The ESC was upside down in my BNF E-flite 80m F-16. I thought it was odd that the aluminum heat sink was facing up thru the hole for the dorsal fin instead of down toward the air duct. When the motor shut down prematurely on the maiden flight, I set up the telemetry which showed the FET temperature in the Avian ESC was maxing out at 225 °F. The manual says it will shut it down at 230 °F. I went in and flipped it over and today it showed 197 °F in the 90° Texas heat. The motor now runs perfectly..
@@PiggoNZ I just rotated mine 180 degrees to the normal position and it hasn’t overheated again. I’ve seen where some rotate theirs 90 degrees which makes it protrude into the duct. I don’t take mine to the field when it’s warmer than 90 degrees F..
@@PiggoNZ Well, it’s been a while since the last time I’ve flown it. I get a high current alarm right after takeoff, but none after that. I never get any temperature alarms. I need to fly it with my iX14 now that I know about its telemetry log.

HI, Brian been watching your videos for a while and love the content you are so right about how easy it is to ding or cut the foam with a finger nail did it on my first HK-F4U Corsair a good tip for all flyers watching

hi Brian ! wow nice one , it's a beautiful war plane ! like to unbox a plane without sticker, then you can make your own design. love that ! your wife does a great job with the cam like a professional ! 🎥🎬💙
Love your videos, I just recently got into RC planes a few months ago and I’ve gotten 3 aircraft based on your reviews! Wish I would’ve taken all your propeller safety warnings more seriously though lol last night my Eflite F4U-4 Corsair 1.2m prop took a chunk out of my forearm, thought the throttle cutoff was enabled and the throttle got bumped to almost full power. Cut down almost to the bone about a 1/2” wide and 2” long luckily it only sliced the tendon and muscle to my hand no nerve damage so I’ll be able to heal fully. Definitely going to be more careful from now on! Wish I could show you a picture of the wound lol
As usual, brilliant, detailed and entertaining! Not building any plane anymore without watching your build and radio set-ups anymore! Cudos from Switzerland to both Brian and his lovely cameracrew! Question: What about the optional afterburners?
She clearly said verticals first lol As always, great video. Not a fan of unboxing, but this plane has my attention. Same power plant as the Rafale I have so folks it’s going to sound fantastic.
@@BrianPhillipsRC That does make sense. I have the 80mm F18 as well and it does sound better than the Rafale as far as “jet” sounds go. The Rafale sounds good, but it is muted a little, like a jet with a muffler. It’s still a good sound though.
The thing is, I would really worry, what if the jet came down and hit someone - this jet is very big and powerful...definitely take it to an abandoned field or empty huge lot or something.
Oh man. I know a few regulars at the lhs that would love one of these. 180th fighter wing decals, sure to be a hit here. See these flying overhead for training exercises almost every day

The gear are solid, but the nose gear, true to scale half yoke design makes it not nice when you hit HUGE bumps...which is pretty obvious, after all....but when you're landing on a wider and longer strip with easier approach, you'll be 100% fine. On a Geotextile strip, this plane would be flawless, but even short grass, if perfectly or very well manicured, you might be okay. We're fighting so hard to get our grass to fill in on either side of our runway, but it's been so dang dry...we FINALLY are getting some rain today, but prior to this rain, we've had maybe two 1-2 hour drizzles this spirng...we need more rain to help us get this last $600+ worth of seed to take. It's not going to be bad when it does take thought, since I'll try to top dress around the driveway and get it really smooth. I used to be able to overshoot and keep mostly away from damage, but seems the patchiness is exacerbated by our current pseudo-drought conditions here in spring.
Love it! Would be great if it has flaperon. 1:07:08 I didn't know you could actually set up flaperon with the AR637T? Would AS3X and SAFE be working at the same time? BTW I was commenting on a HH video asking for a 64mm 737 to be released. They replied to me said, "1000% agree". lol
Random question! I really want some of those ball link pliers you use on the elevons. Can you please tell me what size they are? Or model? I'm looking at some "5mm ball link pliers" online, would those work, do you think?
Thanks for the question... and the Super Thanks! We've had a couple different pairs, but these seem pretty close... amzn.to/3r7UK3r The description says "Ball Opening: around 4.5mm" so 5mm is probably pretty close. Hope you find some you like!
Just got my F-16 and maidened this weekend! She's awesome! I see now that the manual (pg 14) calls for low throttle and low throttle trim before binding. I didn't do this (trim). Am I cheating myself out of some additional thrust?
Great info!, excellent resource. did you configure Pole info for correct RPM telemetry under smart ESC status ? can't find correct pole info for this motor. Few months out for flight on the F16 for me but learned a lot on NX8, Mixing , flaperons ect. thanks again.
