- Einstein is a 1979 handheld electronic game in the style of Simon or Maniac. A progressively longer series of lights and sounds are presented and the player must match the sequence of be eliminated.
Jon found this one at a thrift shop for just $4 and it was labeled, "untested." Sounds suspicious to me - what are the odds this thing will actually power up?

Thanks!
My pleasure, Tree Riot. I truly enjoy sharing my little nostalgic thrift store finds with such welcoming viewers! 😀
Oh wow - what a blast from the past! I actually had one of these exact units as a kid. My family and I played it all the time, goodness knows how many sets of batteries we went through!
I'd daresay if you can open the unit, the blown bulb shouldn't be too hard to replace.
Thanks for the memories!!
Oh, this brings back memories!! Thank you!!
I know I’ve seen one of those. I don’t remember who I knew that had it, but I know I saw it at somebody’s house in the mid 80s! Simon was the mainstay but yeah, that’s a super cool find!
You've seen an Einstein in the wild, eh? Neat, Emceemur. Not sure if it's worth dismantling to try and replace the bulb or not. I may just leave well enough alone and add it to my shelf of vintage goodies.
I swear. You guys find the coolest stuff. ❤️❤️
Always on the search, Tommy! 🔎
I had this one. Loved it. Highlight was finishing it :)
Nice find!
Especially for the price, right? Thanks for watching, HHG! 😀
Wow for $4 what a find! Well done Jon, good hunting and a great video as always.
Thank you, Alan. It's hard for me to avoid stopping at a thrift store -- you just never know what might be awaiting you in there. 😀
@@GenXGrownUp im sure you already know but Atari made a small handheld Simon clone too called Touch Me.
@@alanjacobs5215 That's the one that looks like a Little Professor calculator, right? I'm vaguely aware of its existence, but I've never so much as laid my hands on one. But if one appears at a thrift store, I'm pulling the trigger! 🟥🟨🟩🟦
@@GenXGrownUp thats correct. I had 2 at one point, both working too. Like you I love everything and anything Atari.
I had one as a kid!
Cool!
I owned this when I was a kid. It was much cheaper than Simon. The same company also made an electronic version of Name That Tune. These could be found in the bargain basements of Sears stores in Eastern Canada.
Very cool, Mike. Do you still have yours, or was it lost to some random yard sale like so many of my childhood gizmos? 😉
@@GenXGrownUp Sadly it got lost. The only electronic game that survived the years is my Mattel Football 2. That's why your channel is so great, we get to see the stuff we grew up on.
You're too kind, @@mabrun001! Thanks, and I'm quite happy that you enjoy our work. 😀
Wow 👍🏽
Thanks 🤗
Why does my caveman brain get excited at the sound of someone opening a box containing a Genx toy? Also… love the “electronic font” on the sides. Keep’em coming! #pavlov
🛎️🐶💦
Notice how the placement of the colored lights and the switches don't match the picture on the box. Cool.
I didn't notice that until later re-watching this video. Maybe a later (or earlier) revision?
What a score for $41! See what reading and keeping the instructions can do? I sure hope you learned your lesson! lol!
This was a statistical anomaly, I say! Reading instructions is for the weak! 😉 Yeah, no chance I was throwing away vintage instructions, and for $4? Hell, I'm about as happy as can be. Thanks for watching, SoT!
Whoops, meant $4
@@cryptocoffee13 LOL - I figured it was a typo. I was with ya.
If The Pac-Man pocket player is the first My Arcade Pocket Player you done, you should to a video on the Dig Dug Pocket Player
I'll keep an eye out for a bargain. That's going for as much as $50 in some places now. 💸
I remember the commercial with the comedian who created the character of Raymond J. Johnson Junior...and you can call him Rsy, or you can call him J...
"Ya doesn't have to call me Johnson!"
@@GenXGrownUp 🤣🤣🤣
reminds me of the windows logo
Just bought this at a thrift store for 4$ today. In it's original box, it works, it's missing the battery cover for the C batteries...Someone put tape and foam over the speaker, the parents of the original owner must not have liked the volume of the sounds Einstein makes....Also missing the instruction manual. Mine has issues with loose batteries also....
Nice find! You could very likely find a model to 3D print a new battery cover.
