It’s the first time I have visited your channel. Very good reaction. Yes, you got it. As Kate explained in so many words, it’s about tackling the difficulties all couples have of not fully understanding how each other feels. Swapping places for a while would lead to better understanding and fewer problems. As for Kate Bush/Madonna influencing, if there was any it would have run from Kate to Madonna. Kate had already released four albums before Madonna released her first in July 1983, and would have written most of her Hounds of Love material by then also (including ‘Running Up That Hill’, written summer 1983). There wasn’t much crossover in style between the two women. Madonna was an American singer/songwriter/producer who wrote and performed for American mainstream tastes at that time. Kate was a British singer/songwriter/pianist/composer/producer/dancer/mime/choreographer/video director associated more with art pop/art rock/prog rock. She never toured in America and did only the bare minimum to promote her albums. Kate didn’t get played much on American radio before ‘Running Up That Hill’ in 1985 but did enjoy a strong cult following due to college radio. Both women were very sensual and sexual in their writing and performing but they presented this very differently - Madonna being more blunt and in your face with it and with the emphasis on sexuality, Kate being more poetic and witchy with the emphasis being on sensuality. Kate was very much ahead of her time in writing, composition and production. The list of artist coming after her who cite her as a major influence is immense. She only toured once in 1979 (in the UK and Europe) when she was 20. She surprised everyone when she returned to the stage at the age of 56 in 2014 with a 6-week residency at London’s Hammersmith Apollo. All 70,000 tickets sold out within 15 minutes and Madonna was one of the many VIPs from all over the world to fly to the UK to see these shows. As a biased Brit I believe Kate Bush to be the greatest ever female artist.

A quick background summary of Kate Bush, Kate started writing songs at about 11 years old, adding more complex lyrics from 13 onwards. By her mid-teens she had written more than a hundred songs (some reports say nearer two hundred), the family made demo recordings of about fifty, in an attempt to attract the attention of record companies without any success. Until a friend of family passed the demos to David Gilmour guitarist for pink Floyd, he was interested and ultimately paid for time at studio with session musicians to make professional recordings of three songs from Kate extensive catalogue which he selected. It was those professional recordings that he passed onto EMI executives when he was asked about new talents - when EMI listened they wanted to sign Kate up immediately, but they had to wait until she had left school, Kate signed for EMI when she was 16 years old.
EMI paid Kate a retainer which she used to improve her piano playing, voice lessons and also dance & mime lessons from Lindsay Kemp (who had also taught David Bowie dance). Kate also fronted a pub band that one of her brothers had put together. Eventually EMI called Kate back to work on her debut album "The Kick Inside" although two songs were taken from the professional recordings that Davie Gilmour had paid for - one of those songs was written when she was 13.
Kate's debut single "Wuthering Heights" was released in January 1978 and it was so different to everything else in the singles chart and became a massive worldwide hit, reaching number in a number of countries around the world and charting highly in others. When it got to number 1 in the UK, Kate became the first female artist to have a self written song reach number one, the 1st of numerous records and milestones that Kate has set in the UK and album charts.
When "The Kick Inside" was released later in 1978, it sold a million copies in the UK and reached number three in the album chart.
Kate is multi-talented a singer/songwriter, musician, dancer, record producer, video producer and director. Kate was also heavily involved in the staging of both of her concert tours - 1979 "Tour Of Life" and the 2014 concert residency "Before The Dawn". Kate has inspired/influenced countless numbers of artists/musicians who followed her, she is considered to be a musical icon and pioneer.
Kate was credited as a co-producer on her third album "Never For Ever" and was the sole producer on her fourth album "The Dreaming" and every subsequent studio album.
If you're interested in listening to more Kate Bush songs I and many other Kate Bush fans will be happy to provide suggestions.

Kate's a musical genius. Self taught on the piano and had a 4 Octave range. If you chose to delve deep into her music, the first thing you'll learn is to expect the unexpected. Nothing cookie cutter about our Kate.

David Gilmour helped Kate get on the map. "Cloudbusting" and "Jig of Life" are my favorite from the album but the whole album is fantastic. Well done art-pop.

Aaaah, the beautiful haunting song of a relationship between a man and a woman and trying to understand the emotions of each other and asking god to swap their places to be able to understand one another. Glad you reacted to this. I would highly recommend Hello Earth by Kate Bush

Spot on. Not sure that Kate took much inspiration from Madonna, but her 1979 tour was an innovative tour de force of dance, mime and theatre, as well as impressive musicality, and set a bar for other artists performing live shows in the eighties.
Kate Bush's extensive catalogue of songs, spread across 10 studio albums and other recordings, is an eclectic treasure trove of musically and lyrically complex stories. She is one of the geniuses of English pop/rock, and an artist of incomparable integrity. You should definitely try some more!
PS. If you would like an overview of her career, the 2014 BBC documentary, The Kate Bush Story, is on YT, and features fascinating commentary from many notable musicians with whom she has collaborated, including Dave Gilmour, Peter Gabriel and Elton John.
