The old 383 passed after changing the CAT. is it my timing? I'm at 8000 Ft above see level? If you have a recommendation I would love to hear it. Thanks
I have a 1990 4 cylinder Toyota Camry. I barely passed hydrocarbons at 25 MPH, but failed at 15MPH. It drives fine, but miles per gallon has dropped somewhat. Already checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner spray - no idle speed changes. Had spark plugs replaced a couple of years ago with Iridium plugs, will pull and check them tomorrow (and clean them, check gapping). Hopefully there will be no oil in the spark plug holes (from leaking gaskets).

I failed smog twice now on a 1996 Infiniti g20; only the 15 mph HC portion.I gapped all the sparks, cleaned the dist. cap contacts, checked ohms on spark plug wires, and timing was perfect. between the two fails, I replaced a cracked intake boot leading from the air filter to the intake, but it only dropped 10 ppm or so. I have been failing for the last 8 years, but always manage to do a little something to get it to pass the second time; except this time. Could it be a vacuum leak, or an upstream O2 sensor if it only fails on low RPM? Thanks!
I just failed 15mph with high HC's. The HC's were just over limit Max = 55, actual was 57. I did have %02 = .2 so perhaps it was not fully warmed up? I changed plugs and coil pak before smog test. The oil only has 4k miles on it, but thats over the last 2 yrs (don't drive the truck much). Should I change the oil before I take it back in for re-test?
It could really be a ton of different possibilities. You have to find a small leak, somewhere in the whole system. I'd start by fallowing all the evap hoses that I could see. Look for a wet spot. If you can't find one. The next best thing to do would to do a Smoke Diagnostic. I have a 1992 Nissan pathfinder xe. Had a smog test performed. Everything passed except HC levels at 15 mph. At 15 mph the level was 119. At 25 mph it came down to 47. The technician advised me to start with my oxygen sensor as I’ve never replaced it. If that doesn’t fix it he suspects the catalytic converter. Any advice/ thoughts?
Got a 98 S -10 - HC juist barely passed 2 years ago.. I'm due again.... Does cat cleaner help? 87 or 91 octane? Early morning when it is cooler or is it ok to go on a hot day in the afternoon?
How are you on a tune-up? Like the spark plugs and air filter? If you have not done a oil change in a while, fresh oil can help out a little too. Lastly, old pre-cat oxygen sensors could be replaced. Especially if they have over 100k miles on them. The time of day.... honestly won't make much of a difference. Just make sure you drive the vehicle for 20 ish minutes before you go in and try to get them to hurry and test it hot. I hope that helps!! Good luck! 🤞🏻💪🏻
What if its only at idle? I pass no problem at load, but at idle its over twice the max. I've tuned up, run seafoam through it, full drive cycle, and replaced O2 sensors. I can not figure out why its running so rich at idle.

I failed Deq do to high hydrocarbon for a ford f150 75 I changed the distributor cap the rotor and still doesn’t work I cleaned the carburetor and I installed all new gasket kit for it what else can I do ?
Carburetor.... I surprised that one is still running in a emissions inspection state.. but, did you check the spark plugs? Make sure the gap wag good? How are the wires? How is the Ignition timing? The Carburetor could need adjustment, but honestly, I am not a Carburetor guy.

94 Chevy work truck 4.3 failed 25mph by two was at 54 need 52. Truck had been sitting so I added chevron techron complete fuel system cleaner drove all the gas out of it. Then put another bottle cleaner in with shell 91 4 gallons to make it more concentrated drove until that fuel was gone and filled up 6 gallons of chevron 87 and failed by one 53 need 52. Stupid California. Going to do spark plugs and wires with an oil change

For emissions test, I like to install a new air filter & add a bottle of injector cleaner to the fuel tank.
That is a great idea. I usually recommend getting the smog done on the next tank of fuel. Don't smog while the clea er is in there.