I'm getting back into this hobby and just purchased the Air-Tractor 1.5. I'm not sure I purchased the correct battery that Horizon Hobby recommended on their site. I'm new to electric and didn't want to make a costly mistake. Horizon Hobby stated the 14.8V 2200mAh 4S 100C Smart LiPo Battery: IC3 was okay for their stock configuration. The "100C" on the battery is my question as I didn't want to over power this planes electronics? Best regards and you're the best. Thanks SW
Battery does NOT balance itself like you state at 31:05. That is why the balancing leads are there. YES you can charge it without the balance lead and that is a "At your own risk" situation.
SMART batteries DO, in fact, balance themselves unless they are defective. This is a principal feature of G1 and G2 packs, whereas the G2 packs are more capable of speedy balancing. It's okay not to know everything. I learn tons of new things everyday. Going around correcting people when you have no clue will wear you out and really hurt other's perception of you. It will close off future opportunities you might otherwise experience.
Hey Brian, I see that to set the safe select you do the button back and forth 12 times. The manual says 5 times. So that would be 10 times up and down. Why did you do that? I hope you can still answer after a year. Greetings, René
I love this plane. Question, I fly professional large scale drones with a lot of various types of equipment aboard. The last plane I flew was 30 plus years ago. I have a Spectrum DX18 gen 2 and DX9 bronze colored. What determines level 3 ability. Part 2, if I were to get this jet but also purchase a training jet, what would you recommend? Thanks for any advice.
I'm totally with you on foregoing the tail art. I wasn't a crew chief, so that sort of thing meant nothing to me. There are so many awesome large scale planes that I was always a fan of growing up, I just don't know where I'd put them b/c I've also gotten back into RC cars, and 1:5 scale cars take up space very quickly. Do you hang your plans on the wall to save space? I'm new to your channel, so I don't know if you are just reviewing these, or if you actually buy and keep them. The A-10 is another one I absolutely need in my life.
We put them in the basement. The room is BIG and FULL with planes everywhere....stacked on the wall, hanging from the ceiling, on tables and under tables alike...everywhere.
Brian you have got to try out the Durafly Tundra from HK..just sayin its one of the best in my opinion. Now this F-16 is sweet but the flight times too short for me.
We haven't worked with Hobbyking for some time. I'd like to work with them, but they have a pretty poor offering for us, so we've just decided to put our efforts elsewhere. Sorry to disappoint Aaron
We will get it as an early shipment, but we don't know when yet, but for the record, I would not be at liberty to speak of such things if I DID know, but in this particular situation, I can say we just don't know yet.
I live in Arkansas winters are mild. But the problem is work 18wheeler. I love the hobby its addicting, like buying and shooting guns once you get one you have to get another.
I don't know...depends on how it's used, not how many charges, in my estimation. I haven't bothered with the charge counter, I don't care how many times I've charged them, BUT it would be nice to tell the lipos apart, I guess.
I would be lying if I said I had firsthand experience ;(.... I've been told this is better, but it was by an "interested party"...thus I have disqualified it for the moment, until I hear it from an uninterested party a few times....hope you can understand what I'm saying without saying it ;)
I received a Cirrus from Horizon with a damaged rudder and they never replaced it so I will never order from them again! Best to buy from a hobby shop so they can send back if damaged.
Question I pre ordered this jet. How does it fly and how does it fly with safe in comparison to other eflite jets with safe. Is it heavy like the f18 which takes forever to turn with safe on and is heavy. Thanks for your input. Just wanted to know before I crash it. Lol
Erin, the F-16 flies less heavy than the F-18, but more heavy than the 70mm F-16 Thunderbird. It's Absolutely gorgeous, and I want to have some private time with it every time I walk by - similar to the camera crew ;) - it's a bit distracting. Make sure you drape a sheet over it so you can get other things done around the house. Don't just leave it out, or you may decide to quit your job and just stare at it. Oh yeah, and I would encourage you to have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG runway, and make a plan for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG rollout too. If you have a 3 minute flight, plan for the maiden to be something like this - Takeoff, one pass, one more pass, then practice land it, and land it. If you have extra - USE DISCIPLINE and put in a fresh battery. Repeat for two or more flights, and you will thank me. This plane is NOT hard to fly, but it's not easy to land. The landing gear are super resilient, but you HAVE to fly it into the ground, almost perfectly if you want to land on a postage stamp / aircraft carrier like my driveway! P.S. It is great. I love it very much. It's expensive, so you will be PISSED if you break off the tip, like I did, but the whole nose section is easily replaceable, SO DON'T DROP IT BECAUSE YOU WERE HOLDING IT BY THE NOSE - I about did this on both this and the F-18 ;) Did I miss anything? You will LOVE IT!
