I did my apprenticeship on Ford's over 55 yrs ago and I recall a senior mechanic who was w/o r king on an old Ford Blitz with a v8 side valve . He called me over and told me to listen to the sweetest running engine I will ever hear. I had to agree. 👍
2:20 That's what a P-51 Mustang sounds like inside the cockpit in flight. It sounds pretty tame while the spectators on the ground get a much better sound.
It's going on 69 years since they were last made (68 in Canada) and people still love the flatty. SO glad your rod has a flatty instead of a small block Chevy in it.
Cool!!! I've never seen a marine flathead V8!!! I use to know an old beautifully restored Criscraft with 2 Chrysler flathead straight sixes, never seen a V8.
Wow some of those are so sweet. My Grandad had a Ford Mainline utility in Australia. I was pretty sure they were fitted with sidevalve. I was only a kid
I love a flathead ford. I had 5 of them . Now have 3. One is on a welding machine. One is going in a 1927 C cab T. The other is in a 1929 roadster. The one in the roadster. Came out of a 52 truck. Found in a barn. The boys could not get it running. Pulled it out. I gave them 200 dollars for it and the transmission put a battery on it and my distributor out of my tool box. And a oil pressure gauge . Squirted some gas in the carb. And started it up. They were shocked.
Bottle feeding a one of these is dangerous the engine backfired, burnt all the hair off my arm and left my hand burning. Add a little gas then keep starting it until the fuel pump primes the system or just use an electric fuel pump. That would be the safest thing to do; a very dependable motor for sure.
Was doing this with wine bottle of fuel years ago. Carb spat back, bottle caught fire - Molotov cocktail, threw it out of garage onto driveway where it exploded like some riot on TV. Managed to put out the fire in garage before it and my house burned down. Lesson learned.
I don’t think pouring gas down the carburetor is a good idea.I haven’t touched a flathead in over 60 years but I’ve had a pop through the carb.on two occasions.love those flatheads.
More than likely it’s just in a poor state of tune, ie vacuum leaks, poor timing, varnish in the carb, etc. All of the flatheads I’ve worked on, I’ve been able to get them to start very easily, usually with less than a second or two of cranking.
That first engine , starting it by dumping gas out of a jar even with a lid with small holes not a good idea. If that engine backfired it would be all over for that dude and a trip to the hospital with major burns.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So better dont use any fuel now!
That has to be the most idiotic way to start a flathead I've ever seen ... a GLASS jar with a small hole drilled in the lid dribbling gas into the carb . One backfire and he's going to be picking glass fragments out of his eyes ,face , walls plus things on fire . What's wrong pre filling the carburetor bowl and operating the accelerator pump ?

I love that you remember that
Do you like these FORD FLATHEAD Engines ?
Yes
Most definitely, yes!😁
they have a sound like no other v8 engine!
@@connieschmitt714 You got it!😎
Those not old, those are dreams.
Nothing runs or sounds like a flathead Ford, sweet motor music forever. Thanks for the video..
I like fast, but MAN I'll take the sound of a flathead over speed.
Best sounding v8 ever made! Love the flathead👍
true!
Best sounding V8's ever!
Idk about that. They do sound really good tho
@@pontiacmaniac7772 it’s the most purest primordial v8 sound out there
this is why I love the flathead....
Whole lot better than my 302
As a teen I had a 1950 Ford Tudor with a flat head V8. It was a sweet ride. Wish I still had it

I remember fighting with the distributor adjustment on the 38 I owned back in the 70s.
The first engine in the 1935 ford is from my video i posted 2 years ago. Still runs good.
1:03 i think shes runnin a little rich
Wow some of those are so sweet. My Grandad had a Ford Mainline utility in Australia. I was pretty sure they were fitted with sidevalve. I was only a kid
1st. hot rod l ever rode in 32 ford roadster. My uncle Gus would race around Santa Fe, the good ol days!
That blue sedan sounded wicked!!!
I really enjoy the sound of them.
que musica....cuanta historia....una leyenda...esta iluminado por el fuego sagrado.
All of those are sounding so awesome great video thanks for sharing this with us I love the sound of sweet music
Used to put a petrol soaked rag in the throat of the carby to start a small block Chev when it had been sitting for a while ❤😊
I love the tiny carburetor haha
Bought a 53 Merk in 1965 for 75 bucks! It had a flathead V8 that just purred like a kitten!

Glad the fella with the jam jar didn't get a back-fire !!
loooooooooove that sound......
Music to my ears
Spray bottle with fuel works better, sweet motor.
Exactly. You need to atomize the fuel. The carb isn’t going to do it until it has airflow.
okay but why was the second one turned into a water hose?

It’s also pretty ineffective. A good way to flood it or hydro lock it.
You need to atomize the fuel first. It’s how every primer works.
No to mention the fuel looked like piss!

Always someone crying about this.....
@@TestECull Don't think it's someone crying, I think they're handing out advice for the people who were previously too stupid to know about the risks
Okay...the jar spilling out gas is driving me nuts.
It's alive. IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
flatheads forever
Thought our man in the first clip was being excessive with the fuel... Until I saw the second clip

Great
0:19 dumping way too much fuel down the carburator

Guys try using the CHOKE. That's how you start old cars.
A marine flathead?
If that motor backfires you will suddenly find yourself with a handful of fire
If you scared call the police
Good grief! That first startup and a glass bottle of gasoline is just waiting for a backfire and a huge problem!
Wow! An engine that runs on piss. Amazing
Imagine if you burn the carburetor, this gas container would cause an accident with this reckless
Hope it don't back fire
That first engine , starting it by dumping gas out of a jar even with a lid with small holes not a good idea. If that engine backfired it would be all over for that dude and a trip to the hospital with major burns.
Very Dangerous way to start ANY ENGINE. If that engine had backfired thru that carburetor you would have been BADLY BURNED

Famoso cabeça chata.
Ford dropped it for a good reason. But I still prefer over the over head valve stuff.
Esto es musica .
250er Schwungscheiben Goggomotoren!
Running a Ford flat head without water or coolant is not wise.
They'll run just fine that way, the few minutes that it runs won't hurt it at all.
2:07 I hear a ticking sound
Runs on moonshine....
They sound cool, but they had the absolute WORST airflow. 😂
this thing thirsty
Nothing gets this type of video a thumbs- down faster than some wanker placing a "subscribe" button over part of the text...
Some of those ran great. Others ran like a busted ass :-/
