AlfaOBD: Change Your Tire Size To Fix Your Speedometer After Installing Bigger Tires On Your Ram!

  • If you've installed bigger (or smaller? Eww) tires on your Ram truck, you've probably noticed the speedometer is off. It says you're going 70 MPH? You might actually be going over 75 mph...Normally you'd need to pay a bunch of cash to your dealer (assuming they even reprogram tire size) and have someone else handle this for you, but not now! It's easy to reprogram your truck to display the accurate speed after installing bigger tires.
Don't Know what AlfaOBD is? • AlfaOBD: What Is It? I...
You'll need the OBDLink MX: amzn.to/2Cvb032
    Alfaobd app: amzn.to/2LuO72m
    Tire size calculator: tiresize.com/calculator/
With this easy to follow tutorial, you'll have your truck programmed quickly and enjoy more accurate mpg calculation, speedometer, odometer, and maybe even better driving (the transmission will know what's going on now).

This worked great for my 2014 ram 3500. At first I could not get the abs light to turn off. I apparently didn’t do something right as I tried a few different times. I then took it slow and made sure I followed to a tee and it worked flawlessly. Moral of the story is it work for my 14 and when the abs wouldn’t go out, it was because of my error. Great video and thank you for sharing

Charles great video easy to follow, I did get the 4wd not available, service trailer brake, no speedo, and heavy steering. This is nothing you did wrong after letting my truck sit for a half hour it cleared its self. I have had to fine tune the size and let it sit every time. Also if you’re not getting an abs fault there is no need to run the abs reset. Hope this helps people with similar problems and thanks again for this great video.

Can you program/calibrate the two axles differently? i.e. 325's (35.4") in the rear and 35's (actually 34.8") up front? I Put on a proper lift so the upgraded control arms etc. front and back will cover geometry, and wouldn't mind getting 3/10" of factory rake back from these lift kits that net -2" Rake change by using shorter rear springs vs. how much they lift the front. Put another way, how would I account for a lesser difference, say 1/3" between front and rear, If I put on new mudders on the back and nearly bald ones of same size in the front??

When I do the manual add tire size and hit start it shows me my old size and when I hit next it goes back to the tire selection page. Following this to a T and the ABS initialization won't load so I have to skip it and go to ECU initialization. It's crazy cause I had no issue changing to 35s. But now that I'm trying to update to 37s it's not working. I'm not sure why I'm having this issue. The ABS initialization page doesn't load to give me the function to click start, the buttons remain gray and don't load up to red to click.

I didn't see where you adjusted the transmission/shift points, is this done by the programmer automatically when tire size is changed? It is a bit unnerving that all these codes happen to your brand new 70K plus vehicle 😳 Are you still using this system today, have you experienced anything that would want you to warn against using now?

    • @chazpages

The trans shift points and handled by the truck-it just needs to know what size tires are on!

2022 RAM, added 33.1 inch tires, up from 31 in (2462 mm). With alfaobd, do you want the speedo to match the actual speed clocked with a GPS app? Or, just use actual circumference of new tires, which is 2642, which makes the speedo run at 2-3 mph faster than actual (compared to GPS speed app)? To get the speedo accurate, I have to reduce mm to 2595, which isn't the actual tire circum, but it make the speedo accurate. Any insights appreciated!

It would really be up to you, but I would personally set it to be accurate with gps speed! Tires are frequently “off” from the specified size, so it would be best if the vehicle knows exactly what size the tires really are.

Hey man! Geez, AlfaOBD has a clunky UI! Hey, I commented on the Squarebody rollover vid, but like you, I have a mid-trim PW. The only options it came with were tow mirrors and the 8.4 Uconnect (luckily). Oh and the mixed emotions Dragon's Puke graphics. But if I found a steering wheel with the rear control buttons for audio control, do you think Alfa would be able to let me enable that feature? I also noticed that noticed that you changed your instrument cluster to the higher end EVIC. Can you reprogram the milage as well? I'd like to find an actual PW one, but chances are pretty slim compared to just a Lariat though. As a content idea, how about a slower overview of just AlfaOBD itself?

Don Leamon yes you can reprogram odometer and engine hours on new evic with AlfaOBD

The EVIC mileage programming is coming very soon! Getting the video together now. From what I've seen, the steering wheel controls are plug and play (with the wheel+harness). Great idea on the Alfa content/slower...there is just so much content with it!

Do you need a bypass cable for 2021 RAM 2500? I’m using alfaobd app and OBDMX+ and everything is communicating, but not making the changes.

Hi Charles, I ran into some issues when changing the tire size.
After making those changes, when I go to ABS and try to select the Body Control Unit I do not get the ABS Ate/Continental.
I tried selecting my model and for some reason after connecting and opening the hood for the ABS Initialization, the start button never lids up.
Can you please assist me with this.
    Thanks in advance!

ABS ATE/Continental doesn’t show up in the list of options for my 2015 Ram 2500, I’m not really sure why lol. I tried it with a different one that has the model year range where 15 would fall in, but it wasn’t going to let me proceed so I backed out and am now redoing some more research…. Any idea why that would be the case on my end?

So in other words it wouldn’t let me get into the ABS static initialization so I had to revert back to what the settings were

You know, 2010 Ram 1500 had some 305/45r22 installed, then I decided to go for some MT tires, so I went for some 285/70r17 and there's when my trans started to feel a little bit rough, your know little shudder sometimes, I didn't know that when changing tire size you had to "tell your truck's computer "you did that. Gotta find a decent place with a decent scantool to fix that.

check the error codes and see what it's for. May or may not be related to changing the tire. Sometimes it just gets set off when changing other settings.

I've always wondered what if you had huge tires on but you program it for some small tires how would that affect the vehicle I wonder 🤔

    • @chazpages
      @chazpages  3 года назад

Haha, speedo would be way off and transmission might shift kind of funky...it could be done though! I’m unsure of just how big or small you can program though, I’d imagine there is a limit?

I tried following this procedure on my '21 Ram 2500 and was able to get to the ABS initialization step but when I go to click start, the option remains grayed out. I've double checked that I'm still connected. Have you heard of this issue/know of a fix for it? I was able to reverse the initial change to the tire size and clear all the faults that popped up but can't proceed until I can start the ABS procedure.

I just did this on my 2017 Ram 2500 and I was also unable to do the ABS init as it was greyed out. I proceeded with the rest of the steps and everything is working with the new tire size. I did have a check engine light which I was able to clear via my Edge Monitor. I read in an earlier comment that if your not getting an ABS error you don't need to reset it. Hopefully that is the case. Otherwise an excellent video presentation
