In my early teens, my dad got an old F-hole Tele, and ever since I have wanted a T-body guitar that was metal AF. I’ve been an Ola fan for years and really want one of these.
Had the same issues that you had. I love Solar's spin on the singlecut, but they wouldn't make a few longer scale models for them. Same with the V models. Of course the one shape I never cared for before, telecasters, got the longer scale. But I got used to the T1.7 and actually like the design now. Solar removed all the gripes I have with teles, the headstock and singlecoil+the box part where the coils are placed
I love Solar guitars and with the odd defect here and there when they were going through quality issues due to covid is understandable and should be expected for every business right now. It is how the company fixes the problem when there is one and still makes the customer happy which I would think Ola would be very adamant about. The shape is very cool and it plays well. When you change the pickups to fit your needs it will be getting lots of use no doubt. Great video as always and keep on rocking .
Proud owner of a V2.7 TBR myself. When it came in, I felt the potential, but saw some flaws. The action wasn’t the best, the pickups were too low output, and the damn thing couldn’t stay in tune. Thankfully, after swapping the pups out for a Black Winter in the bridge and Sentient in the neck, giving the guitar a set up myself and popping in some locking tuners, it is my second favorite guitar I own. There are some cosmetic flaws as well with the neck binding, but I don’t mind terribly. I made it my own by doing those mods, which added sentimental value to it. It’s so badass looking and sounds killer! For those of you worried about your fretboard cracking like I was, I immediately lubed up the board with some fretboard oil and it’s been perfectly fine. Good video, by the way! Cheers!
interesting you had tuning issues, thats something Ive never had with any of my solars, all rock solid in that regard. 100% agree on the pickups. glad yours was killer after some setup.
@@MetalHeadProductions Maybe I just got unlucky with mine in that regard, but now that the problem is fixed, I am glued to that guitar! I’m looking to get one of their 8 string V’s for my next guitar! It’s dope that you replied, bro! Cheers!
Hi! I'd just like to ask you, which locking tuners did you get? I'm quite new to the world of 7 string guitars and I'm thinking about buying this one, but I'm having troubles finding locking tuners that are in line. Thanks in advance for the reply, cheers!
@@antoniokapusta8758 I got the Hipshot locking tuners! I had to buy 7 individual tuners for that guitar, but thankfully, they sent the tuners all in one package. I highly recommend Hipshot. Here’s the ones I got: hipshotproducts.com/collections/guitar-tuning-machines/products/grip-lock-closed-guitar-tuning-machines?variant=43346196424 Just pick treble side for all the tuners you buy if you’re buying for your Solar. A word of caution, it’s not a direct drop in, so have a professional do the install.
I appreciate this video, your content catalogue in general, and the "Phantom Wizard Demo." Been listening to it every day since release and I'm not even a Doom Metal guy. Keep going.
Nope, never had tuning issues. Did a minor setup on it, made sure the intonation was right for my preferred strings and tuning and it's been solid as a rock ever since.
I have a T1.7 Vinter due to ship around 4/15/22 I can’t wait to get it! Fingers crossed on QC, I’m hoping they have corrected the issues from early Covid time frame.
I doubt you'll have any issues. There were very few at the beginning of covid and it was overblown by some people for drama. they haven't had any issues for some time now.
@@MetalHeadProductions I'm not normally a Tele guy, but this and the Ibanez FR's are are nice alternative. MKIII is a beast. I could look at the 1287 piece neck for hours
Just got mine delivered today, the white one. Coming from a PRS Tremonti, and jesus christ what a chunky neck. It feels so weird to play, the action seems to be low and high at the same time. The pickups are much lower output but are..louder? Im so confused by this new guitar, but i like it
I did do a proper setup on my guitar to get it feeling right and I'd recommend doing the same. The neck on this 7 string is a bit chunky, but it's also a 7, I haven't played a 6 of the type t so idk if it's chunkier than normal.
@@MetalHeadProductions yeah, i did a lot of experimenting, the guitar can take absurdly low action with pretty much no fret buzz. And my old guitar feels like a toy now lol sadly, have an issue with it, probably will have to send it back, unless ill be able to fix it myself
Looks fantastic and sounds good mate. I get why they put the same pickups in 95 percent of their stuff, but I dunno, its getting a bit old. Theyre probably due to update them imo
Fortunately, I have the pickups I prefer in this already and a solderless wiring kit, so it doesn't bother me much, but I could definitely see it turning people off who would otherwise want the guitar.
@@MetalHeadProductions very nice brah. And glad you commented cos I forgot to mention. The way you explained being a Solar artist was really cool. How's the fret access in the 20-24 fret area? I've played an ESP tele before and the high fret access wasn't good at all so I decided not to buy it. This is one of my concerns if I purchase this guitar.
Eh, didn’t like the one I bought. I bought a new one, in box and it was in terrible condition. This is no shipping or dropping errors, those are cheap for a reason. I gave it a bit, tried to work with it. It didn’t stay in tune, trussrod would never stay and it sounded like something from Walmart.
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years now... my GC1.6 killertone is destroying anything on the market right now.. hands down. They could have charged $3,500 for that guitar
That guitar is so awesome. I love my G series solar, the red one, and funny enough I put black winters in that. I'd love one of the killer tone ones too though, the pickup rings would make it easier for pickup demos and I love that inlay.

I had my eye on this one i really want them to do the flame black with fishmans
Been playing Chapman guitars so far, but i'm thinking about trying a Solar.
Did you have tuning issues with yours? I have this in Neon Yellow but it required a bit of upgrades to function correctly.

These companies need to take note from Agile. (Rondo music).
Longer scale lengths. (27-30 inches).
And locking tuners need to be standard.
Agree on the locking tuner, but I'm not tuning crazy low so for me 26.5" is ideal

I kinda lust for those slimeburst ones
I like the looks of this, and the single cut 7 with evertune.
But I'll be sticking my my KM7 MKIII artist
I adore my kmIII and it's still my main recording guitar, but really dig this too and it's going to be what I'll use live for sure.

Oh it has the same upper fret access the start body has. Same contoured heel.

Pretty decent. All the solar guitars have a fairly nice tapper for hand access to the upper frets.