I heard u, that u don't wanna do SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON to not offend certain brands, but u used to, and 70+ mm EDF class F16s and earlier 1200mm class T-28s was perfect opportunity for comparison. This F-16 on authenticity & finish is in the league of Tamiya model kits - way superior than any RC jet except Arrows F15 twin EDF, as EPO bubbles r invisible.
I don't really care about pissing off the brands as much as the timing of the videos makes it really hard for us to do it at early release stage. For SECOND THOUGHTS, we have more latitude, and would be willing to do something like this.
@@BrianPhillipsRC , i didn’t know you wanted a permanent mark on your aircraft for cg and throws. i use a low adhesive tape when building model rockets so I dont pull up paint.
@@BrianPhillipsRC okies. Cus when i searched FMS 80mm f-16 I got the exact same thing. same dimensions, same decal, same features. even the package layout is the same, just that different manual and box print with one saying FMS one saying EFLITE. I think these products came from the same manufacture sold under different brand. hah!
I don’t know about you, but I feel like the g2 packs are more powerful than the g1 packs. For example, whenever I use a g1 30c on my plane, it has nice power, but when I use the g2 30c it feels even more powerful. It could just be in my head, but I definitely think that g2 packs are more powerful than g1.
I think they ARE more capable of re-balancing during high discharge cycles, but I can't say I notice an appreciable difference. That being said, I've run them SOOOOO much longer than they're supposed to run, and near 0% consequences ;)
I was wrong I didn’t have the other elevator hooked up so when I was moving the roll axis it was moving the right one I didn’t realize I was pulling them both at the same time, you still have to do all the mixing and stuff that you did but flaparons are working. Great video keep up the great content.

The manual says 5 times. So that would be 10 times up and down. Why did you do that? I hope you can still answer after a year.
Greetings, René
Up and Down = 1 for what the manual calls for...I say Up=1, down=2, up=3 (that's why I say 10 or more times)
Nothing wrong with your Tx! Just update the Firmware and you're off to the races!
Are you goong to be at the iowa city aerohawk event next weekend?
I don't have any plans, since I'm not in that club, and it's a little over 2 hours drive from here.
Was I expected?
You’ve helped me so much with decisions on planes. Now i need to know if you had to choose, for yourself. F16 or F18 80mm? :)
Best f -16
100%
You should by a silver Sharpie for your gray warbirds.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I get it..you've got the best RC channel in my opinion..keep up the good work.
Do Not Paint...means the radom because it can affect the radar operation/signal transmission and receiver.
Nice! Cool they got that detail!
Love it! 👍👍👍👍😎😎
Me too, thanks!
Will you be getting the eflite f14 when I comes out
We will get it as an early shipment, but we don't know when yet, but for the record, I would not be at liberty to speak of such things if I DID know, but in this particular situation, I can say we just don't know yet.
does this airplane have sound generator or does the motor itself make the turbine whoosh sound?
100% natural ;)
Just got Draco. Tempted to pull the trigger on this one lol.
It is VERY good!!! We got some new footage coming too, and a few projects yet to film on this one too!
I wish you would go more into detail on how to program the remote. Go step by step and explain everything without rushing.
I know one ting for sure. Those screws won't fall off. 😂 lol
LOL ;)
This is Slightly larger than the 70mm Thunderbird. I think it’s 7 to 8 inches bigger
yep, you can see the difference with this link - F16 bit.ly/3bUUxXv
Hi Brian, I need a little help where do I find the FOWARD PROGRAMMING MENUE on my DX6E transmitter to set up my Ar631 recoever
Gotta check these two things...
1) Is your FIRMWARE UPDATED?
2) Is your model on and bound?
With those ordinates to be honest I could probably fit a high power rocket motor in them
yes, possibly, but don't share the video as it would be illegal to use such a device from RC ;(
@@BrianPhillipsRC Yeah, someone at my rocketry club said it would be a good idea. Spoiler Alert, it’s not
I wanna buy one now. 3 planes now. Sad thing I have yet to open the boxes.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - winter is coming!!!
I live in Arkansas winters are mild. But the problem is work 18wheeler. I love the hobby its addicting, like buying and shooting guns once you get one you have to get another.
Is there anything plugged into channel 6 in the receiver port?
Yes, I think it's the cable for the LED Afterburner ring, possibly?
