEARS EVERYTIME
From the very beginning, the angels knew Mel Brooks was coming up soon. They gave him one last chance to be an all-star pitcher before cancer takes him. Such good story telling.
Gosh, this movie brings back such fond memories from when I was a kid, I can't help but get a little choked up. Looking back, Angels in the Outfield had a star packed cast! so many famous actors were a part of this movie! Danny Glover, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sean Penn, Mathew Mcconaughey, Adrian Brodey, Tony Danza....the list goes on!
@@theicchamp06 yea...I realized this about a week after posting this lol. For whatever reason I was convinced that Roger's father was played by Sean Penn, so my fault lol. The movie is still stacked with famous actors though!
@@GreenmanRP Indeed. Dermot Mulroney played Roger's father. He's starred in famous films like Young Guns, My Best Friend's Wedding, Bad Girls, How to Make An American Quilt, and even Scream VI.
Darn near wore out this VHS as a kid. Still get butterflies watching this "game." One of the best things about this movie: the baseball action is really believable. The actors can throw, hit, and catch. Compare to Tim Robbins in Bull Durham, who must've taken throwing lessons from Betty White.
Is this a joke? Tony Danza looks like he’s never touched a baseball in his life. Nuke’s delivery in Bull Durham is exaggerated for the character. The real gold standard is Charlie Sheen in Major League. Rick Vaughn’s delivery is smooth af.
There's only two ways you can not like baseball: 1) You're not cool enough to like baseball, or 2) the people behind the league put their thumbs on the scales. When it's a good, fair game though, it's one of the greatest sports ever. It's America's Favorite Past Time for a reason.
I particularly like that the scenario is the same as, and at the same time opposite of, the scenario earlier in the movie. Instead of colliding and blowing the play, the two players learned, and instead not only do they tally an out but they halt the runner.
He was a splash play guy but man.. how he ever made it to a regular MLB roster is beyond me. Guy couldn't hit. He could make it as an actor. Charismatic guy. But on a baseball field...no way.
Imagine being a MLB player in the post season heart pounding, breathing a bit heavier & I've heard pitchers talk about being dry mouthed spitting they can't do. Lol
I relate to this. When the Phillies were facing the Braves in Game 4 of the 2023 NLDS. The bases were loaded in the top of the ninth, but the Phillies pulled it off, eliminating the Braves!
Ranch (the radio commentator) hated Knox (the Angels manager) and always talked down on the Angels; almost like his thoughts were being broadcast on the radio, hoping like hell the Angels would fail. And yes, that led to him speaking false information.
@@CustomizedUsername Absolutely; to be fair though, he probably should've fired Knox after he physically attacked his pitcher during the first game. He was one patient owner.
Just noticed the runner advances to 3rd twice. He gets a single. advanced by the bunt. You see him advance on the grounder to ss. Then the long fly ball would have scored the tying run, but instead the runner tags up from 2nd and advances to 3rd.
Um al said he's checking up on Mel for he's coming up soon and dont worry he's well taken care of. And last I checked going up is heaven and going down is hell
Mel Clark was all washed up; Frank Gates resigned because the California Angels would never get any better, but look at all the fun that he had been missing out on.
The good Ol days of great films. I love baseball because of this movie. How I miss those days
42 made baseball true.

Mel Brooks?
If that’s the case, why don’t the angels do this for every team that has a sickly player?

4:05 that might highlight of the year award. Impeccable style play
Ben Williams saved the game for now with a spectacular catch!
Soaring through the air without the angels help
I hate it when I forget I'm watching a four minute clip.
You have 4 minutes to save the world.

I’m not sure who plays Gaboyan, the White Sox first baseman but I think it’s Andres Galaraga

I've always liked this movie
42 is true baseball.
Thanks for showing these cuts to us it was really great film and we never see it on any station
Williams I believe took back the home run!! Amazing
Williams got a jump on the ball and took charge!
A squeeze play with two outs in a tie game in the bottom of the eighth. Thank goodness this is a movie.
Maybe if Mel had drunk as much water as possible. Either that or if the Angels had just taken turns pitching.
Mel's arm had to be tired after throwing 156 pitches.
I like how that guy he hits at the end of the clip looks like he wants to charge the mound.
This would be so nerve racking!

Ok heart of the lineup? My guess is the last guy was number 3 or 4 hitter…meaning he really was facing the bottom of the order

@@BmanTheChamp You are correct. Still, Gasper is an awful baserunner to not advance on this play!
