It’s a soprano sax. Cole Burgess also plays on a few other tracks on the “Me and My Guitar” album. Tony listened to John Coltrane a lot. Tony’s version of “My Favorite Things” on “Backwaters” show Trane’s influence.
Tony,Wyatt, My cousin, and myself on the top deck of the WV Belle 1990 talking and getting to know them was remarkable! I hope someone had that show recorded. He was an honorable man who took his work seriously as Wyatt didn't talk much that night, but also full of character! Invited us to their Motel room after the show and I didn't go due to not getting of the boat until relatively late, was an all day cruise and remember that to be a great show as I hope it will surface sometime?
Rest In Peace, Tony. Thank you for making my childhood rememberable
My favorite Tony Rice album
His version of this song is heartbreaking and stunningly beautiful!
Wow, the oboe with a little Bluegrass. How eclectic is that👏👏👏
