So if they went out there and didn’t do any of the pushy shovey crap and still lost by 32 points then no doubt people would still be calling them soft and that they didn’t care enough. But instead they go out there more aggressive and are now being called embarrassing for being too aggressive and making it seem “fake” (which it did seem a bit forced at times). But the point is either way the Media and everyone were still gonna crap on them regardless since they had basically no chance of actually beating the Tigers. Hell even if they played the game of their lives and bet Richmond then they’d still get picked apart with the whole “where’s that been all year?” Comments. Let’s just face it they overachieved last year and everyone had unrealistic expectations of where the bombers were at and how well they were gonna do this year. And now since they’ve backslid a little bit and gotten worse it’s making them look even worse due to where everyone was expecting them to be. Realistically last year they were a team that probably deserved to finish between 10-12th but got a bit lucky and squeezed into 8th. So now they’ve dropped off a bit they’re back to being an actual bottom team that’s probably gonna finish between 12th and 16th so yeah they haven’t really dropped that far from last year and people were just overhyping them at the end of last year. People were making out that Essendon were gonna be a solid top 8 team this year and really push for finals when in reality last year they didn’t beat anyone of note aside from the doggies, but even then the bombers beat them when they were playing like crap. This is coming from an Essendon supporter who is disappointed with how they’re going and playing, but not because they aren’t playing at the level of a top 8 team because I didn’t believe for a second they were gonna be good enough for that this year. Only just lost the contested possessions, edged Richmond in clearances and laid more tackles. I’d say the Bombers showed more toughness than the cherry picked clips shown by Cornes. What killed them were the terrible entries into the forward 50 which played into Richmond’s rebounding run and gun style.
Gotta remember too that players from other clubs would be sledging Essendon about getting ripped in the media, that rightly so would frustrate the Essendon boys
