@@blachloch1 Actually, the 80s were far rougher, refs were far less likely to call fouls. Shaq would've been physically dominant, but he also would have been beat up more and less effective. Shaq always praises Olajuwan for schooling him with all those moves. Well, in the 80s Olajuwan was there alongside Sampson, McHale was there with Parish, there were guys like Mahorn and Rodman who would have punched and elbowed Shaq all night long without accruing fouls. Don't forget guys like Moses Malone either. And then you had Kareem that would've been shooting midrange skyhooks all night long with Shaq unable to block them, forcing him out of the paint. The big men in the 80s were far superior than the ones he played against in the 90s. Who, by the way, were also there as rookies; Robinson, Ewing, Smits, Daugherty.
I love McHale, but that should have been Bird's moment. Kevin missed a routine rebound off KAJ's FT or he got fouled and the ref blew it. Just one of those moments.
I'm glad Charles pointed out the absurd double standard people have when talking about the Pistons. Celtics are my team but they were just as physical. Does no one remember Mchale Clotheslining Kurt Rambis or Magic Elbowing Zeke in the face in game 1 of the finals? The Celtics walked off without shaking hands with Pistons after losing to them (except for Mchale who dapped up Zeke) 2 years before the Pistons did it to Chicago. I hate the revisionist bullshit that happens. Don't even get me started on the idiots who have never even seen the 1985 allstar game and swear blind that Zeke froze out Jordan when Jordan went 2-17 and was on the same court as Bird, Dr J, Zeke and Parish and Jordan was the rookie. Like you aren't getting frozen out, you're playing with established legends before you've properly made a name for yourself ofc Jordan's not gunna get 90% of the possesions like he did with the bulls, that doesn't mean you're getting frozen out. Chicago and Detroit weren't even Rivals at that point, the Bulls weren't even a minor threat. Dude's lucky he got 17 shots...

You know Shaq sitting there listening thinking “I dunk on all y’all if I was playing back then”
Nobody gives a rat's behind what Shaq thinks....
@@julianmarsh1378 lol yeah your probably right 😂....thanks for commenting, shows you give a rats behind about my comment tho 🙌🏾
Nah back then they'd have called an offensive foul when he lowered that shoulder and shoved people out of the way.
And I still can't tell who touched that ball last. They probably would STILL be looking at the replay if they had it back then!!! LOL
im a laker fan that loves kevin mchale does that make me weird
D. Scott was the odd man out
I'm glad Charles pointed out the absurd double standard people have when talking about the Pistons.
Difference is Celtics wouldn’t go out of their way to hurt you
Laimbeer would literally aim to hurt you
@@jsofianos I again refer you to Mchale clotheslining Rambis. That's genuinely worse than anything Laimbeer did.
Shaq makes one comment, but it was a funny one!!
McHale missed a great opportunity to tell Shaq the IcyHot would’ve been nice, but Shaq was only 15 years old!
As a Celtics fan, the only negative about this video was Thomas speaking. Some old habits never die.
McHale is the most comparable post-1980 player to George Mikan.
Almost exactly the same size, almost the same style of play.
But he also had a good outside shot. Rarely needed it because his post moves were so good, but he could kill you from the top of the key -- and often did as he got older.
Always count on Shaq for the shameless plug! XD
“Male Gorilla... might be Laimbeer’s”
Shaq is sitting there and listening daddies' talk
to this day i don’t know who Isiah is
Wow 2 months playing on a broken foot! unlike Simmons who didn't play because of "mental health" issues
How good would it be to have 🍻s with Kevin McHale?
Like the hook dint take 3 steps
It's like shaq and Dennis wasn't even there
We are getn old folks. Im the 32nd person to comment. That's age for ya.
God i miss these guys on the basketball court i don't even watch the nba and miss it so bad ain't worth watching anymore waste of time

The trainers and medical staff were understandably terrible in the 80s. Allowing McHale play 2 months with a foot fracture? Yikes….