How many charges can you get out of the battery and why does mine says I have 50 charges already does it count every time you plug it in or what
I don't know...depends on how it's used, not how many charges, in my estimation. I haven't bothered with the charge counter, I don't care how many times I've charged them, BUT it would be nice to tell the lipos apart, I guess.
which transmitter did you buy? can you send the link please

@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you!!
Next EDF plane for me.
Awesome!!!
Is this the most realistic sounding edf ever?
I love the way it sounds - it is spectacular!
Is this BNF or ARF? ARF is the version where you buy your own motor right?
BNF and ARF Plus
How does it compare to the freewing F16. ?
I would be lying if I said I had firsthand experience ;(.... I've been told this is better, but it was by an "interested party"...thus I have disqualified it for the moment, until I hear it from an uninterested party a few times....hope you can understand what I'm saying without saying it ;)
Great job
I received a Cirrus from Horizon with a damaged rudder and they never replaced it so I will never order from them again! Best to buy from a hobby shop so they can send back if damaged.
Ummmmm....well, maybe you shouldn't have taken NO for an answer.
I would have never let them get away with that.
It's expensive, so you will be PISSED if you break off the tip, like I did, but the whole nose section is easily replaceable, SO DON'T DROP IT BECAUSE YOU WERE HOLDING IT BY THE NOSE - I about did this on both this and the F-18 ;)
Did I miss anything? You will LOVE IT!
@@BrianPhillipsRC awesome thanks for the information!!
#ordered, brian's link as always.
Thanks Ryker RC!!!
Brian. Did you prefer the f16 or the blue angles f18?
F-16. Flies lighter, but the F-18 is easier to land on our driveway :)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Cool. Would you say the f-16 is easier to fly or about the same?
Does anyone have else’s remote just day rates and expo not dual rates?
Dual Rates and Expo are usually a feature working together in most systems.
Can I fly this with a taranis qx7?
You can fly any plane with any radio system, if you get the Rx, but I know nothing about Taranis
@@BrianPhillipsRC That would make 2nd thoughts videos lot more interesting
Low adhesion tape i stead of marker ?
I don't understand the context for your comment.
@@BrianPhillipsRC , i didn’t know you wanted a permanent mark on your aircraft for cg and throws. i use a low adhesive tape when building model rockets so I dont pull up paint.
Do you think this plane is worth it even if I already have the EFLITE F-16 Thunderbird 70mm?
ABSOLUTELY. She's Twice the plane as her predecessor.
so who makes this? FMS or EFLITE?
This is an Eflite product
@@BrianPhillipsRC okies. Cus when i searched FMS 80mm f-16 I got the exact same thing. same dimensions, same decal, same features. even the package layout is the same, just that different manual and box print with one saying FMS one saying EFLITE. I think these products came from the same manufacture sold under different brand. hah!
Did anyone have trouble getting the 80mm eflite f16 off of grass
I can't believe anyone got it off grass at all! It's got balls, but grass and F-16's in my experience only get along at a golf course :)
Eflite:( you didn't the freewing? Why?
I made my fms 70mm an alabamain Red tail.
Gonna look good once finished
Freewing under lil wingys don't get damaged. Cause 1 they come of 2 there not Foam.
There 🪵
Because they don't work with us. I've asked Motion RC and they've said no.
Got mine on the 14th lm going to maiden my p 51 first top flight 90 tiger about 3 gran wish me luck please
Is this foam?
YES
I don’t know about you, but I feel like the g2 packs are more powerful than the g1 packs. For example, whenever I use a g1 30c on my plane, it has nice power, but when I use the g2 30c it feels even more powerful. It could just be in my head, but I definitely think that g2 packs are more powerful than g1.
I think they ARE more capable of re-balancing during high discharge cycles, but I can't say I notice an appreciable difference. That being said, I've run them SOOOOO much longer than they're supposed to run, and near 0% consequences ;)
Love a smaller nut sac🤣🤣🤣
LOL!! That rhymes with scrynam!!!
Sure does ;)
Wow
I think so!!! Awesome planes back to back - I'm loving this stuff, but it is taxing on a poor RUclipsr's camera crew - LOL ;)
Eflite must have watched you’re video because when i bound mine, televons and flapperons are functional. Suck a beautiful plane
Nice!!!! Very glad to hear!
I was wrong I didn’t have the other elevator hooked up so when I was moving the roll axis it was moving the right one I didn’t realize I was pulling them both at the same time, you still have to do all the mixing and stuff that you did but flaparons are working. Great video keep up the great content.
It be cool if they make the whole thing plastic
It would be insanely heavy, but I agree, we're getting close to a very thin plastic shell design, and that would be AMAZING!!!
