  • In todays video, as well as some photography, I'm delighted to be reviewing Charles from 3 Legged Thing. Charles (or Charles 2.0) is 3 Legged Things brand new addition to the Pro range of tripods (only announced on the 2nd May) and I have been fortunate enough to be able to get out and use it, and share my thoughts on it.
I hope you'll enjoy the video

Looks a great bit of kit, i purchased the original 3lt winston and still use it today, best tripod i ever owned. The customer service from 3lt is second to none, i am green with envy they reached out to you i love their gear. Nicely done mate :-)

It's a nice tripod and I can see me using on shorter trips when the weight is less of an issue. Completely agree about the customer service. Thank you for watching and commenting

Hi Ralph, nice looking tripod I’ve only got a K&F aluminium one which dose me fine, but if I’m in the market for a new one I will look at 3lt, nice shot you got again this week.

It's a nice tripod but in a slightly different cost bracket to most of the the K&F tripods. Glad you liked the images. Thank you for watching and commenting Allen

Seems to be a very sturdy tripod, Ralph. I am a huge fan of carbon fibre tripods though; the weight is a really decisive factor especially on tripods. I also agree with your view on 3 Legged Thing support, it is one of the best. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

It's very solid but, yes, the weight is a factor if you intend carrying it long distances but that does cost a bit more and I think 3LT have done something quite good with this as an option. Thank you for watching and commenting

I have the Corey travel tripod which is a great for carrying around in my backpack. It's a bit lightweight on occasions and I have been looking recently for a more stable tripod, most of which are fairly expensive. This Charles looks like a possible option. Thanks for your honest review.

Excellent, in-depth review. I prefer the lever type leg extension locks as I find them much faster to deploy and stow. Regarding heavier tripods equaling more stability, true but carrying a string bag and adding a few rocks or a piece of cord with a foot loop attached to the centre column compensates for lightness and both do not need to be hauled up a Lake District fell side. 😂. Another aspect that puts me off is the sheer folded size. It looks rather cumbersome. 3 legged are renowned for their quality but I'm not temped whilst their price reflects their engineering prowess. I fear the far East will steal their market share by copying their best design features.
But thank you for you efforts and as i am recently getting into panoramic imaging, I look forward to your next review.

Glad you enjoyed the review Berny. I used to prefer the lever style as well... until I had one fail on me and dump camera and lenses onto some rocks.. three filters and a filter holder had to be replaced! Yes, you can use extra weights but for some people a little bit extra weight in the tripod won't matter. It's quite a big tripod but no larger than many other three leg section 'pro' style. Thank you for watching and commenting
