I think the advantage using this card can withdraw cash with smaller fee rather directly use credit card (Mine is RM20 or 5% of withdrawn amount, whichever is higher) . hahaha
Not yet. In March 2023, Transport Minister, Anthony Loke has mentioned that he has instructed Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (The operator for Rapid KL Trains and Buses) and KTM Berhad to adopt an open payment system. There has not been any further updates on this since then.
TNG should focus on improving RFID lane and availability for NFC TNG card instead of issuing visa linked cards to generate more income in the market which they have already monopolised.
Launched a unfinished product. Better to just focus on making multi purpose toll lanes where each lane allows people to use TnG card / Smart Tag / RFID, so all lanes can be utilize equally.
The future is removing all physical toll booth lanes with multi lane free flow (MLFF). For that to happen, the government needs to revise its legal framework to tackle toll evaders, ensure open payment to accept more digital payments other than TNG, number plate design enforcement and standardised RFID for all vehicles either by roadtax or embedded number plate.
I thought we are trying so hard to move away from physical cards by having virtual e-wallets but now, we are back to square one by having a physical visa debit cards linked to a e-wallet just like an ATM card linked to a bank account. What the heck is going on ? This is going backward rather than going forward. A big set back.
Not everyone supports QR payments and cross border QR acceptance worldwide will still take some time. The Visa card enables worldwide acceptance immediately.
Physical cards still make sense as you definitely want an alternative payment other than your smartphone due to understandable circumstances such as accommodating moments where there's no cellular signal, battery died, and etc. There was actually many legit times where the underground grocery stores I've went and I had trouble paying with TNG so having my card with me was an absolute save 😅. Also, VISA, Mastercard, and etc cards have their advantages wherein you can use them worldwide compared to completely relying on our local ewallet as it's not exactly realistic to expect hundreds of other countries to accept QR payments so flexibly yet in the foreseeable future due to deep rooted consumer traditions or bank regulations.

Just ensure your TNG eWallet has sufficient balance. The Visa card deducts straight from the eWallet balance.
