Nowadays I don't believe there is anything I can do that hasn't been done before, somewhere or somehow. Cinema has been around for over 100 years. Nothing is new. There's nothing to fuck up beautifully when John Waters and hundreds of others have already came before me and fucked it up. It's done. The legacy is over. It's through.
What IS new is a world with people at each other's throats, reactive and hypocritical in ways that JW's generation would never have believed! Find a way to critique today's society with humor, and you'll be both doing something that has never been done before, and something that *needs* to be done like never before.
Great speech by Waters but that guy in the audience was so distracting. If you laugh like a chipmunk or Woody Woodpecker hopefully your friends care enough about you to tell you how annoying your laugh is. Even Waters was taken aback by the guy's laugh in that moment.
