Condensed version: Our box is still vaporware and oh btw we're probably putting DRM in our cores. Also, even though moving cores from mister to mars will be so trivial that all mister cores will be available on mars day one, of course it won't work the other way. That requires too much work. Open source? Yeah maybe at some point, but nothing concrete. Some folks reported that most of us will no longer be bringing our cores to mister. How dare you. We never said that. Finally, most of us will no longer be bringing our cores to mister...
Reading comprehension is at an all time low. Have you ever worked in software? Taking something that works on a larger machine and porting it to work on a smaller machine can require concessions. Especially if we're talking accuracy. It's like you're saying you're upset that the Lion King on SNES looks better than it does on the NES. "Of course it won't work the other way." How dare people be entitled to the fruits of their own labor. Don't they know that @DJ_Good_News needs free stuff?
They’re free to split the community and take the open source contributions of others to their competing box while being wishy washy about maybe someday doing the same with their own cores and adding drm. I don’t have to respect them for it though.
@@DJ_Good_News Do you respect Jotego then? He does a similar thing with his cores, they are just doing the same model.
@g0dhard no he doesn't. All released cores are open source, while they're in beta his patreon supporters can try them. This is completely different from the nonsense tactics the Mars team pulls.
@@RetroRockGamer That's exactly the model Coin OP Collection have said they are going to use, so not sure what your point is?
All I get from these posts is we are excluding MiSTer FPGA. Definitely not buying MARS.
It seems that three out of the four won't be developing for MiSTer, well at least not for the foreseeable future. Although this is not great news, ultimately, it's up to them how they spend their time.
Are the cores open source? Anyone can port them.
@@Red_Panduhsome are, some aren’t. :/ This just smacks of butt-hurt. The last thing the community needs is division. Hope the cores do all go open source.
Yeah, hope they're open source. Sounds like a good bit of focus on the Pocket as well though.
I'm sure the framework for MARS will be constructed to make ports back to MiSTER as difficult as possible.
Everyone loves Sorg and his friendly open source approach (buildroot cough cough), what are you talking about?
I hope they make it easier but it's not like they should sabotage themselves in order to support a lower spec'd platform. As long as they keep a fair bit of things open source, those framework requirements can always be updated.
I just love the news you deliver with that infectious enthusiasm. Your voice is soothing.
Haha, thanks. Listening back to my voice, I'm not a fan, but this is the case with most people that hear their own voice.
Appreciate you a lot PCN. Seeing a new video of yours on my feed is always a treat.
Thanks, and I appreciate your support for the length of time you've been on this channel. I wish you only happy thoughts.
i would say not buying mars and enjoying my freedom on MISTer ^^ not supporting this gatekeeping
How is this gatekeeping...?
Great way to enjoy my evening seeing PCN in action. First video for the night. 8^)
Anthony..
Thanks Anthony, have a great night.
It's a real shame that coin op collection is focusing solely on mars. And that's crap about the MiSTer having technical limitations pramod and others are trying to push the community away from MiSTer and towards mars, which is a closed source for profit product.
but its true they are not talking out of there ass on the bandwidth issues start saving up your money for a MARS or Replay2 fpga system
At this point I wouldn't be opposed to future cores being closed source for MiSTer FPGA until their attitude changes. I don't see why MARS should ride on the shoulders of MiSTer and not give back.
Mister is closed source (Sorg is holding some files hostage) as well and stole / ported most cores from other platforms, often without crediting original authors. Wake up. If you are not happy about someone's product, good news, you can make your own and stop complaining like a french woman.
@@Reprogrammed_By_SEGA they cant close source since nearly all MiSTer cores are stolen from other projects.
Bandwidth issues are real. Pretending like the MiSTer doesn't have countless workarounds for a lot of its cores is just asinine. "Next gen" FPGAs have been ideas that people were playing with for years. Don't joke like you're just now realizing that there are a fair number of people who do want something bigger.
That said, the post literally goes into how they're individually working on things and they can each choose to do what they want with their work. Just because some want to develop for a different platform doesn't mean others aren't going to keep supporting MiSTer. Heck, the post even said that quite a lot of it will become open source after a certain amount of time. If you're so keen on MiSTer, take their open source work and port it.
In the meantime, I'll keep enjoying my MiSTers and hoping things like Replay2, mistex, and mars all come to be great products.
The day Turtles in Time gets ported will be a happy day for me.
I don't think we have an FPGA core of that yet, but absolutely, it'll be a great and very welcome addition.
pramod has said and confirmed a couple times that his raizing cores that are based on the toaplan2 hardware are faster than the PCB in some cases (batrider being the most noticeable) like faster input lag than the PCB
but somehow atrac17s toaplan2 core is 5 frames behind the PCB ....... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Personally…i think this is really exciting. To be clear if I want to check out the new versions of say Truxton 2 and Outzone on Mister, I just need to pay for access? Cause i’m fully down. I will gladly pay for quality cores.
I'm not sure if Out Zone received an update, Truxton II definitely did though.
Btw, did you pick up on the soundtrack that was used in this video?
I surely did sir :) I am a massive fan, and would love to play those on Mister over Shmupmame. Sorry I think I’m just confused, the new version of Truxton 2 should come down with an updateall update? Also thank you for all the content and heads up! :)
@@TheHiddenFortress81 I haven't updated my MiSTer yet, but can confirm that the Analogue Pocket version was updated. No reason why the MiSTer would update.
Well whether it’s the Pocket or the Mister I’m playing some Truxton 2 tonight!
Also, speaking of the Outzone music, I could fully be wrong, and if I am, good. But I think that music doesn’t sound right in the current FPGA core like it does in your video.
Sounds like Batsugun will come to MiSTer but with 5 frames of lag, probably - was that also what you gathered from the post pcn?
Also: ANALOGIZER
I think the 5 frames of lag was referring to Toaplan 2 games.
@@PixelCherryNinja yes me too, Batsugun being one of the Toaplan games (:
5 frames of lag would be miserable. May as well not release it.
@@Red_Panduh i agree. i would ask Jotego or Pramod for help and try to do better than 5 frames. thats basically unplayable
@@youtibbles2546 Yeah, for real. 5 frames is like 70+ms. Wild.
